US Politics

I recently moved to montana and when I transferred my drivers license i just checked one box for an absentee ballot so I could wrote in jill Stein for senator. It should be a federal law for something like that. The Democrats should have passed that in 2009 instead of the resolution saying they prefer jed Bartlett to george bush.

Some big Q’s here:
  • what are Flake’s (and block’s) intentions? Optics?-Justice? Appearances?-Substance
  • Does he have ambitions of his own?
  • How does he want to be remembered?
  • Has he already made up his mind?

I keep forgetting that Judge is potentially facing a criminal charge by telling the truth if it happened. That's a big motivator for lying his ass off.

Gawd, I read 'Judge Garland' as 'Judy Garland' earlier.
*blubs*

It's hard to argue if the key witnesses say the same thing to the FBI.

Do you expect the FBI report to be published?

Mark Judge has agreed to testify “confidentially”. Ramirez sought to testify and contacted the Republicans multiple times over the last week or so... Grassley said she refused to speak to them.

The FBI report will be sealed, handed to Grassley, redacted where incriminating and silently glossed over.

Flake looks really ill every time I see him, especially during this.

It's like he finally discovered a backbone and conscience but somebody has something on him (hello Moscow) that doesn't allow him to go with how he's feeling and he has to vote down party lines.

The GOP are all bought and paid for, McCain was one of the few that wasn't on board and they ostracised him until he died.

That's possible, but it would require the currently wavering senators to be ok with that. I'm not sure they will be.

I stand corrected!
I saw a clip of Joe Biden dismissing requests for an FBI investigation for a nomination, and assumed it had to to with Thomas. Got it a bit mixed up... soz.
But then again, why would Biden's (and hence the democrats'?) objection to an FBI investigation back then, be reversed now?

The clip I'm guessing you are referring to (and which I've just seen) is from the Thomas hearings but does not represent an objection to a Republican request for the opening of an investigation. What seems to have happened is this: An FBI investigation was opened (the three days thing) after submission of which the Whitehouse concluded that Anita Hill's allegation was unfounded. For this reason Republicans wanted the Whitehouse analysis to be an important part of the nomination process while Biden, presumably, wanted to lessen its impact. The video itself was shot two weeks after the FBI concluded their investigation and a half week after any knowledge of either the allegations or the investigation became public.

What Biden is doing is describing the nature of an FBI background report and stating that it does not reach conclusions (the job of congress) but merely accurately reports conversations. In such circumstances so long as there are no revelations in the transcription the report is going to be inconclusive. If there are revelations though.....

That’s assuming they’re wavering because of genuine conscience and not because of public outrage.

I'm hoping that public outrage can be whipped up over the next seven days. There has to be people out there who know things if these allegations are true.

Trump administration sees a 7-degree rise in global temperatures by 2100
Last month, deep in a 500-page environmental impact statement, the Trump administration made a startling assumption: On its current course, the planet will warm a disastrous 7 degreesby the end of this century.

A rise of 7 degrees Fahrenheit, or about 4 degrees Celsius, compared with preindustrial levels would be catastrophic, according to scientists. Many coral reefs would dissolve in increasingly acidic oceans. Parts of Manhattan and Miami would be underwater without costly coastal defenses. Extreme heat waves would routinely smother large parts of the globe.

But the administration did not offer this dire forecast, premised on the idea that the world will fail to cut its greenhouse gas emissions, as part of an argument to combat climate change. Just the opposite: The analysis assumes the planet’s fate is already sealed.

The draft statement, issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), was written to justify President Trump’s decision to freeze federal fuel efficiency standards for cars and light trucks built after 2020. While the proposal would increase greenhouse gas emissions, the impact statement says, that policy would add just a very small drop to a very big, hot bucket.

Why Silicon Valley billionaires are prepping for the apocalypse in New Zealand

fecking hell that Flake elevator video is incredible. I've watched it several times now. Those women are heroines and I hope dozens more do the same. That's how you effect change.

Seems to me you two have a hard time reading. I said when it comes to veterans (specifically)

Why do you come here and think you're up to date with what we were talking about? Carolina tried to compare Ford's PTSD with that of a marine as an excuse for her not to have come out all those years ago with her supposed rape and accuse Kavanaugh for his supposed crime back when it happened (and thus the person who caused her the PTSD). Obviously a marine can't take "combat" into court. So the comparison is incredibly stupid.

PTSD is not exclusive to combat, it is an issue that can happen to anyone who experiences a traumatic or stressful event. When PTSD symptoms might show itself, the fact that it can be years after, aligns & conjoins all PTSD sufferers. To not understand this makes your criticism of what Carolina Red rightly said serves to make your whole take on this incredibly stupid.

Reminder that he had hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt accumulated till 2016, which vanished in one stroke in 2017.

That seems to be an average of 50 dollars per person, to a judge, through web crowd funding. Even ignoring the evidence, political affiliations, rabid sentiment etc. those amounts are insane. Absolute fecking hell world.

Many of those donating also can ill afford it.

Politics is cultish.

I didn't even notice that. TBF that makes me feel better - lesser people than I expected, and perhaps a few of them are political operatives themselves.
Though the comments are great depression fuel.

I suggest you do some actual research on this

these fecking people cant even do the smallest most obvious things properly

At least it's all out in the open now though. I mean we have known it for a while, others too. Now anyone with a working brain can see what these muthafeckas are all about. Those that don't care, well I can accept that to be honest. At least they own it. Those that refuse to see it or make excuses for it, that's where the problem is.

I honestly think we need a near extinction level event to sort this shit out. Or we need to fight back and tax the feck out of the rich and even things out. Adopt some right wing tactics to achieve our ultimately left wing goals.

Good effin' grief: Part Zillion ~
Asked about Dr Blasey Ford's testimony yesterday, President Trump said he thought it was "very compelling." Said "she looks like a very fine woman," repeating the phrase, "very fine woman." Of Kavanaugh's testimony, he said "it was an incredible moment in the history of our country.”

Wow I cant believe how depraved these people are

In response to a question regarding Mrs. Ford's testimony, President Trump stated "three six nine, damn she fine, hoping she can sock it to me one more time" and then hummed quietly for several seconds. When asked for an explanation, John Kelly stated that the White House had no further comment at this time.

Another day, another reminder why I've tried to ignore US politics. Just depressing.

Same here. It's to the point where I'm intentionally trying to avoid anything political save this board. I'm also getting to a stage where I may need to weed some close friends/family members out of my life as I'm fully seeing how warped they are in their ideological support, to the point they no longer think for themselves.
