US Politics

Yours is such an insanely polarized country. It was funny untill the trade bollocks actually started affecting us.

Yeah true. The polarization has a lot to do with where people get their information from. And with the emergence of social media as a player over the past decade or so, the groupthink is only entrenching more each year.

It’s starting to get worse in Europe too honestly with the upcoming (alt) right wing in several countries and in a rection to that new far left parties and some Islamic parties.

In Holland the Islamic party DENK. Wanted to start a campaign by piblishing a fake campaigning poster for Geert Wilders far right PVV. The poster read: the cleansing will start july 16. They didnt go through with it after a test run, but now Wilders is sueing for defamation and yada yada yada.

It’s tiresome.

2nd time in a few weeks that professional race connoisseur Shaun King has been called out for his fake news antics. Will he apologize for this one ?

I don't find this sort of selective cherry picking to be particularly helpful as it doesn't offer much fidelity. It also seems to be the preferred method of random twitter trolls. Want to discredit someone ? Just cherry pick a sentence or two and pretend it applies to an entire career of work.

The 2nd one isn't "fake news antics". When the 1st case fell apart, he wrote about it.

Since your post seems to be very indirectly asking for another source which doesn't involve Shaun King (or maybe it's just concern trolling, I don't know):

yes and it was his job because he believed in the rightness of it. no quarter

This is the kind of mentality that has put the country into team red vs team blue idiocy.

The Murdoch boys maybe this country's only hope. Over time they maybe able to drag that 20% over to a more reasonable way of evaluating information. They should start with getting rid of Hannity and Carlson and replace them with Shep Smith and Charlie Sykes.

Yep. The sons should really take control of the situation. Trouble is, Fox have built their brand and revenue streaks around Trump and the Murdoch's know that would be severely disrupted if they went back to conventional GOP advocacy. Sykes would be great over at Fox though. Joe Walsh another.

If they could replace Hannity, Carlson, Fox & Friends, and Judge Jeanine they would be back in the normal column imo.

They could mix it up and introduce a far-left version of their far-right nutjob shows. This could be done by alternating left and right shows on the hour throughout they day or by creating two separate channels: Fox News Left and Fox News Right (or say Liberal and Conservative).

They could conquer the market by doing such. And making heads explode.

This is more or less an assault on the Federal government by the most wealthy Americans lead by the likes of the Koch brothers and the Mercers. They seem to be attempting to take anything of value from the federal government with this plan and put it into the hands of the 1% and consolidate their power in the American society. This is the result of letting in extremist right wingers like the tea party into government as they want to plunder the national assets under the guise of " individual freedom" and put it into the hands of billionaires to consolidate their cultural, economic and social power over the working class and middle class Americans. If they succeed with this i would call this a Coup d´etat. This would be an absolute travesty for the United States of America as a country. The liberty for the most wealthy Americans will grow immensely in all aspects but at the expense of the ordinary people as economic capital, social capital and cultural capital will decide a persons true freedom and ability to have an impact on their society.

Long shot for the Senate as Heidtkamp, McCaskill, and Bill Nelson are vulnarable to losing. On the flip side the Dems could pick up NV, AZ, and TN

The U.S. Navy is preparing plans to construct sprawling detention centers for tens of thousands of immigrants on remote bases in California, Alabama and Arizona, escalating the military’s task in implementing President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy for people caught crossing the Southern border, according to a copy of a draft memo obtained by TIME.

The internal document, drafted for the Navy Secretary’s approval, signals how the military is anticipating its role in Trump’s immigration crackdown. The planning document indicates a potential growing military responsibility in an administration caught flat-footed in having to house waves of migrants awaiting civilian criminal proceedings.

The Navy memo outlines plans to build “temporary and austere” tent cities to house 25,000 migrants at abandoned airfields just outside the Florida panhandle near Mobile, Alabama, at Navy Outlying Field Wolf in Orange Beach, Alabama, and nearby Navy Outlying Field Silverhill.

The memo also proposes a camp for as many as 47,000 people at former Naval Weapons Station Concord, near San Francisco; and another facility that could house as many as 47,000 people at Camp Pendleton, the Marines’ largest training facility located along the Southern California coast. The planning memo proposes further study of housing an undetermined number of migrants at the Marine Corps Air Station near Yuma, Arizona.

The planning document estimates that the Navy would spend about $233 million to construct and operate a facility for 25,000 people for a six-month time period. The proposal suggests these tent cities be built to last between six months and one year.

What kind of majorities would they need to dismantle the state like that? It probably would take decades to undo if it gets implemented.

The fecked up and in my opinion the funniest is that all these policies would decimate red states even further. Blue states will fight and restructure to lessen the blow but places like Kentucky and Oklahoma are fecked. If people like Cliven Bundy think its unreasonable to be charged a million dollars to graze his cattle on federal land for two decades wait until they have to deal with a faceless conglomerate.
The DNC need a tv blitz through the red states to inform people of the GOP plan to sell them to the highest bidder. Their kids getting cancer from coal ash pits leaching in to the water supply doesn't really bother them but they will freak out when they have to play tolls on secondary country roads.

An ad campaign likely wouldn't reach hard red voters since they get their news from one source and are being taught that other news sources are illegitimate. It could however reach a lot of independents who would be able to turn elections in one direction or another.
