US Open

I don't like both of them, but I dislike Nadal more so go Djoko. You don't come back from 2 match points to throw it all away.
Damn a shot from Nadal, that was beauty

Good fight from Rafa, Good match despite the errors. I think the rain's going to smack it though.

FINALLY! He really needs to improve his bloody conversion rate. 3 out of 11!

Hold please hold now!

What a break by Rafa.. great tennis from both of them

Lovely by Nadal, Nole had a chance to put him away in that point but rushed it.

Btw, this crowd is a joke, applauding Djokovic missing a first serve? Pathetic.

Said that in the last round as well.

Crowds usually support the under dog. Don't know what happens here at the USO.

Nole had a chance to break Nadal in the previous game but he got too casual and Nadal's made him pay now.

Can nadal hold on though?

Crucial hold there. Come on one break of serve away from serving for the set now.

Feel he needs to break here. He's strugglign a bit on serve.

What happens is that the match is played in New York.

In all seriousness, tennis and golf crowds in general just annoy me.

Half of me wants them to completely shut the feck up because the idiots that like to chime in when everyone else has piped down are incredibly irritating. The other half of me believes that players should have to play through loud crowds and the pressure that comes from it just like other sports.

And the chair umpires who say things like "Thank you" to try to quiet the crowd annoy me even more. Why don't they just say "QUUIIIIIIIIEEEEEEET!" or "EVERYONE SHUT THE feck UP" or something more direct?

Ah dam. The rain came at a good time for Novak there. He was struggling a bit.

If there is one thing that Nadal needs to improve in his game it's his returning of the 2nd serve. So many Novak's been hitting weak 2nd serves on break points and Nadal is just not doing enough with it. Even at 15-30 just before the rain delay.

Hope it does not last long though :nervous:

I hope this is only a passing shower.

Nole has to win this second set, and he should have done it earlier in truth.

Nadal is always in the match, but the more Djokovic pressures him the more he makes the mistakes.

Have to say I have been impressed with Djokovic's forehand.

Sounds like I'll be asleep by the time they restart, if they restart. A shame, makings of a very intense match out there.

I'm pleased with the rain break. I have to step out for a bit and this way I don't miss anything. Hopefully it'll last atleast an hour.

How can someone play tennis at this level and compete with the very best there is and have such a shite 1st serve like Novak?

Feels like he hasn't won a fast point after a good serve for ages.

t's 3:38 AM here

Yeah his forehand has been brilliant. However he loses focus very fast. Since 4-1 he's started making a lot of errors now.

Nadal really got away with it in this set but hopefully he can break Novak as soon as play resumes. 30-30. Hmmm.

Huh? I'm pretty sure he has served really well on his 1st serve..

He's not missing many 1st serves, but they are too easy to return. Almost no points that are over quickly when he's serving, he has to put in an immense effort almost every time to win a point in his own serve.

Play has been suspended due to rain. There is a thunderstorm warning in the next two hours - Letz hope rain would stop early.

Are they going to stop play for 2 hrs then? :(

I'm sorry I don't see it. He has had quite a few love service games alone..

Serve is not his problem, he hasn't really played badly at all, it's just in the last two games of this set he has been sloppy and not been putting Nadal away.

He absolutely must keep his focus/concentration.

Biggest problem for Djokovic is that his serve doesn't win him many easy points. Other than that he has a brilliant game.

I'll keep you informed of any developments but at the moment it's pelting down.

Dam. Not looking good for any play at all today. It's already 6:15 NY time. And with the thundershower warning in the next 2 hours it's likely to get further delayed till tomorrow

It's what Nadal has struggled with for the most of his career. No free points on serve.

Not for quite a long time now. Nadal doesn't have a great serve but it does enough to give him a lot of short returns and generally quite a few easy points. Djokovic's serve does feck all for him. He spends so much energy on his own service game. He'd go up a few notches if he can develop his serve.

Am I watching some other match here?

Can someone find the 1st serve percentages for the match so far? I would be surprised if Djokovic's isn't better.
