US Open Tennis

well, that was unbelievable tennis.. he totally outplayed Nadal. Nadal was lost. You know, Federer's going to have his hands full if Murray sustains this kind of form.

Gimps? You were calling him a bottler a minute ago.

I agree though. He may have a chance tomorrow if he gets enough rest.

He is a bottler, but that'll go with time. He's on a completely different level to the likes of Henman

Completely different player, aswell.

We have entered an age where serve and volley no longer stands up against baseline play. Henman actually did phenomenally well to last until 2004 at the peak of his powers, but then he started getting picked apart by baseliners with all sorts of low rankings.

I think Murray might find it difficult though cos he will be as nervous as feck.

Rams has this unique way of talking to himself in threads... I like it.

I don`t know. Scotland represents themselves when they play football, I figured it was the same with tennis.

Technically he's only representing himself in normal tournament play, and in the Olympics/Davis Cup GB competes as one.

He had the shots over Nadal and pulled them out of the bag. Nadal will bludgeon anyone who doesn't come prepared for his power and athleticism. Murray was ready and made Nadal's tennis look pedestrian at times.

He still throws away the odd stupid point and let's his emotions get the better of him. Federer and Djokovic aside his game is as good as anyones.

Edit: I fancy Federer for the final though. Nadal would have been a tougher game for him. It'll be a final for the purists.

He's got a fair record against Federer doesn't he? Reckon it'll be close.

Great game of Tennis.

Credit to Murray. When he kept going back to Deuce and then lost Nadal's service game and got broken in the very next game I thought that was it. He showed some amazing character to come back into it. Especially when you consider Federer struggles to get break points off Nadal too.

His athleticism has really come on and he's the only one who can live with Nadal from the back of the court.

I've always thought he was an arrogant twat but I'm starting to warm to him because of the mental strength he's showing.

Isn't the Us Open normally Nadals weakest even,t as he's knacked from the others he's been playing, but anyway. Well played Murray, some brilliant shots.

Next step Federer, and you know, I think he has a very good chance. I want Roger to win though

Come on Murray! Won me a cheeky 25 odd quid off a fiver. So i've stuck a tenner on him to do Feds as well ;)

He has a great chance, i don't think Federer will be overly confident because Murray has beaten him before but never played him with this sort of form.

People saying Murray will bottle it? i don't think so, he could have bottled it so many times in the game against Nadal but didn't let his head drop.

Murray will be oozing confidence as Nadal is the only player he hadn't beaten, now he has beaten him he'll feel like he can beat anyone and Federer? well he's done that before without playing anywhere near the standards he showed against Nadal.

Murray will always be hated by a large majority of the English crowd but i really don't think he cares. He plays for no one but himself and will never be another Henman. I mean the amount of "brits" supporting Rafa was pretty staggering. No doubt Nadal is one hell of a player but i personally don't enjoy watching him, his constant screaming, his boar like grunting, his very homo cut off shirt to show of his hell boy arms, the fact he relys alot on his own superior physicality and fitness to beat his opponents as opposed to Murray and Federer who use thought and skill.

Hope Murray loses and Federer beats Nadal in the final. :)

Ok I hope Murray loses....to Federer in tonight's final. I am a big Federer fan and I don't like Britain's hero. He played wonderfully the last two days and he's proved himself as a great talent however he's still woefully dull and arrogant to me. Maybe he just has it in for the press but from watching his interviews after the Nadal match you'd have thought the lad had lost.

Unbelievable. He is deservedly the British no 1. Well done.

That's one thing that I'm happy about, hopefully Murray can inspire some kids to play. Alex Bogdanovic is the highest ranked British male behind Murray at a depressingly low rank of 172. Unfortunately it's not that difficult to be British number one at the moment.

I dont really know much about Murray, does anyone know why people think he's a cnut?! Was it something he said or what?

Basically it boils down to him saying before the world cup 2006 when asked who he wanted to win he said "anyone but england" and the whole of England went mental about it. Forgetting that he's scottish obviously.

Anyway, the interviewer and Tim Henman both said it was a reaction to the two of them slagging off Scotland for not getting to the world cup. So when he asked who he wanted to win he said "anyone but england".

Maybe he ment it maybe it was a joke in line with the banter before but either way the english press lapped it up and their has been a massive anti murray negativity in the british (english) press sinse.

Well, a lot of people like him. There's probably a lot more people on here that want him to win than lose. Whether that's just because he's British and people are jumping on the bandwagon now he's successful I don't know.

That's one of the issues I think, the fact that when he's successful the media go crazy over him and hype him up to be a British hero, then you hear nothing when he loses, he's just that Scottish guy. As with most sports, people are very quick to pounce on someone for being overrated. That's not his fault though.

Plenty of scots don't like him either to be fair. On account of his arrogance and demeanor.

Personally i like him, i think he's truthful in interviews and conducts himself decently. Yes he looks bored out his mind in most interviews and press conferences but listen to the questions and tell me which tennis player isn't bored by these things...

I know some people who can't stand Murray because they think hes arrogant, I don't get it mysef. I'm English and found his comments before the World Cup funny, of course a Scot isn't going to support the English football team. Hes a thousand times more entertaining to watch than Henman (but then I was always more of a Rusedski fan).

Yeah the arrogance and his general demeanor do annoy me. I don't take to petulance well, the whole 'showing off his muscles' thing and the constant fist pumping that the players do irks a lot of people, myself included. He's young though so I'm sure that humility will come. I don't hate the guy.

I think there's often been criticism surrounding his game too, he's been accused of just pushing the ball and being too defensive, waiting on his opponent to make a mistake rather than being the aggressor himself (this wasn't the case against Nadal though, no doubt if he had he would have lost).

Yeah that is what he did at wimbledon and nadal blew him away.

Anyway i don't understand why people get offended by him fist pumping or "showing off his muscles". Everyone loves nadal and i've never seen a player do more intimidating on a tennis court than nadal. He grunts after every shot, does this weird gun jack type thing (out of tekken) where he pumps his arms in a "gun" like fashion. Add to that his rediculous swagger, need to run everywhere, time it takes him to serve, did i mention his cut offs?

Yet everyone LOVES nadal. Murray has shown his bicep as a mark to his fitness coach and his new found ability to last the distance and his improved power and serve yet people look at it as some sort of massive ego trip...

I totally agree with Ixion. I actually supported Henman, i liked him and wanted him to do well. Not so much in Wimbledon because the press and crowds were cringe worthy but as a bloke and a tennis player i liked him well enough.

In football i won't ever support england, doesn't mean i can't like english footballers, personalities, people, things! It's not anti english to not support England if you arn't English!

Nice one, I don't actually like Nadal that much either. What's worse is what he's picking out of his arse the whole time.

I like Murray. Hope the sweaty cnut wins the US Open.

Same, I really don't understand why there are a section of people who don't like Murray. The same can be said of those who don't like either Khan or Hamilton. We should be backing all our sporting British heroes.

As a player Murray has gone high up my estimation. Not the favourite for tonight but he's got my support.

Oh and the World Cup comment Murray made was clearly a joke, anyone could have seen it. And even if it wasn't who gives a feck. He plays for Britain, not England.

that's because he's wearing those tight pink shorts (which is disgusting) and his slippers always crawl between his buttchutzpahs and straight into arse.

but he's all so lovely, of course :D

I always support the Britsih heroes!

Not tonight though.

Nobody at all watch the Women's final on here, not one comment! I missed it watching other sports.

As comprehensive for Serena as the scoreline suggests?
