Anyone interested in this?

Strong Italian start, Garcia looks to be back in form, and my favourite McIlroy has had a positive first few holes.

Meanwhile Mickleson is having a nightmare out there, he's just used a driver from the rough!

I've got to say, having played Congressional personally, it's a really tough course, even when not set up for the tour players. The back nine is evil.

Mickelson's not having the best of times, although he's just played a very good 2nd shot. His fans are fecking annoying with their 'get in the hole' chant after every swing, they need to shut up.

The Italian kid (Manassaro?) looks a good prospect.

Yep, he's a fantastic young player - to play this course at his age is remarkable. Shame to see Sabattini playing well, he's well known on the tour for being an utter prick.

I've been watching this all day. Great stuff. I'd love to see McIlroy win it. I was disappointed with Donald big time, I expected him to be in the mix from the start. It was a pretty bad first round but he's still not that far behind. He'd really want a 68 or better tomorrow.

McIlroy's played some fantastic stuff, hope he is able to keep it going for 4 rounds this time.

Him and Westwood are complete bottlers on the big stage. They'll not win one major between them.

So when do you lads think Mcilroy will start fecking this up?

I'm going for final day on the 4th hole.

I meant to back him yesterday at 10/1. Forgot, and he's into 9/4 today. Still backed it mind. :D

McIlroy is brilliant... and he's a nice guy AND a Red too! He's probably ahead of Tiger when he was 22. That's now 3 first day leads at a major in the past 4 majors, that's pretty amazing. To call him a choker is rediculous. The vast majority of Golf players don't even play in majors for the 1st time until after their mid 20's and McIlroy is already there competing to win the feckers at such a young age.

Just seen his eagle when the US coverage started - great shot. Happy to see Zach Johnson near the top, albeit a ways behind Rory!

I'm not convinced he will it (yet) this year mind. It will depend on how he reacts to his first set backs. He hasn't yet dropped a shot, surely he must drop one this round sooner or later.

Have to believe what happened at Augusta will make him stronger. It's a cliche with a lot of truth in it.

McIlroy said that he was grand pretty soon after the choke & that folk were making more of a big deal about it than he was. Thought that was great to hear. He moved on very quickly because he knows that wasnt his only chance of major glory. That lads a future number 1. Wish i was at home watchin this - fecking work!

He'll be grand until he's in the situation yet again and has that niggling thought in the back of his mind. Norman was a great golfer but was one of the biggest bottlers in sport and he never shook it off. IMO it would be better for Rory to come from behind rather then lead and have all the pressure on him like it was at Augusta.

Thats a fair point alright man. If he could win this from being in the lead tho - he'd have the experience of both worlds - losing & winning. This would allow him cope with any situation thrown at him!

I can't remember seeing a player get so far ahead in a major after 1.5 rounds. Lets hope he continues and is leading by Sunday.

FYI - No one has ever been 13 under in US Open historty. Rory is at -11 with five holes to play in his second round.

-13 for Rory....first man ever to make it to that score in the US Open.

I have been watching golf for 35+ years and haven't missed a major in over 30 years. Rory's first two rounds at this years Open are by far the best two rounds I have seen any player card. The course is set up so difficult at the US Open that you have to be close to perfection to even break par.

I've read the US Open is the hardest of the 4 majors, this is stunning from Rory!

Despite that last hole it's been an incredible round, 8 shots clear! He cannot bottle it from this position, can he?

i was kicking myself when i heard this earlier. A week ago i had a feeling that either he or McDowell would do well in this, McDowell was 25/1 and McIlroy was at 40/1

thought about sticking a tenner on the kid, had a feeling he'd prove his doubters wrong in the big one

then fecking forgot. dammit!

He fecking D.Bogeyed the last hole? He can make birdies in a bunch, so can the bogeys come in a bunch. WTF Rory. If you bottle this, I doubt you will be able to recover ever.

I got Rory at 28/1 this week, so I hope he sees this out. Just as well that double was on the 18th, he'll have a day to settle himself down and come out firing again. He just needs to remember that -11 will probably win it, and he doesn't need to go chasing birdies.

I really think his troubles starts when he starts to play conservative. It is not in his nature and when he tries it, shit just starts to happen. He should continue to attack and attack till there are no more holes to play.

I would agree with that to an extent, but as we saw on the 18th, he should have played that shot with no ambition of hitting the pin at all. Just roll it low onto the front of the green, and don't have leave anything to chance. He's a fantastic talent, but he does lack a bit of canniness at important times.
