US Men's National Team Discussion

I’ll take the point. Seemed we were happy to just sit the last 20 minutes and recycle the ball to them. We had 5 at the back and still Mexico sliced us open easily a few times, our keeper stood rooted, and they were let down by their own poor control. We seem to have the athleticism down but our attacking play looks random, like Berhaltet is hoping for individual brilliance to win instead of coherent attacking tactics.

Anyway, we didn’t lose.

Thought it was one of the best performances the US has had at Azteca that i can remember in the last 20 years. This should have been a 2-0 win for the US and a surprisingly comfortable one at that while missing a key play in McKinney and Reyna just getting himself back to shape. Really shocking misses by Pulisic and Pefok. Easier to score than miss.

i get the idea but didn't like him going to a back 5 when we were quite comfortable playing the 433. Munsah was immense in the middle as we Adams. Panama drawing was nice but not the Ticos winning against Canada as that tighten the group even more. End of the day though, take care of business on Sunday and we can waive to Italy as we fly over them on our way to Qatar.

The shot by Pulisic was at least on target, directly to the keeper. It was a weak attempt to steer the ball instead putting the laces through it.. The shot by Pefok was closer to the corner flag than the goal when he was standing right in front of goal.

Gio was all of us

Oooh Mexico. So frustrating and disappointing as always.

Honestly, Mexico should have lost this game. I am tired of adding negative connotations but, it's simply not there. The 2014 WC was a disastrous qually process and yet somehow, Miguel Herrera managed to inject blood into the players and achieve one of the best gaming quality seen in a Mexico squad.

Afterwards, with Osorio and Martino it has been very dull and stagnant.

As I have said before, Mexico lacks a lot of talent, specially upfront; but not being able to achieve a game system and leadership into your players is total responsibility from the manager. Mexico should have played with all their cards over the table against the US in this match and it was nowhere near that... The mentality should be to be leaders of the friggin Concacaf qualifiers and not to end up praying for a ticket in one of the worst footballing confederations.

With the Costa Rica win vs Canada yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised Mexico grows nervous and complicates its pass.

I think Mexico should be fine, but should you somehow lose your next game you might need the US to call up Zusi for the CR game :)

Referee was fantastic and we deserved a win at Azteca? Are we sure this is CONCACAF?

- Easily the best CONCACAF refereeing performance I can remember and better than anything you will see in the Premier League. The only thing I can remember he got "wrong" was not playing advantage once for the US, but that is super minor.
- I said it last night, but I have never been less scare about a game vs. Mexico. Even without 2 of our best 4 players, and with a third limited to 20 minutes, we were the far better team. Acosta was invisible the whole night so the upgrade of McKinnie being there would have made it even more one sided.

the ref, not sure who it was, but he was brilliant. Twice booked the mexicans for diving and he got both of them spot on. Sadly, we didn't take our chances but clearly had the two best scoring chances in the match

Ref was great, has to be said. Kept the match under control and I thought fair to both sides and didn't fall for the 2 obvious Mexico penalty dives in the 2nd half (Raul and Vega).

Hard to believe, but US should have won that. Had 3 great chances and missed them all.

Can't be too hard on them at the end parking the bus, scrambling for the point. Well done. 4 straight undefeated against Mexico, I think that's a record.

What's up with the PA announcer organizing chants for the crowd? Other than the cringe factor, I would have assumed it's against the rules.

That's b/c they can't yell Puto any longer on goal kicks which has been going on for as long as i can remember

the miss from pefok was one of the worst misses i have ever witnessed in my life. At first i thought maybe the ball surprised him and he wasnt ready for it. Nope he clearly was ready for it and saw it from Reyna. As others said he not only didnt even put it on target, it went wide of reyna-WHO WAS THE ONE WHO PASSED IT PERFECTLY TO HIM. Literally beyond sunday league level.

For those who didn't see it, or those like me who can't stop watching it, here you go:

May be the right thread to note that there's no MLS thread up yet (was watching Orlando @ Portland earlier)...

A win is a must. A loss means a win is needed in Costa Rica in the last (next) game to even have a shot.

A loss here and a draw at Costa Rica still has the US above on GD I think...

I think they go 4th which means a playoff

That was probably the easiest VAR ever. Solid PK by Pulisic.

Steffen looked rung.
