US Men's National Team Discussion

Just one of many! But the British media are having people believe he's a £70m to £80m player! I really hope Chelsea sign him so he's never linked with us again. However, since Lampard left, I think the interest left with him.

On Adams; I've seen some bits of him and he looks absolutely brilliant. He really had a breakout season for Leipzig last year and I fancy him to improve further this season. He likely won't come cheap at this stage.
I've not seen much of him but I've liked what I've seen. And I've read some great reviews of him - admittedly, mostly from @WI_Red on here. :)

I know this isn't the thread for it - but I see he's another that went between the Red Bull clubs - this time New York to Leipzig.

That really doesn't sit well with me. There's inconsistent rules about people not having ownership with two teams, and there's FFP rules that can be worked around when owners are trading with themselves between clubs. It really feels like money laundering when you've got the Red Bull clubs, City Group clubs, the Watford / Udinese / Granada owners, all doing deals with their own clubs and loaning a bunch of players to their weaker clubs, etc.

Anyway, back on topic, I agree Adams looks a very good DM and I'd be pleased to see him join United (not that I see any links to us).

Look...the kid is 22 yrs old and plays for Leipzig who are one of the top clubs in Germany. He's played consistently for them in both the league and champions league at a really young age. He has all the earmarks of a kid that could be very very good down the line for club and country. He's technically good, he's very athletic, he's smart and he's versatile which makes him a really valuable asset for Leipzig.

US has an incredibly strong group of young players....hoppe, de la fuente, pepi, sargent, dike, pulisic, weah, aaronson, reyna, adams, mckennie, robinson*2, dest, turner(gk). The future potential is there as most of these guys are under 23-24 yrs of age so it's about developing them and finding 8-10 more guys that can do the job especially at the CB position and some CM depth. It's also vital to possibly find a more experienced coach that can take this young group to the next level.

He was absolutely sensational last night. He was everywhere even though our dumbass coach put him at RB. If he wasn't American I am 100% convinced the Caf would have a thread on him in the Transfer forum. I know I am a broken record on this but he is exactly what United need in the midfield. He does so much work in front of the defense to free up the (unfortunate for the USA nonexistent) midfield and he is a decent to good dribbler and improving passer as well. He likely will not be cheap and I think that number is going to go up this year. Finally, he is a natural leader on the pitch regardless of who is wearing the armband and directs traffic for both club and country. My dream signing.

Tbh, I hadn't heard much about him and only took an interest after quite a-few on here started really hyping him up. I watched a-bit of him last season and done some research, and the guy looks pure class. He really does look like someone that would fit us like a glove. I suppose Bayern is a likely destination if he keeps impressing.

Aye, I'm very similar to you. I only took an interst after reading about him on here. I haven't watched anywhere near enough of him admittedly, but from what I've seen, he looks a proper baller.

Yeah, what you mentioned in the second paragraph is most definitely murky stuff that seems a-bit of a grey area. The Pozzo ownership of Udinese, Granada and Watford looks very suss.

No I haven't seen any links yet. But possibly he'll start getting linked to big clubs if he has another good season.

Fair point :wenger:

Regarding his move I don’t think his transfer was too outrageous. He went, as a relatively unknown 18yo American in the MLS, for a pretty good fee of $3 million.

I need someone to explain the current implosion of the US Soccer federation? WTF is going on?

Are you referring to what’s going on with the NWSL or have I missed something big going on?

You lot better be ghoul during spooky season or Zombie Donovan will be coming for you.

Sorry about not getting back to this sooner. I wanted a more credible source than what I was reading. It is not just the fact that the sexual abuse allegations exist, it is that they were ignored by US Soccer. Yates has been named to investigate the allegations. The coach has what is coming to him, but I think there are going to be several heads to roll.

This seems to be an issue with sporting organizations in general (US Gymnastics, Ohio State, Penn St., NFL, etc.) when it comes to sexual assault.

I hope heads roll as US Soccer needs a complete cleaning. I have no doubt that they felt invincible due to never having been held accountable for anything. The cabal of US Soccer, Soccer United Marketing and MLS (which owns SUM) is a massive conflict of interest and has, in my opinion, had a dramatic negative effect on the development of the game in the US. I am encouraged that US Soccer is ending its contract with SUM, but we will see. Beyond that the federation is a good old boys club that facilitated the nepotistic hiring of Berhalter and for decades spurned any interest in fostering a relationship with the Mexican American community in the US. As long as that group of guys is doing the hiring I think we need to resign ourselves to a future of Berhalter and Berhalter clones.

Just a few years ago this would be causing a meltdown in USMNT land (remember Jonathan Gonzalez anyone). Now? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He would be, maybe, 3rd or 4th choice (Dest, Cannon, Yedlin???) and there are two younger guys playing in better leagues (Scally starts for Borussia Mönchengladbach and Reynolds who is unfortunately being Jose'd at Roma). How times have changed.

Times have definitely changed when a player has no path to starting on the US squad so opts for Mexico. Changed for both countries.

Is Jamaica as bad as their current record in qualifiers would suggest?

Talent wise I don't think so, but they tried to integrate a bunch of veteran foreign born players and I don't think it is working quite yet.
- Bobby Decordova-Reid (Fulham)
- Andre Gray (QPR)
- Jamal Lowe (Bournemouth)
- Liam Moore (Reading)
- Ethan Pinock (Brentford)
- Michail Antonio (West Ham)

They all switched from England to Jamaica this year I think and the results since then have not been great.

Phenomenal article that delves into the challenges and life of a Mexico/US dual national.

Scally is starting for Gladbach of course due to Lainer's serious injury, but he's been doing well. Sergino Who?

I work with a lot of mexican american kids in youth soccer and it's a tough decision for them if they were offered the opportunity. Most of the kids feel American as that is who they play soccer with, go to school with and soccer wise however the pressure or feeling of mexican pride typically comes from their parents.

Have a kid i worked with during his entire youth until he was scouted and moved to the FC Dallas academy. He repped the US at the youth level but felt like if he got pulled into the full squad he would have to consider Mexico simply for the sake of his career and playing professionally in Mexico. Unfortunately for him that choice never came up and he now is playing D1 soccer in college in the ACC.

He's been playing on the left for BM so he fits in perfect with Dest should that ever be an issue.

Something may be of interest to you is that Brooks withdrew (injury??) so Richards should get at least 2 starts unless Berhalter Berhalters him. Very interested in the Robinson/Richards pairing as they should complement eachother perfectly.

Also, Hoppe got called in and should get some decent playing time with Reyna and Pulsic out injured.

Not sure about the other games, but he played right wingback against BVB in Lainer's absence.

The US games are sadly always at a bad time to watch..

It also hurts that the US Federation has historically ignored that entire pool of players. I have no doubt that feeling, rightfully, unwanted is also a huge negative especially when you see the effort made to pull in European born players.

The few games earlier in the season that I caught I think he was on the left. It looks like he has been mostly on the right the last few games, which is his natural position. Another MLS developed played moving to Germany on the cheap. Eventually other European leagues are going to figure this out, right?

Heard this podcast a few weeks ago and thought it might be of interest to you. It is an interview with an expert on the FC Dallas Academy and they discuss Che as well as a few other younger prospects, some who have been over to your club the last few summers.

oh 1000%...the idea that only kids who play in the DA's are good enough to make a US Roster is baffling.

They spent money on US ID Training Centers but never really value those assessments ESPECIALLY on the guys side of it...girls is vastly different as they actually use those to help promote girls from club to country

I'll tell you this as well....the US Football generation will eventually go bottoms up if US Soccer and the NCAA doesn't put a cap on the number of foreign players that are allowed to play D1 soccer in the US and even D2 to an extent. Not every kid has the opportunity to play for a DA due to where they live so they go the college route but that is severely being damaged by D1 programs who have half of their rosters to foreign born players.

We should be using college and MLS to supplement the US National Team with the kids who are talented enough to play in europe at a younger age. Unfortunately that path for those talented kids has been blocked or derailed for their future.

Yes you're right about the left side.

Thanks for the link, interesting..

Not bad. Would have preferred Richards over Zimmerman and Weah over Paulie Nips. At least Musah will be cap tied now.

:lol::lol:
Stonewall red card in the first 30 seconds, but this is CONCACAF, so yellow.

Can’t remember the last time we dominated the midfield like this. MMA is the present and future

This ref… two stonewall reds overlooked and anytime a Jamaican players falls over it’s a foul.

Pepi played like an 18 year old. Aside from two bad ref calls, not much going on.
