Unpopular (AKA fickle) opinion time on AWB.....

I have a question. AWB was the wing back, should a wingback be so INSIDE the box while defending? I recall similar mistake many times, was it against Seville as well?

i.e. when we play 523, with 3 CB already inside the box, should either of the wing back be so inside? or should he be near the edge of the box sorting out problems?

The problem is both Shaw and Wan Bisaka are constantly trying to cover Maguire and Lindelof, I don't think they trust this centre back pairing

We need a new RB. This guy is a complete liability in games we're supposed to dominate (which on paper are most games).

He’s really bad at football. Excellent tackler. One of the best I’ve ever seen. His technical ability on the ball is miles off the required level though.

a lesson in how not to pass a football that half... easily half a dozen misplaced 10 yard passes.... Sunday League level

Aye, been saying this since he joined. His overall footballing ability is generally very poor.

His slide tackles are mostly because his positioning is generally awful.

Agreed, I actually thought he had been getting better.
I don’t mind too much or have accepted he is never going to be an attacking full back, but several times misplacing a 10 yard pass is absolutely inexcusable for a team with title ambitions

I am not even that excited about the tackling part anymore. He goes to ground way too easily. Sure, he is good at it, but it creates high risk situations when there is no need of doing so. With the reward often being that the ball goes out for a throw-in. It's not like he usually makes last-ditch tackles that prevent goals (Bailly does that at a higher rate imo). Also leads to quite a few cards.

His attacking game seems to be regressing, rather than getting better. It’s a major hindrance on our attacking play as our attacks are so predictably skewed towards the left.

I think the biggest difference between Shaw and Wan Bissaka is that AWB needs his first touch to get the ball in control. This holds him back quite a bit, as he can't just naturally take the ball in his stride.

Passing, crossing and everything else becomes a lot easier for Shaw because his first touch is impeccable.

Honestly would much rather Shaw or Telles try their luck at RB. Both are significantly better players

It’s not even attacking play. It’s just basic passing.

I think he's got his part to play in certain games but christ, a right hand side of him and James in games like this is utterly useless.

In games like this where the away team are sitting deep he is a liability, someone's Dalot would be ideal instead of him.

He even makes Fred look good on the ball

Shaw is just a far superior footballer. He has his fundamentals nailed down & looks comfortable on the ball. Wan-Bissaka has neither of those things.

He isn't even that good a defender. Poor awareness and regularly out of position. Lindelof is babysitting him most of the game.
Thoroughly sick of comments like this. He's been excellent for us lately. Granted, this is not his type of game.

He’s been straight up called out by opposition managers for being shit on the ball. It says it all. Can try dress it up all you like but he’s incapable of the basics of circulating possession.

Not just the passing but also the quickness in the thinking. Takes an absolute age at times to decide.

His first touch is so poor. Even when he's not under any pressure it's so sloppy. It's like he's got clown shoes on.

He should not be our starting RB, he would be an acceptable backup.

Again, questions need to be answered.
These flaws were very apparent before we signed him yet we blew £50m on him.

The difference in quality between him and Shaw is absolutely staggering. Incredible really. Does anyone ever see AWB reaching anywhere near the level Shaw is playing at right now? Cause that's what we need to compete in the league and the Champions League.

Again at the end he got exposed but Lindelof bailed him out. Then there was another moment where he could have taken it in the corner, but decides to give a pass to Bruno through the middle.

I just want to say that I have nothing against Wan-Bissaka and he is good at a few things. However...

He should never have been bought by Manchester United. He shouldn't play for Manchester United. We need passers, ballers, we can't have even one out of ten outfield players that can't pass the ball. I'm sorry to say that splashing £50m on him is a massive mistake. The scouts need to look themselves in the mirror here.

He's so bad on the ball that it's comical. He can't play in tight spaces and so often seems to be struggling to control a football when venturing forward. The crazy thing is that in his youth career he was a winger!
We - at the very least - need a RB to compete with him. He can't be starting every single game for us, especially matches like yesterday when we're trying to break teams down. Having a right side of AWB, McTominay (a little harsh from me) and Dan James was hilarious - because that side is technically deficient

A player that keeps world class players in his pocket. Struggles a bit under worse players. Looking forward for his time here whilst people moan about him against the low block teams but say nothing against the teams that attack us.

Here is an Idea might not be popular but how about we build a team which actually goes toe to toe with other big teams and rather than always making plans how to negate them by playing limited players ,either AWB can improve to be part of that team or we simply replace him with player who is more suited to play front foot football.

I really hope Laird is able to continue his development at MK Dons and comes back into the squad this summer to challenge AWB for that right-back spot. For a team that's primary ambition is to attack and control games, AWB just doesn't have the technique or the mindset to make a big enough difference offensively.
