It'll not happen for anyone currently alive that's for sure, it's hard to explain but American's view the world differently to everyone else, as a Brit married to an American and lived in the US for more than a decade I still don't understand why things are the way they are.

It's the 'land of the free' - free to be expoited, and they seem to happily go along with it, in the UK , mandated by law, you are entitled to 28 days paid leave per year, in the US you are legally entitled to zero days paid leave, same with parental leave, a woman giving birth is legally entitled to no days off, of course most people do get paid time off, but often it's not much, in a lot of cases you'll need to work 3 or 4 years before getting 10 days and if you're sick that'll come out of those days

You know an easy way to tell how politicians are all in the pockets of oligarchs and democracy is dead?

The absence of any kinda of UBI talk.

Wealth is already mostly created by machines and software, so we have no logical excuse to postpone UBI any longer.

Everyday that passes and oligarchs are allowed to amass all that wealth/power for themselves, is one day closer to dystopia land.

Is there any hope for the future? How scared are you?

I don't think there's any hope until a sizeable portion of the working class who either vote right wing, or have some right wing sympathises, stop blaming the rising cost of living in comparison to wages on government overspending (or other such talking points), and realise that the wealthiest people are getting increasingly wealthier, that trickle down economics is a myth, that it is not good for a small number of people to horde vast amounts of a finite resource, and that a small amount of people directly and indirectly exploit the vast majority of the population for their own financial benefit.

This is a far distant prospect IMO, because the left are generally speaking fairly shit at getting this message across, often even reluctant to even be accused of doing so, poorly organised, and broadly losing the battle for public backing due on "culture war" issues, which serves as a pipeline to batshit libertarian style economic ideology (greed is good, billionaires are good for the economy, etc).

Basically, the left needs to get its fecking shit together. Which I don't see happening until the right self-implodes (after causing incredible damage). Basically, it's going to get a whole lot shitter for a while yet, and if we're lucky we might get a good bounce upwards when we hit rock bottom. But the left will need to be able to sort out its messaging in order to capitalise on that opportunity.
