Stop paying attention to this a while ago
Let me make this clear first, our squad and first team are in no way as bad as some on here make out. We have probably the best squad in the league. But i think we need to freshen up the first team a bit. We need to buy one, maybe two established players, and not bebes and obertans. Any one else reckon we're going to heavily invest this summer? Or am i talking out of my arse and we should stick to our policy of buying young players and developing them?

If we signed 6 quality players people would moan that we should have gotten 7 or 8.

We'll spend on a keeper and central midfielder. Those two positions have to be filled, no doubt about that. Hopefully we'll get a couple of midfielders, one to replace Hargreaves and another for Scholes.

The Arsenal game scares the shit out of me. Don't want to lose against these bunch of hypocrites but I'm not too confident :(

If we don't see some midfield investment then we're taking a massive gamble. There were periods they didn't even touch the ball and yet our midfield still lacked penetration and it severely lacks any sort of goal threat - if we have money - then we need a genuine attacking midfielder.

That hasn't really worked for Arsenal, and I'd say we're only adopting this lately because we can't really compete with the likes of Chelsea and Shitty in spending.

Regardless we have to spend this summer muppet or no muppet. We have our best keeper in ages retiring, arguably our best midfielder, and an ever-ageing Ryan Giggs. The defence is fine, our attack is fine, but feck me we aren't going to get far next season with Carrick, Fletcher and Gibson spearheading our midfield.

Is Schweinsteiger tied up at Bayern? Him and Pastore would be ideal.

I expect about 5 new faces in the Summer if i'm being honest. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few surprise (sic) players leave too.

I fully expect the "no value" speech again this summer. Scholes will re-sign for another year and we won't sign anyone for the first team except maybe a goalkeeper.

Well that's not strange is it? Wanting whole midfields of sides who aren't as good as United.

Oh you guys were being serious?

Although our success isnt built on the strength of our midfield. For both those sides, it is.

I'm being serious, Brazil side of 1970 please.

We'll end up getting Henderson and maybe a keeper.

Carrick, Fletcher, and Anderson have all signed new contracts. I doubt that Gibson gets a new one. Scholes might sign on.

The biggest issue is we need to decide how we're going to play before we start buying players. We try 433 but don't really have the right parts to do it. Rooney is useless out on the left and our midfield doesn't create enough when in that formation. Finding a midfielder who can play in a 442 and offer legitimate attacking threat and doesn't cost £50m is nearly impossible.

Modric.

We will sign a goalkeeper and maybe one other player, probably a winger. I don't expect a midfielder after we've extended deals of three of them and are likely to tie another one in not too distant future.

I suspect we have not very much money which is why we'll probably buy a goalkeeper and one midfielder this summer - one who probably isn't in the top bracket (at least yet) - and line up with Carrick, Anderson, Scholes, Fletcher, Gibson, Giggs (and possibly Cleverly, depending on his position) and one other as our midfield options.

I'd be lying if I said I'd be absolutely confident that midfield will more than hold its own against the best the PL and CL has to offer.

I hope the Glazers weren't lying when they told Rooney we'll spend this summer. Our central midfield is shocking for a team that has title aspirations every season.

I second that but I think that if we can get Neuer or other top class goalkeeper at £15m, we won't be buying a recognized midfielder at all. And when you look at what we've spent on midfielders you can hardly say it's weak because we don't have money, our current set cost us £50m in total and there's not a single one who is top quality there. I think Ferguson has an eye for players in all positions but midfield, he has succeeded so many times with wingers, he has had almost every single defensive signing spot on and he has discovered a host of top class forwards but in midfield there just hasn't been enough class except for when we had Keane and Scholes there.

No wonder the Glazers 'don't interfere' with Sir Alex's management. Just like Roman 'No Interviews' Abramovich, they like to keep as low a profile as possible; avoids awkward questions about their financial dealings that way...

Sir Alex Ferguson is poised for an unprecedented £100million-plus summer transfer buying campaign

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Sir Alex Ferguson is poised for an unprecedented £100million-plus summer transfer buying campaign.

The 69-year-old is determined to leave the club in robust health once he decides to retire with a young talented squad capable of winning more trophies.

Despite going to Liverpool today with a team that is the bookies' favourite to win him a record breaking 19th title, Sir Alex know that surgery is needed in the summer if United are to maintain their high standards of the past decades.

It’s why he is ready to use the chequebook once the next transfer window opens.

United lead the chase for Tottenham ace Gareth Bale and will open up with a £30m offer. Aston Villa’s Ashley Young is bound for Old Trafford for £20m, after Ferguson narrowly missed out on snapping him up in January.

Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson is another likely capture for £15m, though Michael Carrick could be included in the deal despite having recently signed a new contract. United are in for Everton’s emerging star Jack Rodwell too.

The parlous state of the Goodison finances means the board would be hard-pressed to reject a £20m offer for Rodwell, especially with Arsenal also expressing an interest.

Ferguson has also told Southampton that he will beat any offer or personal terms for exciting teenage winger Alex Chamberlain, meaning the Saints flyer is likely to land at United for around £10m.

And with United also intent on spending at least £10m on a top-line keeper at the end of the season to replace the retiring Edwin van der Sar, Ferguson is committed to a summer outlay of more than £100m.

So we're going to buy 2 left wingers, two young midfielders, a keeper, and AOC who's an AM/winger... That makes sense.

thats bollox if it happens

the team clearly needs to have strength added centrally

Surely SAF can see this. Scholes is going to retire and hargreaves is gone so there has to be room for a quality man to come in and take the lead role in the centre of the park.

I would be suprised if we sign Henderson, Rodwell & Chamberlain. We have enough of our own youngsters breaking through (Cleverley, Wellbeck & others) and we don't need more youngsters.

I think we need 2 midfielders (one creative, one genuine ball winner) who are 23-27yo and a winger who can play on the left. GK obviously needs to be addressed.

Just been on sky at half time of the athletico Bilbao match that we are preparing a 40 million euro bid for fernando someone or other ( didn't catch the last name )

Llorente? this was mentioned the other day, doubt it's true.

Another striker? That wouldnt make too much sense imo.
I'd take Llorente nevertheless.
