United's last minute bid for Sergio Canales?

Would be nice, but don't think it has a snowballs chance in hell of happening.

But Madrid would be moving on him before tomorrow because they can't do a pre-contract, no? So something's likely to happen tomorrow one way or another you'd imagine.

If the deal, for either United or Real is inclusive of Canales staying at Santander for the rest of this season at least, then there is no rush to get the deal done tomorrow, an agreement could be made at any point.

What he said.. I doubt he will leave Racing for a while (2 seasons atleast) so I think he should take Cryuff's advise and sign a long term deal with Racing..

wow, sorry, i got all football rumours.com there for a second.

Well stay away from TalkSport then, as there's been many texts claiming Rodwell has been seen around Carrington and various places like that

The only places to pick up on this have been Goal.com and tribalfootball.

So yeah its a dead cert to happen.

It would be nice to get him
1. Because real want him.
2. He looks talented.
3. He is spanish.
4. Real want him.

So many good reasons to screw over Real, especially if he is the next messi

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini are set to battle it out for the signing of Racing Santander starlet Sergio Canales. The 18-year-old starlet has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal in addition to Barcelona, yet recent speculation intimated the player was on the verge of moving to the Bernabeu.

SKY BET have ruled out a move to Arsenal, Chelsea and the chasing pack pitting Manchester United and Real Madrid against each other in pole position to sign the talented 18-year-old. Ferguson reportedly met with the highly rated midfielder’s father during the January transfer window, and showed the player around the Carrington training complex in a bid to lure him to Old Trafford.

Ferguson is reportedly desperate to land the youngster and steal him from the grip of Real Madrid, continuing on from the signing of Fulham’s Chris Smalling, who will join Manchester United from the West London outfit in the summer for a fee in the region of £10 million. Sir Alex Ferguson won the race to sign the centre half under the noses of Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, who was also reportedly close to securing a deal for the talented centre back.
Ferguson and Pellegrini will lock horns for the talented youngster in the coming days, with the youngster free to sign for either club as he is a free agent in the summer.

United and Madrid go head to head for wonder kid 09 February 2010 - 13:49 | Sport.co.uk

no quotes or anything, but is the bolded part true? First I've heard of it.

Watched him for the first time on Sunday against Athletico, and I must say I was impressed. His touch and his agility on the ball is what impressed me most, he seemed to have that "United player" look about him, he vision of passing as well caught the eye, but as it was the first game I have seen him play, It wont be right to go overboard.

To be honest, it will be surprising if we managed to snatch him from under the noses of Madrid.

Well atleast he didn't send Neville to show him around. We may have a slim chance now.

It's very easy to say, of course, and it all depends on whether he feels that he would benefit from moving abroad at so young an age, but both the player and his father must be wondering whether he has much of a chance of establishing himself at Real Madrid, given their propensity to favor expensive signings, particularly in attack.

To be fair, it can go one of two ways at both clubs, so it wouldn't be right to suggest that he has no chance of establishing himself at Real Madrid, but there are risks attached to it, including the constant changes in manager, presidents, philosophies, playing staff, etc, particularly when compared to the relative stability (on the playing side) at United.

Having said all of that, I would be fairly shocked if he chose to sign for us, because almost all very good/special players have the confidence (sometimes verging on arrogance) which convinces them that they can make it at any club. And that's a good thing.

What I don't understand is why he would want to move on anyway? We all know that he will remain at Racing for a few years anyway.. so why not just sign a good contract put a low buy-out clause (incase he is scared that Racing will ask for too much when the time for a transfer comes around) and leave when the time is right..

You know what Real Madrid are like, people who played for the club and connected with the club are always going about taking your chance to join Madrid because you may only get one chance. This may be his only chance to sign for them. Then he can develop out on loan and come back to be part of their Spanish contingent.

Or he may be like their last "wonderkid" Granero. They sold him with a clause in his contract to buy him back cheap if they wanted him back. They took up that offer and now he's back with them and doing quite well. Same with Alvaro Negredo, sold him with a cheap buyback clause. If they want him they can have him back too. They are doing their best to make sure this new Real Madrid does have Spanish players in the squad, without having to pay Galactico fees to sign the players. Maybe in a couple of years players like Negredo and Canales will be good enough first choices and/or fringe players and then they'd bring them back.

One second they have instilled that clause on Negredo's contract again? I know they had it on his previous contract but they have another one with Sevilla too?

I thought so too.

Saw a headline in a Norwegian newspaper some days ago that claimed that anyway.

Yeah its in his Sevilla contract. Jiminez was talking about, I read some quotes from him. So its legit and definate.

With his impressive early season form, los Merengues are believed to be very interested in taking him back to Madrid. While it would be against Sevilla coach Manolo Jimenez's wishes, he knows there is little he can do due to a buy-back clause in Negredo's contract.

"We have to live with that," he is quoted as saying by El Correo Digital.

"If Real Madrid take Negredo, because they have a clause so that they can buy him, the best thing would be that they have a striker who could come to us.

"The best thing would be if they wanted to exchange [Karim] Benzema for Negredo," he concluded ironically
.

There we go.

I'm going to the Nou Camp next week to see the game against Racing. I'll keep an eye for you and let you know whether it's worth getting the cocks out or not.

Can assure you it is, but only if you support Madrid.

Ambitious fecker! He wants Benzema if Real decide to re-purchase Negredo..

Honestly though what are the chances of Real wanting Negredo back? Has he been doing well for Sevilla? Has he been 1st choice or has it still been Kanoute and Fabiano? Also I am not too sure Sevilla would be willing to let go both of Fabiano and Negredo and keep a now very old Kanoute.. Although I am sure they wont have an option of whether they can keep Negredo or not..

Tell me Ekeke what exactly is the minimum Spanish player limit and how are Real Madrid stocked in that dept?

I dont actually know. All I know is he squad limit is 25 players.

As for Negredo, Sevilla have used their 3 forwards in a rotation system. Negredo's season started off well, then Kanoute and Fabiano were having a better time of things and him not so much, and then in the past fgew weeks he really came into form, scored 2 goals against Valencia, then scored an own goal and got sent off in recent games too. So a real mixed bag but overall he's a good player and been in good form at times this season.

Its not out of the question that Madrid might want him next season, or perhaps even the one after allowing him to develop more. But he has a lot of good qualities that, if refined, could make him one of the best few strikers in la liga. Like Eto'o and Villa became. He's a different type of striker obviously but he's got skill/technique, a really dangerous left foot and is really good in the air too. So he could make it to the levels they have, in the future.

If he wasnt Spanish and Madrid didnt have the clause in his contract, I'd suggest he'd be a pretty good partner for Rooney.

Thanks for that.. There is no rule in specific for the Spanish league except the Minimum of 4 homegrown players in a 25 man squad..

The comp that they have to manage to get enough Spanish players for is the CL.. I asked a friend of mine who is a Real Madrid supporter and he said they have enough at present to replace an outgoing 2 players.. But they are also youngster who are at the club and hardly likely to feature in the 1st team squads..

He also told me apparently Perez is getting sick and tired of Benzema.. Although he said he doubts Real will get Negredo back again.. Unless he improves drastically in the next few years..

Real Madrid have confirmed highly-rated teenager Sergio Canales will join the club from Racing Santander at the end of the season.

Canales has shot to prominence in recent weeks and he has been linked with a string of major clubs across the continent.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City were all rumoured to be keen to bring the 18-year-old to the Premier League, while European champions Barcelona were also credited with an interest.

However, Canales' father revealed last month that the midfielder wanted to join Real as he believed his career would be best served by a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real have now announced that the talented youngster will join Manuel Pellegrini's star-studded squad on a six-year contract in the summer.

A club statement read: "Real Madrid C.F. and Racing de Santander have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Sergio Canales Madrazo.

"The contract, which will link the player to Real Madrid CF over the next six seasons, will enter into force from 1 July 2010."

No fee was announced by either club.

Done deal he joins them in the summer..

Its amazing how dumb young footballers are...They are shite at nurturing young talent and they still go there.

Hmmm.... Nothing like a bit of good fatherly advice eh!

Or maybe dad just wants to tell his mates his son plays for Real Madrid.

Its the glamour of the brand name more than anything, its a shame really because theres so many other clubs a player like this would develop his talents better at under a far more structured and stable enviroment, Madrid just look to buy the next biggest star meaning unless you hit the ground running your immediatly drafted a flop and probably on the next batch to be shipped out, you dont have any bedding in time at that club whatsoever which is why so many young talents fail, Madrids been a bit of a graveyard for young emerging talent for years now, not to mention they change managers at the drop of a hat, whos to say these young players will even feature under a new managers ideas?

It probably is the worst club a young talent like this could join really, its not a club that has any patience whatsoever and everyone knows young players especially need time as they will inevitably be inconsistent.

Benzema is another classic example of a young player finding out the reality at Madrid is far inferior to the outside image of it this season alone, But agents will always back such a deal as their always going to get more money out of their client moving to a club like that than anywhere else and the youngsters will always jump at the chance of playing for such a big name club.

Sooner or later youd like to think they would learn.

You lot just have to face it. Madrid are a more glamourous draw than us. If it's between us and Madrid, the majority of the time they will always pick Madrid. It also doesn't bother me in the slightest. Time everyone got used to it the better. We are not able to compete for the majority of signings with the European clubs. We never have and never will. We want players who will pick us above everyone else. Not players who are being romanced by all and sundry.

I can understand it though as he is Spanish and its probably his dream but he is still dumb to go there this early in his career.

Kudos to Fabregas and Pique though, Worked out well for them, just shows they are not all dumb.
