Manchester United In Last-Minute Bid To Snare Racing Sensation Sergio Canales - Report

Premier League giants Manchester United are set for a late transfer window swoop to secure the services of Racing Santander teenager Sergio Canales, according to reports from England.

The Sunday People reports that Sir Alex Ferguson is aware that Real Madrid are thought to be close to a deal for the prodigious youngster, and is looking to hijack any proposed deal Los Blancos have in place.

Canales has been one of the stars of the La Liga season, and came to prominence after two stunning goals helped Racing to a 2-1 win away to Sevilla last month.

He is out of contract at the end of the season, and it is thought that any deal would involve Canales being loaned back to Racing for a season in order to gather first-team experience.

Ferguson is allegedly staging a meeting with Canales and his father Angel in order to discuss the possibility of a move to England. It is also thought that the 18-year old would be open to a move to the Red Devils.

What position does he play?

ive seen some reports call him a striker... and others a midfielder...

so as a safe guess attacking midfielder / withdrawn striker...

scored some nice goals... has a chance of making the spain squad... but i though he has signed for madrid?

perhaps if he is out of contract we could afford him?

Doesn't look like a SAF signing. Does look promising tho.

well as he is out of contract in the summer i imagine it would be a pre contract peeople were trying to sign with him for next year...

still i imagine its all a tactic to get more money out of madrid

I do not believe he'll be out of contract in the summer.

It's not happening anyway,

Probably just his agent drumming up a bigger fee or wages. Or SAF doing the same.

We've talented kids coming through. It's true they lack experience but you would think England would be tough for a young spanish lad - fabregas aside - because of the speed, the strength of the league and the expectations on every united player

With Petrucci, Morrison etc - I think we'll just have to see what happens. We've seen with Evans, if your good enough your old enough and he's saved the club a lot of money and time

That said, if the kids out of contract then I suppose you have to be interested. Spains produced a lot of talent over the last 10 years and it shows no sign of waivering.

I've heard good things about him, seen a few of the goals he's scored recently, but does he really have Iniesta potential?

Do Madrid have a pre-contract agreement with every player in Europe or something? Seems not a half-decent player goes by without them claiming it's a done deal.

They have a big bag of cash, source of cash unclear.

That's not new is it?

If it was going to happen, Fergie'd be in spain now.

No because his contracts running out. There's no immediate rush, if it's true. Not if the player/father are willing to talk and I imagine they would if we're interested

But Madrid would be moving on him before tomorrow because they can't do a pre-contract, no? So something's likely to happen tomorrow one way or another you'd imagine.

i thought a read a week or so back that he had signed a new contract, with a low buy-out clause.

If the deal, for either United or Real is inclusive of Canales staying at Santander for the rest of this season at least, then there is no rush to get the deal done tomorrow, an agreement could be made at any point.

I've no idea, I wasn't saying he was going to be as good as Iniesta, just that his awareness of space to attack, his deceptive speed and the variety to his game is all very reminiscent of Iniesta.

I've no idea whether they has the quality or depth to his play to be as good.
