United to introduce a wage structure capped at 200k per week

Surely just some bollocks that means people will be there paid the rest of their wages in some sort of dodgy way. City have been good at having phony wages for years.

There is nothing “dodgy” or “phoney” about structuring remuneration in such a way that salary is only one component. Salary makes up about 15% of what my company pays me, for instance.

One thing I don't understand though, won't new owners instill their own salary range?

I doubt the Glazers are taking much if any salary, their remuneration will be dividends almost exclusively.

I think the main point is that the majority of our players are getting above market value wages and that’s what the club needs to fix.

They are getting above market value wages based on two things, poor scouting and poor development. Neither of these things are fixed by this type of measure, these measures only do one thing two things put you in a situation where you have lesser player or turn into a liar when you have to pay market prices.

Also it doesn't fix any jealousy issue, if one CB earn 200k and an other earns 125k, the latter will be envious of the former especially since he believes that he is as good or better. Which brings us to an other issue, management, people being happy or unhappy is a management issue which isn't going to be fixed with these kind of systemic concepts.

Now, it's a good concept if you want to syphon money away from the people that generated it and put it in your own pockets.

I didn’t say 200k attracted Casemiro I said a heavily incentivised contract did.

I think you’re taking each thing far too literally.

The club seem to have already moved towards incentives hence the reductions in salary this season. This is old news.

Casemiro has signed for United on a contract which is heavily incentivised. If we don’t hit targets he’ll be paid around the same he got at Real.

This article is rightly or wrongly putting a 200k figure on a cap. A cap which will be the base rate, or there abouts, the club will pay.
But that article isn’t actually saying his contract is incentivised. His base would be £270k. It’s a reduction for failing, not a bonus for doing well.

Might be completely mistaken but we had a salary cap in the 90s and I remember Fergie complaining about it and saying it stopped us signing top players.

Feel like this is a cost saving exercise from the Glazers here

I think this is less about the Glazers and more about ETH designing the dressing room atmosphere he thinks is most healthy.

Your guess is as good as mine I guess. I don’t think ETH would come up with the 200k figure though.

This is of course it’s any way shape or form true.

Sounds good but it would certainly bring a lot of trouble.

Rashford contract's running out, are going to offer him a new deal with reduced wages?

I imagine Sancho, Bruno, Maguire are on way more than that with 3 more years on their contracts. Are they going to lower their wages as well?

It’s a good idea I think. Players that don’t deserve to be paid more than their counterparts elsewhere wanting way too much. It might pull their agents in a bit. It won’t be the be all and end all of it but it’s a start. Players like Rashford should be happy with good bonuses.

It would be more beneficial if we were more attractive to play for so players didn’t look elsewhere, but hopefully that’s on its way to being fixed too.

This would have been the right move 5 years ago.

Now top clubs are paying crazy salaries and one of our main advantages of being big would disappear. We don't have the climate of Spain/Italy or the guaranteed league titles of Bayern/PSG, so we're shooting ourselves in the foot a bit here.

And in general, I disagree with everyone being paid the same - this is competitive sports, not a corporate pay scale department. Our problem has not been so much paying too much in the past as it was paying it to the wrong people (Sanchez was the worst one).

I guess having bonus-dependant wages would also help and it certainly is in line with the Dutch philosophy where society is a lot more equal pay-wise and even CEOs' salaries are not as excessive.

Everyone isn't being paid the same.

This is talking about the top bracket - i.e. the limit of the wage. And not going above it massively.

Not quite sure how it'll work with Sancho, when he's on almost double the top bracket!

A good move.
Until we just get players insisting on 200k a week as their wage, but bonuses bringing it up to 350k a week.

I don’t see how we could attract world class players with a 200 k ceiling. There are roughly 20 PL players with salaries above that. Some of them clearly not worth the money, but many of them are PL finest players. We would simply not be able to sign players like Varane and Casemiro with a 200k ceiling.

there’s a lot of over reaction. all the club is saying is that everyone, from the youth team to our first team superstars, will get 200k per week, so no one can complain someone else is paid more than them.
Dubravka really shat the bed there, leaving the week before we turned the club into a co-op.

If they are reaching those bonuses, then overall it would be a good thing for United.

The problem with bonus type of salary, should it be based on teams performance or individual?

Should Martial and Rashford get the same bonus?

He took a literal shit in the faces of nurses everywhere.

the worst part is they thought he was clapping them beforehand but he was just flailing at a cross.

When I say "bonuses", remember appearances count as bonuses!

If it's 200k a week and 75k for an appearance that won't be great!

No, it was down to the tea lady wasn't it?
200k for every single employee full stop.

Not sure why everyone thinks this is a good idea

It’s a terrible idea obviously

Doubt it’s true to be honest
I believe RedCafe is only left wing till we start talking about Manchester United players . This is a terrible idea and players should be paid what people are willing to spend on their talents as it should be in any industry.

Martial, Maguire, Shaw, Sancho getting close to 200,000 per week is absolutely sickening. Not that De Gea, Rashford, Bruno deserve it either

Afraid that we might go from one extreme to the other. 200k seems rather low. The best players will expect and demand more than that.

Our problem has been giving huge salaries to mediocre players like Maguire and Jones. Salary cap might be the wrong way of going around it

Exactly. A salary cap can’t work in the modern game. It’s as likely to breed resentment as the alternative.
