United Retained List - Guess who’s there!

Isn't this just a list of players who aren't being released? Not much of a surprise he's on this list

So De Gea officially gone then because they have asterisks for those with a contract offer and he is not on it.

My guess is pretty much everyone is on it, wouldn't be surprised if Phil Jones is too.

Yeh perhaps. I thought it was a discreet way of announcing Voldemort stays.

I doubt it, he's got two years left on his contract doesn't he? So obviously he's going to be on the retained list if the club hasn't come to a decision yet

Yup, he's still under contract so we have to include him on the list right.

Yeah weird that he’s not even mentioned

The second paragraph

In terms of the goalkeeping department, discussions remain open with David De Gea over a potential new contract, while Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop have had extensions triggered on their deals.

Retained lists occasionally throw up a few surprises, this one really hasn't. I don't know if DDG is left off because negotiations are ongoing. Otherwise, we already knew about Jones and Galbraith and suspected Axel was going. Then as usual, a few younger players like Wellens, Bernard and so on.
Bishop's a bit of a surprise - I wonder if that's just to maintain the home grown quota as he's listed in the current squad of 25.
A shame it never worked out for Axel - I had high hopes for him for a while, hope he finds a good club.

I can't see how they can break his contract if he's not convicted.

Is Phil Jones on there? Surprised he's not scribbled his name at the bottom in crayon before they sent it to be published.

That "internal investigation" has taken years. Not even the police takes this long, what could they possibly still be investigating?

Utd have registered their interest in carrying out an investigation. We’ve asked to be kept informed if any investigation starts without us. We are continuing to monitor the situation. The board is relaxed about the current status.

Internal investigation has lasted longer than the takeover
All I'm going to say on this matter is: at some point a decision needs to be made, one way or another. Repeatedly kicking the can down the road is massively unhelpful to ETH and his squad.

I hope it involves psychiatric evaluations, making him do loads of volunteer work, and an observation period to see if he's genuinely turned over a new leaf. Also if the victim(s) forgive him, I would be okay to give him a 2nd chance, too.

The united deciding whether to investigated the possibly of starting the investigation into anything they do. Place him back in the team and be done with it. Get him on the pre season.

They’re blatantly trying to delay so the new owner can deal with the decision instead.

Typical really for the Glazers.
At this moment I think the club is doing a lot of posturing in so many departments. Our transfer "pursuits" to me seem like something to placate the fans because there's no rhyme or reason to put out briefings we want Kane and Rice and then 2 weeks later bid 40m for Mount ( knowing it'll never be accepted) and then saying yeah the other two are a "saga" we don't want to get involved in.

No decision on MG or whether DDG should stay or go. I mean all the talk about transfer priorities then why not get DDG signed up much sooner than this. If he's not gonna stay get acting on this as a priority.

For any functional club with a reported budget which will stay the same due to FFP irrespective of ownership, they would be making decisions on these points. I don't understand what are we trying to do, which I suppose is in keeping with the last decade so perhaps we should have expected it from the beginning. Lot of posturing but no action.

I think Glazers don’t want to make a decision and the new owners will decide.

Not wanting to get into a discussion we aren't allowed have, but just to point out that people in abusive relationships go back to their abuser approximately 7 times before they finally get away, so that isn't a really much of a criteria for making this type of decision.

Fairly sure that the plan is to try and sell him quietly this summer. He will never be able to play for us again because the amount of controversy would not be worth anything he might add on the field and frankly an awful lot of supporters would be pretty disgusted if we tried that. Italy has been touted with Juve rumoured to be keen but honestly he may need to head to Saudi to find a league and a culture where his past won't be an issue.
Not sure Qatar (if they get the club) necessarily care about that kind of controversy. Sponsors wouldn’t also have any legal ground to break deals. Plus Qatar will bring their own sponsors.
