United look at other targets (Mbappe & Lewa) as Griezmann dropped in priority

Delaney is clueless, Don't believe a word of it. He is nearly as bad as Philip Brown (Pilip de brun) who guesses things while sat in LA.

Makes sense. Maybe go for Neymar or Messi if the Lewa thing doesn't work out. I mean it's good to have some safety options.

I agree. But given how important he's been this season I can see Jose building around him next season.

I'd rather Ibra moved on than for us to spend money on buying players that suit a player who'll only be here one more season tops.

Like Christmas adverts, the muppet season seems to start earlier and earlier each year.

I know delany is bullshitting. I do think people are underestimating how difficult it is to do a buy out clause deal. It will involve about 40% tax and griezmann will have to pay the clause causing more complications. In the end we might have to pay 112 million + for him if we go via the buyout.
That is why i dont say the deal is easy. It is only easy if united placate athletico and pay an amount close to the clause without making Griezmann pay it. Its like ander herrera deal.

"Griezmann trying to engineer a move to Real Madrid".
Who believes this shit?

I would be perfectly fine not getting Greizmann if we can get hold of Mbappe. He might not be Greizmann's level yet, but I have a feeling that he will become and outstanding player.

"A move for the Polish striker would synch with United's commercial aims around the team. Lewandowski has just signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, who would be reluctant to sell, but the Premier League club are considering testing how durable that stance is."

I guess Delaney is struggling to realize that Moyes is not our manager anymore. After all, going after unrealistic targets was his specialty.

They didn't need Kroos?

He wanted to leave and they needed to sell, or they'd lose him for nothing.

They'll sell a player who wants to leave. I doubt Lewa does, but you never know.
I wouldn't be overly surprised if Lewa wanted a move soon. He's been playing in Germany for about 7 years now. He might well fancy trying a more competitive league before he's past his best. If he was available, you'd assume Madrid would be at the head of the queue. Maybe Bayern would rather sell him to a team who isn't a rival for the Champions League though, so we might be in with a shout!

Makes no sense to go after a striker when we have Zlatan, Rashford and Martial who can play a starting role there. We should go for a right wide player if Mhkitaryan is going to play central.

I'm looking at some of Delaney's previous exclusives for United

Jan 2016
Real Madrid still plan to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea this summer, despite having a Fifa transfer ban imposed on them on Thursday.

It is understood the Real hierarchy met that afternoon to discuss the ramifications of the ban on signing players, which covers two transfer windows, this summer’s and Janaury 2016.

They emerged from the meeting so confident of winning their appeal, they decided not to rush through signings during this January window, which is excluded from the ban, and wait until the summer to make a move for De Gea.

Jose Mourinho has identified the Tottenham striker Harry Kane as his priority target for Manchester United this summer, if the Portuguese is confirmed as the next manager at Old Trafford, potentially setting up the transfer saga of the next window.

Manchester United are increasingly confident of signing Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid in the summer - for what could be another world-record fee - although Luke Shaw is almost certain to be on his way out of Old Trafford at the same time, with Jose Mourinho frustrated at the left-back's lack of development.

Pretty sure paying a buyout clause isn't difficult, also Griezmann wouldn't move to Real, he even said as much the other week.

He also says there's complications in his contract, yet he doesn't back up the claim with sufficient evidence?

Not sure how much truth is in it but Balague said the other week Mendes wants to represent Mbappe and his current agent doesn't want him moving for another season, maybe two.

That one interview when he said he would favour staying in Spain really fecked the journos up.
He said himself that the two Madrid clubs have an agreement in place not to go after each others players.
It's not hard to work this out

Well this is most likely BS but if true, I'd fully endorse Lewa but not Mbappe.

I'm getting pretty annoyed of everyone wanting the hottest 18 year old and then moaning and crying when said youngster doesn't show any composure under pressure or no consistency. The last 15 mins against Bournemouth showed why you need some experience on the pitch with Rashford, Martial and Pogba taking one wrong decision after another. Mata was losing his mind trying to get everyone to calm down.

Spurs have a similar issue with their young squad but at least their fans don't expect titles every year and are willing to give their young squad time.

Mourinho will want some experienced players next transfer window. 24-30 year olds. He won't want to count on the likes of Rashford and Mbappe, no matter how talented.

Quoted for truth.

It's
They did not.

Monaco must have the best team in the World. I swear a different player of theirs gets linked to a rich club every week

Lewandowski won't happen, but would be a brilliant signing

They play really exciting Football with a very young team. Sort of like the Dortmund squad years ago.

since last year the spanish tax authorities have decided to "forgive" release clauses, which means triggering the release clause is now easier than ever

Finally someone points it out. People think making use of a buyout clause is like using PayPal when in reality it's a long march through bureaucracy with a bunch of added on tax money.

Not anymore

Ah, the infamous tax myth. Spain tax laws were changed so any amount paid by the club on behalf of the player towards buyout wouldn't count as players 'income' and therefore it wouldn't attract chargeability on that sum. It would be seen as capital gain which can be written off as a loss when the player files ITR next FY.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if Lewa wanted a move soon. He's been playing in Germany for about 7 years now.
Ah, so that's why he just extended his contract until 2021. He wants to leave!

there is also a feeling the 25-year-old may be holding out for a move to Real Madrid
Yet Griezmann himself said:
Barcelona have the three [Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez] up top. Real Madrid, that is impossible because of the club I am at. I think that between them, there is a pact [not to conduct transfers between the clubs]. Germany, the league does not attract me much. France, not for the moment. And England, I have a lot of doubts about my private life. Everything like rain, bad weather … I need to feel happy outside.

Delaney was a bullshitter at ESPN, since his move to The Independent, he's become even worse.

I've not seen much of Mbappe but he's obviously performed exceptionally well this season for Monaco (but then again who hasn't... lol). Just based off the youtube videos, he looks like a fantastic prospect but he plays in the same position as Martial. How does he rate (out of 10) in terms of skill, talent and his possible PL adaptability in-comparison with Martial? Can they both coexist in the same team? Can Mbappe lead the line despite being 5'10?

Wouldn't be too worried. Just posturing in my opinion.

Griezmann may or may not come depending on our ability to offer Champions League football. And it looks like we keep shooting ourselves in the foot with below average performances like the one this past weekend. Playing Pogba in a midfield 2 is a great idea. If you've spent 90 odd million on a player, you have to play him in his best position and his best chance to create magic. And from his time at Juve, we all know by now that he plays his best when he's on the left side of a midfield 3. Pogba is an attacking player and this brings me to the part of having Griezmann in the team. If Sanchez & Aguero can lead the line, so can Griezmann. We need to develop our team to be quick on the counter attack and I don't think Zlatan provides us that. I see a lot of similarities in the team with the (Van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo & Rooney) team. Van Nistelrooy ala Zlatan scored a lot of goals for us but Fergie realized that we had to be a lot quicker on the counter which is why RVN for sold. Zlatan has been great but we need to be quicker. Pogba isn't the quickest and we've got quick wingers but then we don't have people on the end of our crosses most times. My suggestion would be 4-3-3 (with our midfield three (Carrick replacement, Herrera & Pogba), front three (Martial, Mkhitaryan & Griezmann). Now a front three of them are similar in pace to (Ronaldo, Rooney & Tevez). What do you guys think?
