United look at other targets (Mbappe & Lewa) as Griezmann dropped in priority

Manchester United are investigating alternative forward signings for the summer due to the difficulty of purchasing Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, and are considering moves for Kylian Mbappe of Monaco and even Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski.

Griezmann had been the Old Trafford club’s number-one target as the marquee name to join in 2017 but The Independent has learned that his transfer has now been “lessened in priority” because of how complicated any prospective deal would be.
Although personal terms had been agreed with the French star’s representatives at the start of the year and Jose Mourinho obviously still wants him and will persist in trying to get a move done, extracting Griezmann from Atletico Madrid is seen as particularly tough due to the terms of his contract and the Spanish club’s total unwillingness to sell in a year when they also move stadium.
United may be forced to pay his buy-out if they want him, a process much more complicated than having a bid accepted, but there is also a feeling the 25-year-old may be holding out for a move to Real Madrid. United sources say Mourinho himself doubts whether it will be feasible this summer.

For a variety of those reasons, United have downgraded Griezmann in terms of “priority” and have started working more seriously on other options.
Mbappe’s sensational form for Monaco means they will investigate whether a deal can be done for the precocious 18-year-old, but Lewandowski’s current status as a world star - combined with his obvious quality - would also make him an especially attractive signing.

A move for the Polish striker would synch with United's commercial aims around the team. Lewandowski has just signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, who would be reluctant to sell, but the Premier League club are considering testing how durable that stance is.
I for one will believe it once Duncan says so, but i do think Griezmann only comes if we get championsleague and Athletico madrid can sign someone in replacement if their ban is lifted.
The reason given about stadium move and selling Antoine makes no sense,as they need money to pay off loans to build stadium. So they are more likely to sell him.

We'll sign a striker AND Griezmann, especially since the later is not even a striker

>Griezmann dropped in priority due to difficulty
>Target Lewandowski instead

Finally. Can't believe people have been confident we were signing him. Get Dolberg or someone more "mouldable". Let the galacticos do all the power purchasing.

Monaco must have the best team in the World. I swear a different player of theirs gets linked to a rich club every week

Lewandowski won't happen, but would be a brilliant signing

Bayern 'reluctant' to sell their main (and basically only) striker in his prime who just signed a new contract is an understatement if I ever saw one.
I'm always suspicious about stories like that when certain parts like the Lewandowksi aspect seem blatantly made up by the journalist.

Griezmann was just too easy, what kind of challenge is a release clause? Plus he's a renowned United fan, Woody wouldn't even need to tap him up!

Abandoning Griezmann to try and sign Lewandowski is like having Margot Robbie tugging at your belt, but turning her down to try and talk round a smoking hot lesbian.

How is the Griezmann deal difficult when all you have to do is meet the buyout clause? At any rate this sounds like bullshit given Lewandowski is clearly more difficult to get and Mbappe's name has been pulled out of their arse based on him having a good game against City, Delaney and co probably never heard of him before then and I don't see Jose buying kids.

Mbappe is supposed to be a proper talent isn't he?

Griezemann is brilliant but I don't think he suits Ibrahimovic at all.

Bayern sell only players they don't really need. Like Schweini.

What's so difficult about paying a release clause?

I used to have time for Delaney but he's up the with Jamie Jackson spouting shite about United.

>Griezmann dropped in priority due to difficulty
>Target Lewandowski instead

Close thread.

Mbappe? Yes, because Jose has always been the kind of manager to pin his goalscoring hopes on an 18 year old.

Delaney talking shit.

Griezmann holding out for Real Madrid? He does realise who Griezmann plays for. If we apparently having difficulty then Real are hardly going to have it easy.

I'm worried about the difficult of doing a deal for Lewandolski. We should target Neymar and Ronaldo instead.

Well Atletico could just refuse to accept it. It happened with us and Bayern when then we signed Herrera and Javi Martinez. The clubs then had to transfer the release clause into players accounts + plus huge tax, I think it's 40%. The player then had to go to the league and buy himself out of his contract. I think that could potentially be worst about the Griezmann deal. Unless we know that Griezmann is not keen, I cannot see any snags in this deal, therefore, our friend Miguel, is talking shite!

Lewandowski instead of Griezmann is like totally believable.

Real wanted to get Aguero and he ended up going to City. Atletico would rather fold than sell Griezmann or any other star player to Madrid. Especially now, how well they're doing. Miguel is half Spanish so he's probably got some fecked up agenda against La liga players going to premier league,

While what you say is right release clauses need to be accepted only in case of local clubs not foreign, so even in our and bayern's case the deals were closed only after athletic agreed to the sale not otherwise.

Right fair enough man maybe one our Spanish experts can explain further. Or you can if you know. I just sort of remembered bits an pieces from what I've read on the forum to be honest.

What difficulty? It's one of the easiest big transfers you can make. Atlético don't have a record of standing in the way of players that want to leave, especially when the buyer club is going to pay handsomely - evidenced by the transfers of Costa, Falcao, Luís and the likes. He has a €100million clause - pay that and they'll let him go because they've known for a while that Griezmann probably isn't there for the long haul and have access to the open market (unlike Athletic Club - with their Basque policy and resultant shenanigans when they can't find suitable replacements).

And to mitigate that apparent difficulty, you want to target a nigh non-transferable player from a Top 3 European club that has no use for your money? Especially when he extended his contract till 2021 in December? Delaney talking out of his arse as per the norm - can't write any sensationalist pieces for a simplistic transfer, so let's throw two names in to spice things up for clicks.

Makes sense that a Chelsea supporting journo is privy to United transfer news. Totally

Delaney is calling people simpletons on his Twitter because they deduced that whole article makes no sense. He really does come across as a moron these days. :wenger:
