United Appoint New Director of Operations (don’t be confused, it’s an admin position)

On asked about his reason for leaving, Harrison smirked and responded: ''Everton giving +6 points to Liverpool every season made me jump the sinking ship''.

Good to see we're all judging someone off of an incredibly minimal amount of information. Keep it up team.

Did anyone read what his responsibilities were before posting anything, I mean this is a dressed up admin role booking transport for the team and such like

We've made a mistake in that case. There is no way this spoofer is better than Richard Arlison for that role.

What has Everton’s injury record been like? If he’s been directing their operations then surely that would be the stick to measure him by?

Another job for one of the lads then. The whole hierarchy seems to be old British white men.

It’s astounding that so many think that new owners will go in and just wipe out everyone at the club and replace them with new people. Which undoubtedly would ruin all the hard work everyone behind the scenes have been working on for the past year.

Think a lot of you are going to be very surprised that not many people are going to lose their jobs when new owners come in.
Exactly. The narrative that an owner would just come in and replace everybody is ridiculous. The football side is clearly moving the right direction, my guess is the whoever the new owner is will look to build on what we already have rather than destroying it all.
It's incredibly naive to believe this. Sure could happen, but more than likely they'll have their own people in mind for certain positions and there will undoubtedly be a shake up. Also, quite often with these things, it's last in first out.

Football administration, team travel and player support. Sounds like a nothing job anyway so I'm not too bothered.
You're correct, he replaces Dawson who took care of the operations side of the football club when it came to the logistics side. This role doesn't have anything to do with the actual running of the football structure but he will be in charge of making sure the football teams are looked after when it comes to ticketing/travel and the logistics side of things.

The answer is no. Even weirder is the semi meltdown over him coming from Everton as if any of us have a clue of how good or bad they are from an operations perspective.

Why is the reaction to everything here so whiney? Everton are too small? Do we need to get someone in from Real Madrid to book coaches for us? The ghost of Manchester United fans yet to come. Nothing will be good enough unless it's gold-plated and endorsed by Beyonce.

Yeah exactly, nothing to get worked up about. If I was him I’d be worried about the timing of this new job though!

It's fair enough to be apprehensive about hiring a director of operations from a club that has been operating appallingly for years

Does everyone think that all the “good” or “elite” guys go straight in at the top and not cut their teeth at lesser teams? The mind boggles.

It's not so much the fact he's cut his teeth at a lesser club, it's the fact he's cut his teeth at the absolute clown show that is Everton.

They're a horribly ran club.

He’ll be sitting in a broom cupboard like Higgins in Ted Lasso

Did you read his responsibilities? Unless Everton are unable to get transport to matches we have nothing to moan about. It’s an admin job nothing more

Another Everton bloke?
Ok but what does Director of Football Operations do?

Even if United is a well run club which, if you go past the last 6 months timeline is clearly not the case, there is still the ethical issue of hiring top level people at a time when the club is set to be sold. Don't forget that many owners have their own people. That include Sir Jim Ratcliffe who had hired his own brother as head of football and the Qatari people who gave Leonardo a second chance despite not really being good in what he does.

What I believe is happening here is Murtough trying to consolidate power within the club before shit hits fan. He knows that the sale will take months to complete, that he'll probably not be sacked at least until the summer transfer window is closed and he's putting people in place which would allow him to focus on that area of his job (ie transfers) that new owners would probably want to get it immediately right.

As far as we know, Everton's mens, Womens team have always arrived on time to their destinations with coaches, trains and planes at the ready. So Harrison has been doing his job well from what's being reported. :D

Don't know why anyone thinks this.

Articles have already said Qatar ownership would give everybody already at the club a chance to prove themselves.

Ok but what does Director of Football Operations do?

Many people in this short thread have said already:

Football Adminstration, team travel, player support.

It's an admin role, as far as I know Everton have managed to turn up to their away games, winning them is another story.

The funny thing is, if we get new owners in a couple of months this guy may not even pass his probation!

Whoever the new owner is can they please sort out these confusing job titles.

Did this bloke oversee the Everton takeover? Is that why we’ve appointed him?
Unless you mean over taking on the motorway, no, no he did not. His job title is confusing people yet again. He oversees transportation, ticketing for players, admin etc. he’s not a director with duties like murtough

As fans we have zero knowledge on what it takes to run a football club…so it’s amusing to read some of the reactions.

Hope he does well at the club, but with the takeover imminent he might not get past probation.

An okay, makes sense then I guess. Who was doing this before? I remember Mourinho having a meltdown at the guy who was in charge of this previously after an away game in Russia or something.

From what I can tell, Everton arrive promptly at every game.

Good signing.

Not really. You can find out what a Director of Football Operations does, and apprehend about that. Or you can just take the words in the title and run with it. Assume ‘operation’ means he must be a surgeon, ‘director’ must mean he is the head of the club, ‘footballing’ must imply he’s gona play in midfield and ‘of’ must be the same ‘of’ as in ‘soldier of love’. None of this is fair, though. What’s fair is holding back the prehensionsuntil you at least get an idea of what his tasks will be at United, and what his tasks where at Everton.

The feck is the complaining here about? From the sounds of it, he's going to be responsible for travel to/from games, accommodation and all that sort.

Its United fans. If we sign someone from the PL, its "job for the boys" without even looking what his role is.

We have people who just love a moan.

Everton hasn't existed for the last 5 years of his 27 years of service.
