United announce new stadium plans

Am I supposed to get excited about something we were already told, basically verbatim, two years ago to no consequence?
And before people start with Sir Jim, man on a mission, etc. - yes but unfortunately the Glazers still actually own most of the club, don't they?

I dont think Jim wants to be part owner forever, he is going to fully own Man Utd in the next decade. With that said the difference this time is theres someone on this task force that is very visible and would never have been appointed if this was a Glazers mission. Gary Neville will be expected to answer for this as time goes by, the previous announcement had no names attached to it.

Just wait until we all find out that the club won’t actually “own” the new stadium, but instead will be leased back to us by a group of financiers as part of a multi-use facility built with the sole intention of making money.

Looking forward to seeing some designs in the near future, would be interesting for sure.

Though I guess we'll never see the different designs and just the final one. They have to keep the pitch close to the seats for sure, having it too far away kills it, look at West ham!

People keep saying this, but the difference was that West Ham took over an athletics stadium. There's zero reason a new stadium for a football club would need to have a track.

I wish that New Trafford name would die already. It’s childish sounding and Old Trafford is named after the area of Manchester it’s in
Exactly.

As I said earlier. The whole site will still be called Old Trafford. They can sell off naming rights, no one is saying ‘I’m off to the PornHub Arena’, it’ll still be ‘I’m off to Old Trafford’.

Who’s funding this?
From what I've read £300m at the very least from Jim (will obviously be more) the tax payers money will go towards the surrounding area amenities according to Andy Burnham.

Subject to change over and over again. Going to be a long process.

Nothing like looking forward to something eh?

The design is crucial. I honestly hate 99% of new stadiums. Even the Allianz arena, that seems to get everyone drooling, looks soulless inside and explains why every picture you see of it is the exterior.

It needs to have character and personality. Not a basic-b*tch, modern stadium coated in fancy lights on the outside. Make it...imperfect. if that makes sense?

This is how I see it, with the caveat that United will buy even more surrounding land and then rent the plots to multiple retailers, restaurants, maybe hotels, all of these blue chip companies will get government grants as part of the levelling up process to build and staff, however Sir Jim is way too smart so he’ll charge them a rental and communal fee which will go towards repaying the loan fee which Ineos will probably fund. This is £1.5 billion to 2 billion, there’s no way tax payers directly fund this new stadium but Sir Jim will have multiple work arounds especially with his mate Lord Coe.

Yep. And then the stadium will collapse, United will get relegated and ten billion mutant spiders will crawl up our collective ringpieces. This whole thing sucks :(

Took my 7 year old to OT for his first time a few months ago. While he obviously had the time of his life, even he commented on the state of the stadium. After years ofneglect since the Glazers came to the helm, good to see things moving in the right direction. There is hope.

''From an architechtural point of view father, it looks very dated doesn't it?''

Sir Jim is obviously no mug he knows what he's doing getting someone like Coe on board.

Great to see us have a competent/astute man in charge.

Anyone clamouring for "New Trafford" should be forcibly relocated to theat area, search Google maps and you'll find it

No.

They built a bug chunk of the new stadium around the old one and then when they had to knock down WHL, that's when they moved to Wembley.

Ah, thanks for the illustrative feedback. I'm a believer now. Where do we go though to play when the old ground is demolished and the new one yet to be completed? emptihad?

The people that want this don’t realise the stadium is called after the area. New Trafford ffs

Most of them do, it's been posted multiple times a day, hence my opinion is they should be relocated there :D
