United activate option to extend Victor Lindelof's contract until 2025

I think we should try to sell him in the summer, primarily cause he is almost 30 and will be free the summer after that. Saying that, if we cannot sell him, would be ok to keep him as backup next season and then release the summer after that.

He is ok as third/fourth choice.
 
Reasonable decision as I think we could get a decent fee for him in the summer. Varane being renewed would be worrying though given his wages.

Although I agree with Cerberus on the wages, I'd rather get rid of dross and keep a higher waged quality player through a transition period.
 
It's not exactly inspiring but it makes sense given the sheer lack of numbers at CB we will potentially face moving forward. As a backup, I have no problem with Lindelof.

We can't replace most of the entire squad unfortunately so I'll take him as a squad player - he's got previous of being mostly backup and to the best of my knowledge doesn't seem to cry about it when he is which is important.

As long as he stays backup, and doesn’t wheedle his way back into being first choice and then undeservedly blags another long term contract ie what happened with Dalot

Yep that's fair. He has to be moved on I agree but he's not first out the door.
 
Varane is probably a leaver. He'll probably not going to accept a wage cut. Maguire is a high earner as well so unless we bring a manager who wants to build the defence around him then he'll leave as well. Evans is ancient so he'll probably leave or transform in some player coach. In such circumstances we'll need at least 2 CBs. We won't get a 3rd only to sell Lindelof
