Unfashionable PL players you think would excel in this Utd team?

He'd probably be our best attacking player right now.

18 goals and 6 assists in the league: Yeah fair to say he would alright. I think he's a class act; he works hard for the team, is very intelligent and has end product. Hell of a player to have in your squad.

I mentioned Mahrez a few months ago when Leicester were in freefall. Not a popular pick at the time.

Pickford would be a good replacement for DDG if he leaves but be quick as other clubs want him.

Josh King
Gueye
Wanyama - signing of the season imo
Pickford - great keeper, shit team
And this season...Zaha

Eriksen. But after this season he probably goes under the fashionable group.

I have a soft spot for iheanacho as well. He might have to improve his hold up play slightly, but I think he is going to be deadly as soon as he gets some regular playing time

Winston Reid, Patrick Van Aanholt, Marko Arnautovic, Wilf Zaha and Jan Kirchhoff (when fit).

Negredo, Llorente or Zaza. None of them can finish either so they'd look at home at Old Trafford.

Just so happens the three I would take in a heart beat play for Southampton in order of preference aswell...

Romeu
Bertrand
Gabbiadini

Other players to make the list of players I wouldn't mind either are

Ndidi
Arnautovic
Lanzini

I'd say Pickford, I like Traore too, with the right coaching and commitment he could be a phenomenal player.

...............Kane...........Rashford..........
Martial..............................................Willian
.................Pogba........Eric Dier.....
Shaw............Bailly..........Rojo............Valencia
................Schmeichel..............
Net profit plus a dope team.
Vardy and Defoe on the bench.
Herrera, Mata and Mikhi on the bench

I'm a huge fan of Redmond, think he is a great player. Think both his transfers showed there can be good value in English players too.

Agreed, think he's definitely found his place this season as well playing more centrally, added another string to his bow.

Llorente would be good subs for Zlatan especially when the Swede is rested or injured. Decent targetman and physical presence to be playing alongside Martial and Rashford.

After a terrible season for United at LB, players like Bertrand would have been very useful. Even Azspiliqueta. Sorry not sure of the spelling.

Another seemingly problematic position is the no. 10. Intelligent players like Eriksen, or even Gylfi would be beneficial. Mkhi had his best season as RW, and he seems to prefer to be the ones making the runs rather than supplying the passes.

Call me crazy, but assuming that Smalling and Jones are on their way, Bailly could use some experience alongside him and Rojo is out injured for a while...

John Terry on a free, 1 year deal? :nervous:

Romeu
Wellbeck cos he would be perfect Jose foil - hard working, strong and can play across the line. Not that I rate him massively
Johnny Evans cos he's been good here before and is certainly better than Smalling

I'm not sure what you mean by unfashionable but these players would improve our first XI:

- Fuchs
- Van Dijk
- Romeu
- Mane
- Kane

I think Gylfi Sigurdsson would be a brilliant nr. 10 for Mourinho. Hard working, creative, and have been delivering goals and assist for a relatively poor Swansea side for years now. Ross Barkley would probably do a decent job for us in that position too.

Ndidi would be a good signing if we wanted to keep Pogba and Herrera as our 2 starters. Wouldn't fancy having him as our main DM though.

Son from spurs would add goals from the flanks for us but he'd be a nightmare to get from Spurs.

Bertrand is a good solid left back but is he really better than Shaw?

Dier fits everything we need at DM and I seriously hope the rumours are true and we'll be signing him.

He's already a United legend. Let's not tarnish his legacy.

Pickford would be a rubbish replacement for De Gea. We need a ready made goalkeeper like Lloris or Handanovic.

How old was DeGea when you signed him?
You also have Romero if you need decent cover.

He's the exception. We had to wait around 2 years for him to show his true talent. We can't afford to accommodate another young keeper at this transitional period we're in.

Mourinho needs winners and if those players are all 30+, then so be it. I'd rather win the Treble next season with the likes of Pepe, Matuidi, Zlatan, Dani Alves etc than wait a few years and HOPE the likes of Keane, Pickford, Dier and Mbappe can fulfil their potential. Might never happen.

Some keepers mature much more quickly than others. Donna Summer at Milan is also just a kid but scarily good. As I said, if JP were to struggle a bit then Romero could fill in for a while until he gets his confidence back.

N'didi is one of the best DM's in the league, he just hasn't blown up like Kante did yet. We should try to snap him up before everyone notices.
Leicester looked back to their post Kante state against Spurs when they were missing N'didi.

Maguire excellent on the ball and a decent defender, probably better than Keane.

Giroud Direct upgrade on Fellaini to bring on for the last 10 minutes, though a lot less likeable.

Aaron Creswell Decent left back and an upgrade on anyone we have there (bar Shaw for the 5 games a season he is available for).

Ndidi played against Spurs?

I would like us to sign Llorente this summer. I don't rate these other big #9 types we have been linked with, and we would get a better player if our 'big money' forward was one of the likes of Griezmann, Neymar, Bale, Mbappé or whoever we have been linked with.

Mbappé would be my dream signing, but to appease all the ageists, and those who dislike the idea of 'the same type' of forward, Llorente could provide a good alternative option, and for a fair price.

I'm also a fan of Robertson, think he could play for any team in the league. Also in the Adama Traoré camp. He won't be going down to the Championship with Boro.

Llorente is too old now, though no surprise he has a good season at Swansea. He was excellent against us with Herrera and Javi Martinez. All three were perfectly suited to us, Herrera probably less than the other two in all honesty.

Of the lesser names, the player (who I thought was younger) that has impressed me most this season would have to be Clucas at Hull. Im surprised not to see some of the bigger clubs outside of the big 4/5 showing interest in him. Good engine, hardly ever gives the ball away, intelligent. If Drinkwater is worth an England call up, he shouldnt be far behind.

I'm a fan of Clucas too, I made a thread on him in the football forum to that effect earlier in the season.

I'm unsure about Llorente being 'too old' though. There is a tendency on here to do this whole 'sorted for the next 10 years' thing. What exactly is Llorente too old for? Too old to play football next season? That's all that matters for now.

People complain that we can't have a group of young strikers, I think Llorente is a good experienced rotation option to provide balance with the current group.

I'm not really sure what Jose is trying to do going forward, so hard to to answer this, but I think a lot of the talented but maybe still a little inconsistent Prem CBs would probably look quite good here under him, like Maguire, Funes Mori, Van Dijk or Ake.

Charlie Daniels is 30, so probably not moving to a big club, but he always looks pretty good to me whenever I watch Bournemouth. I could see him coming here next year as Shaw insurance and doing a good job for a couple seasons, if Blind moves to get more playing time next year and Mourinho still believes in Shaw (seems unlikely).

I'm not really sure he'd have been good enough, but I certainly felt Zaha deserved a bit more of a chance than he got.

The few times I've seen him play Nathan Redmond looks pretty good to me, maybe as a squad player.

Clucas is a good overall midfielder. Be a good signing for a mid-table team needing another CM like Leicester (after Drinkwater and Ndidi a massive dropoff), Stoke (Whelan is now 33, could drop off a cliff anytime) or Bournemouth (Wilshere presumably leaving and I could even see Clucas beating out Surman as their 6).

Son Heung-min. In fact I'm quite convinced we'd have probably signed him instead of Spurs if Fergie was still around.

I quite like the look of Ben Chilwell whenever he's played at LB for Leicester of late. Only 20 years old too.

Other than that I think the choices are more obvious - Geuye and Bertrand.

Matty Phillips has been quite good for WBA too.

Think it was Leicester that sold or released him

Fair point but I think Llorente is way past his best even though he is still great in the box. I know it has worked for us before with Ibrahimovic and Larsson but just personal opinion I would have taken Llorente five years ago, I wouldnt now even as rotation even though I still like him
