Unfashionable PL players you think would excel in this Utd team?

Defoe just for his goal scoring ability, had we had him in our team this season we would've won those games where we have 20 shots and cant convert any.

Adama traore or vardy for those moments we hopelessly hoof it up field at least they could catch the ball and hold it up

Bertrand, a very good underrated left back much better than shaw

It's such a dangerous road to walk. One day you'll wake up and half the team is filled with junk. We'd be like Milan. A huge club should never settle with good enough, only the very best should come. Some standard requirements like flawless passing should always be included. I don't want a player playing only for himself like Traore or Vardy.

Probably not the thread for you this one!

Tom Carroll
Ryan Shawcross
Darren Fletcher (should never have been sold in the first place!)

My favourite United player of the last decade but at the time he was sold, he was extremely poor.

It's revisionism of the highest order to claim otherwise.

It's amazing that he's turned it a round though.

Have you learned nothing about this forum? The masses don't like unfashionable Premier League players, especially if they're English, they're "Average".
Are you trying to be clever? Most English players are painfully average, hence our national team being consistently rubbish.

Been saying this for a few seasons but it's never gonna happen now. Should have signed him over Mkhitaryan in my opinion.
I'm with you on this one. At the time people were trying to convince themselves that Mikhi was a better signing/player than him probably due to the fact that Liverpool got him.
Mikhitaryan is 28, supposed to be in his peak years and has been average overall for us at best (woeful in the league) while Mane who is 3 years younger went on to become Liverpool's best player.

I'm still not convinced by Mkhitaryan at all.

It's suprised me how little Mkhitaryan has contributed. I thought he was going to be incredible for you but obviously it hasn't turned out that way yet. He may do next season though. Plenty struggle in their first season in this league

Wanyama and Romeu. I could also argue that had we signed Wanyama instead of Schneiderlin we would comfortably be in the top 4 this and last season.

Seems to be par for the course, wasn't great in his first season at Shakhtar or Dortmund either.

I felt it was the right decision at the time given his fitness and illness problems but he's done incredibly well since moving to West Brom and managed to get over his problems.

On reflection I think we jumped the gun and he would have still been an asset, hindsights a wonderful thing as they say.

Are either of those unfashionable? I think they're fantastic players.

Although I do disagree that the difference between us and top 4 is a defensive midfielder!

Yes Kane, Alli and Rashford are terribly average, in fact they're rubbish.

That's my point.

No one could have seen his turnaround coming.

It's a testament to Darren that he has.

We never jumped the gun tbf. Fletcher himself asked to leave because he wanted regular first team football after missing a chunk of his career with the other problem. Due to his service we reluctantly granted his wish.

Gabbiadini could be a steal, very suited to Mou's game imho.

That's a good call, Tadic, Romeu and Bertrand also from Southampton....wait a minute it's Liverpool that sign all their players.

I would like us to sign Llorente this summer. I don't rate these other big #9 types we have been linked with, and we would get a better player if our 'big money' forward was one of the likes of Griezmann, Neymar, Bale, Mbappé or whoever we have been linked with.

Mbappé would be my dream signing, but to appease all the ageists, and those who dislike the idea of 'the same type' of forward, Llorente could provide a good alternative option, and for a fair price.

I'm also a fan of Robertson, think he could play for any team in the league. Also in the Adama Traoré camp. He won't be going down to the Championship with Boro.

I don't know on what planet some of these players are unfashionable, Mahrez and Lanzini, come on like.

Oriol Romeu - Solid Defensive midfielder. 25 years old. He is developing very well. Reports are saying Barca might be keen on having him back.

Wilfred Ndidi - Midfielder who can also play accross the backline. He looks like he might end up better than Kante with time. Diamond in the rough. Packs a good shot. Real hustler. Just 20.

Ryan Betrand - One of the most consistent and best full backs in the EPL in the last few years. I am big on consistency when it comes to footbal so he's a natural choice for me.
Some actual thought went into this

Well done

Romeu would be a great signing in particular

Defoe. Not the best striker in the world, but he definitely knows how to score goals.
