Under 21 Euros 2019

Especially at this level. We build these kids up.
And we want these kind of English players to take us forward! Deary me. Romania have quality in that team, what a goal that was. But hey ho, lets go spend half our budget on an average young full back. This englan u21 team is probably valued at around 500 million accordin to inflated prices. Romania is worth probably 70 million

Couldn't do anything about that last goal, but Henderson's had a mare on goal 2 and 3. Just good to remember that he's got a lot of talent but is not yet the finished article.

There's plenty of quality in this side though to make an impact in this tournament. But a combination of a horrific manager and awful individual errors cost them. Just like in every tournament an England side has ever played in.

1) Has nothing to do with this match.

2) That "average young full back" was one of the best in PL last season and yet United fans still moan. What do you actually want?

Same as against France really.

Don’t deserve to lose but way too many individual errors.

awful header by Clark salter and then kenny gives Coman all the time in the world to pick out a shot.

In two games you can't have a man sent off, give away three penalties, make numerous defensive bloopers and squander loads of chances and not deserve to lose. We got exactly what we deserved here.

Which is why he needs a years loan.

Totally agree. Those in the "boot De Gea and give Hendo the starting job this season" camp would be in for a lot of frustration as he works through his growing pains next year. I still fully believe he could, and should, kick on and challenge for the no. 1 jersey in the next couple of years. He just isn't ready yet.

Romania through.

We're probably out. Thanks a lot, England, you wankers :mad::mad:

Yeah defensively England have been quite bad in fairness. Some good Henderson saves and Tomori played decently in the first game... But other than that, lots of problems at the back.

I thought Mount was the worst of the midfielders today, but Dowell was the one playing deepest and he made just 1 interception and 0 tackles. Not enough of a contribution defensively playing next to 2 AMs like Maddison and Mount. But Dowell did make a few nice passes from midfield.

Maddison made the most tackles in midfield with 2 - not really the contribution you want him to be making. He did also make 4 key passes. But at times he lost the ball to pressing or underhit passes so he wasnt at his best either. Just best of the 3.

Demari Gray was England's best player today. Dangerous, scored, made 5 tackles to help the team win the ball back

When you put it like that yes - is the end we did. But we’ve been the better team in both games and let ourselves down.

Anyway.. hopefully it’ll be a good lesson as 3/4 of these will make it to the first team.

Dowell is fine at the receiving the ball and passing but his defensive game just doesn't exist. We played with 3 attacking midfielders today. It's just not a good idea.

Choudhury a big miss. Glaring omission in all England sides atm is a very good CDM. We are stacked with AM/Forward talent but our CBs and CDMs are poor.

It's not just that though. Boothroyd took only 1 defensive midfielder to the tournament. There were other options like Viera, James and Maitland Niles that could have gone. Also at centre back Tuanzebe and Godfrey were in great form at the end of the season. He stuck with the lads from the u20 World Cup.

Romania aren't through. Can still go out if they lose to France. Probably need to lose by a couple though.
How? If France win today they both go through. If they lose, we might take second, they still top the group regardless.

O.k now I see again what a dreadful manager Boothroyd is.

Not starting AWB, Foden or Tammy Abraham for must win match is truly moronic management.

Can't comment on Viera as I haven't seen much of him but James and Niles haven't been playing purely as CDMs throughout their respective seasons so a bit early to judge them there. We have a smattering of decent options at CDM but none of them are outstanding. Same with CB. Unlike forward positions where you have Kane/Sancho/Sterling in the first team that are arguably world class or near it and people like Foden in the U-21 who have that relative potential too. There's nobody in CB or CDM i'd say that about at the moment.

only 1st is guaranteed to go through. Romania need a point in the last match to be sure if France win tonight.

He got a new contract right before the tournament started.

That said, you can't solely put the blame on him here. There were numerous egregious individual errors that cost us.

can't put all the blame on him I agree, but starting a must win game with that team was IMO bonkers, if you need to rest players rest them against the weakest team in the group, also only taking 1 specialist DM to a tourney is a bit short sighted too.

Fantastic. Go on back to England AWB and sign on the dotted line, quick holibops before pre season.

Well yeah, I'm talking about this specific case and the madness of taking only one defensive minded midfielder with you. Those other players would at least offer a bit of a defensive shield because they have all done well in that position before. As it was we had 3 attacking midfielders playing. I mean Dowell has no defensive game at all so its not a surprise they overran us on the counter.

I agree with the general point about us not developing midfielders that control the tempo enough.

I think Gomez has potential to kick on and become a real top centre back. If you are looking at CDM then yes the options are thin. There's probably only Garner and Patino who are classy and positionally intelligent that are coming through that I can think of right now. I think there's a decent amount of tier 2 centre back talent coming through that could be good.

England senior team has loads of defensive midfielders (not many of them that good but that's another point).

As has been said before England badly lack a tempo midfielder to speed or slow the game down. When you look at majority of tournament winners in last decade they've pretty much all had one. Spain with Xavi, Germany with Kroos and also Schweinstiger in 2014, Portugal with Joao Moutinho in 2016 (although that was more being a defensive brick wall in the knock outs) and France also played Pogba that way and he had excellent tournament.

This tournament should've properly developed Foden and instead we have him being dropped to the bench after one game. Poor.
