UEFA Champions League Quarter-final Draw | Man City v Liverpool

For me since their CL win, 1998, 2013 were the only good seasons in CL.

Didn't know about UEFA cup finals. So yeah make it 3 in 21 years.

Guess United, Arsenal, Liverpool and City are all crap teams as well, whom beating is no big accomplishment, right? I'l admit Dortmund this season have been poor, but to label them as 'rubbish' in their previous seasons this decade is certainly hilarious.

He said Rubbish in Europe which isn't far from truth considering their record in last few years

Can't call this game. My head tells me City are the best side in Europe, but anything can happen over two legs.

I think the Anfield tie being first makes me lean towards them doing us in the second leg.

I hope I’m wrong but they really are a great side. We’re good but they’re better.

Hard to be really confident against teams of City’s quality. My concern is that a big flaw in our system has been exposed recently by Mourinho on that RHS so I’m very concerned by Sane. I also never have confidence in our midfield especially with Can out. If we had Keita right now I’d feel a hell of a lot more confident. They’re just relentless and I don’t see us keeping a CS. I’m hoping for something like a 3-1 but as long as we come away with a lead I think we stand a great chance.

They're definitely favourites. We will have to put in some performance to win. Staying compact and maintaining intensity for 90 mins is hugely important, because as soon as you drop off they are able to cause all kinds of havoc, as seen in the last ten mins at Anfield.

Yeah, Trent vs Sane is concerning. I'm inclined to believe that Guardiola may opt for a more direct approach at Anfield, although he doesn't have a target man. Silva may make a big difference too.

Well I'm hoping Van Dijk will make a big difference for us as well. I'd definitely play Lovren personally. Very unconvinced by Matip as of late, in all honestly for me I'd sell him back to Germany and buy a new CB for next season.

Aside from how good City are, and they're possibly the best in Europe right now, we also have this tendency for collective defensive brain farts where we let the opposition score a couple of quick goals. Since VVD, Robertson and Kaurius' improved form this is happening less but its still there - and with Trent's inexperience and occasional lack of concentration thrown in it means we're still very vulnerable.

On the plus side our attack is capable of scoring at will and City will themselves have plenty to worry about. If we can win the first leg without conceding more than one I give us a very good chance.

The team selections, results and possible injuries in both derbies could play a big part in the second leg - 3 massive games in 6 days.

He’ll probably do the same to Clyne.
A fit Clyne would have contained the damage.

TAA is most likely going to be the reason we go out of the tournament. He's a great talent, but defensively he's nowhere near ready for this sort of challenge. Shouldn't be asked to either. He's 18,ffs It's ridiculous that he's being asked to shoulder that.

I agree. Zaha made him look like a boy (which he is, to be fair) at times on the weekend. No doubt he's a big talent, but he shouldn't be starting this game. Here's hoping he can have the game of his life.

Matip and Lovren are both far from perfect. Lovren has a propensity to make mistake after mistake in any meaningful type of game, so I'd consider Matip.

In reality, at the top level your midfield and whoever partners VD is not good enough anyway.

They might be good enough to sneak through if the stars align.

TAA is not though, defensively speaking.

I'm also worried about TAA against Sane, and I think Klopp might play Milner at right back on wednesday and then let TAA play against Everton.

I would settle for that. The one thing is though that TAA may be able to keep up with Sane but Milner won't. And with Matip on that side too that's a serious pace pain point for us.

We'll just have to hope the pace Ox, Mane, Salah and Firmino bring will be enough to keep the city players on the back foot like the last game at Anfield.

So 4-5 average players will sneak through but if TAA plays you're out? Let's be realistic, you are not winning it regardless. It's not down to TAA. Games away to Spurs, City and United happened this year and you know what the scores were.

Yeah, but he's more solid defensively and way more experienced, which is why I'd go for him. I wouldn't play an 18-year old at rb against City in one of our biggest games in recent history.

They’re not good enough and City can easily play through our midfield as we are so static centrally. Defensively, whether we play Lovern or Matip is really immaterial as both are prone to grave lapses in any game.
City should win this, they probably will win it but at least we’ll give it a real go and try and overcome all our shortcomings by players really stepping up and our front 3 being relentless. And with a raucous home support, perhaps we then can win it. But we’ll need to do it for 180 + minutes !!! Its a Definately maybe for me!

My predictions:

- Manchester City will beat Liverpool surprisingly easily.

- Roma will surprise Barca and turn out to be much tougher opponents than people are expecting, but Barca will still advance.

- Bayern will beat Sevilla with moderate difficulty.

- Juventus will somehow manage to knock out Madrid on away goals.

Bayern will not have any difficulty beating Sevilla. It won't be less than 5 -0 aggregate score. They are a machine. They just beat Dortmund 6-0. If I were in the Sevilla coaching team, I would park a double decker and hope for the best.

Barcelona will also beat Roma very easily. Chelsea looked a difficult side for them to beat but the truth is that they were never in danger of losing. This Barca side is more pragmatic than the past ones. They know how to manage a game.

I agree that Juventus have a good chance. They have cunning, defensive discipline and incredible team spirit. Madrid will depend on individuals to make a difference. That is probably not enough on its own to beat Juventus.

Liverpool and City is a toss-up. Manchester City defend too high up the pitch and that could prove their undoing. Salah and Mane are quick as lightening and Firminho has an incredible amount of resilience and doggedness, despite the fact that he looks androgenous

If City blink against Liverpool like they almost always do in games, Liverpool will chew them and spit them out. Their front line is frighteningly quick. No team has scored more goals than Liverpool on the counter attack in the PL this season.

One practical solution is to defend a bit deeper at their place, foul them incessantly and hit them on the break. Defending too high is just inviting trouble. Their back line is useless and their midfield is well, middling. You don't need to be up that high to cut them apart. Let's hope Pep is not too rigid to modify his philosophy.

I don't know about you guys but I can't fecking wait for these games. Sad were not in it. But city vs. liverpool is going to be a sensational game.

Gimme my Liverpool-loving badge now! I don't care but I want them to smash those fecking Berties on Wednesday!

I want blood, gore, year-long bans; Klopp to have his teeth knocked-out by Mingolet trying to catch a water bottle; Shami Chakrabarti to walk on to the pitch and scream HYPOCRISY at Pep for the entire 2 legs; Salah to quit football and solve all problems in the Middle East...

But I fear I’ll be disappointed. Again.

Just genius tier:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

United surely are since SAF retired.

Okay, I thought there would be bias in your opinion against Dortmund and pro United but credit if you also say United are the same, though I still would not agree to that opinion.

Bravo! Good to see some people prefer an Oak tree rather than an Mushroom !!

I’m very much inclined to agree with you on those points though, in truth, I do feel that City will take it over two legs. Hope its a good game without any controversial refferring decisions.

Juventus are missing many key players today. It's gonna be difficult for them. Bayern should beat Seville easily, instead.

Um before you get too carried away. I just know that Liverpool will do a Liverpool against one of the big boys so I would rather they dump the Berties out first.

City to win this tie hopefully. Can't stomach the thought of Liverpool winning the CL, it would be bad enough if City won it, but Liverpool winning it would just be too much.

I am not as excited about this game as against PSG. I would say that I am too confident.
In Madrid the only debate during these days is who will occupy the position that is free.Bale, Isco, Asensio or Lucas.
There is press pressure to see Isco(the obvious option since he rested last weekend), however Bale played a good game and I think Allegri opted for him.
Then an ITK working in Valdebebas wrote on twitter that Cristiano, in a conversation with the coaching staff commented that Asensio would do a great job for the team.
I think Sevilla will have a bad time in Germany

I want Liverpool to win, I feel they're the weaker against the Spanish lot, City can match their possession while still being dangerous.

I think Liverpool will struggle if they can't keep the ball.

Anyone give Juve/Sevilla a chance tonight?

My thoughts too but its very risky wishing Pool through and hoping someone else takes them out, they could build up a head of steam and push on through whereas, as you say, City are the most well equipped right now to win the whole thing. Its a tough call...I'm flip-flopping back and forth to be honest in who I want to see progress.
