UEFA Champions League Quarter-final Draw | Man City v Liverpool

Its a shame the second leg is away. City will be in for a shock when the walk out at Anfield that night. The atmosphere in 2014 was similar to a big European night at Anfield and they were rattled straight away. The whole city centre will be mental that afternoon and come kick off Anfield will be buzzing like feck.

Absolutely compelling draw and you can’t write Liverpool off, not with their front three running at City’s defence...

You really think showing some DVDs of past success can drastically improve a sides performance? Maybe Leeds and Forest just need to start showing their players DVDs of their past glories.

I think he means that history plays a part both in the CL and in international tournaments, there's really no way to prove it but I tend to agree with him.

Ehehe you are both smart enough to understand the point but our resident United fan is just dreading a Liverpool run maybe?

The Juventus Real Madrid game could go either way, and I don’t know if I would back that Juventus team against Liverpool in the semis.
If you were to build a team in a lab specifically to beat this liverpool side, the result would be juventus

They always do, where's the surprise?

Juve have played four two-leg ties against Madrid in the CL and won every single one. Met twice in the final and lost twice

Madrid are slight favourites this time but I wouldn't be surprised at either result.

The former is 1000 times more likely than the latter. Liverpool would have very little chance against Bayern, Barca or Real/Juve.

I'd wager Pool's chances against us (or Madrid/Barca/City for that matter) as very close to 50/50. They are completely unpredictable, their bottom level is very low for a top side, e.g. they lose against cannon fodder clubs quite often, but their ceiling is extremely high (as always with that playing style, has been the same for Klopp in Dortmund). Plus the only top team that parks the bus/plays long balls in those games is gone (you guys) and this is by far the best tactic against them.

They'll need the wrap them 3 in cotton wool now until the game.
They can't mate. They have to ensure they qualify for the CL and they've got the merseyside derby at goodison three days before the City game.

City, on the other hand, can relax and prioritise the CL - although that may leave them stale and play into Liverpool's hands.

The draw also helps us as well, as Pep will no doubt rest players for the derby in between the two legs.

Probably of a more neutral English football fan than most on here, before the draw was just thinking "please not Manchester City vs Liverpool, please not Manchester City vs Liverpool, please not..."

Sooo boring, see it at least twice every single season.

One loss against a team outside the top six this season, at Swansea.

I get your point though. I think Juve would've been a nightmare for us since they're so solid defensively and can soak up pressure like no one else. City is okay-ish but a bit boring of course - I'd much rather have had an opportunity for revenge against Sevilla (and to show Utd how to attack a horrible defensive outfit) or Roma (for an excellent chance at reaching the semis).

City to knock lumps out of them. Great.

Of course, Liverpool have already won the "We Got Further Than You In The Champions League" Cup, so well done to them. Someone update wiki.

Great for us that these two will be doing intense battle.

Basically will help us secure second place and possibly means citeh rest players in the derby. Nothing is given, but it makes our job easier.

I'm not buying the DVD until we get the ... "And finished above Utd in the league" title too.

I'm aware of your record outside of the top 6, rather meant to say "lose points". You tend to do worse against bad teams that sit back, you'd look completely toothless in attack alot of times then. However, in a "shoot-out" style of game against a big team, you could either get annihilated and collapse out of nowhere or vice-versa. As with most managers that stick to one gameplan, Pep's teams too have a weakness which are those that have fast attackers, defend and press well and hit them on the break. Apart from the defending part, you've got all of that, though it has to be said that Pep actually adjusted our gameplan against Klopp's Dortmund once when he was still our coach, playing long balls and giving up possession at the Allianz Arena. This was the only time I've seen Pep switching styles and we actually beat Dortmund very, very convincingly. If that hadn't been the case and also if City's players weren't individually way better than your players, I'd actually fancy Liverpool winning this tie most of the time.

which is pretty much what people said in (was it?) 2005... of course city should win bu=y at least four on aggregate

But Pep lost against us. Jose hasn't.

The Mane red card definitly changed the game. i could have seen you nicking something from that game. City's style plays right into Liverpool hands and Pep isn't as pragmatic as Jose to change his system or tone it down ti counter liverpool's play.

I think that it's going to be closer than people think. add into that the CL atmospher, City's inexperience and you've got a game.

Of course, city are the favourite. it's obvious, but them advancing is definitly not a sure thing.

Great draw. Two strongest teams (Barca and Bayern) are kept apart, one of Liverpool and City definitely going out.

Rooting for Bayern to go all the way. Think they'll smack Sevilla.

Odd though that you’re the one bringing it up (unless you’re a closet Liverpool fan). Come out mate it’s 2018. :)

They have more CL experience than Liverpool, half of that team played in the CL semis vs Real just 2 years ago.

Liverpool have a chance though. City tend to struggle at Anfield. And their type of football might be convenient for Liverpool. That said, City will have Silva and Jesus this time.

Honestly I'd rather Liverpool won the UCL than City.

They've done it plenty of times before, even in recent memory. Yeah it's not ideal, but City winning it for the first time would be all kinds of awful. Bluemoon's superiority complex is already bad enough, so help us if they win the Champions League. At least the scouse have some pedigree and history in Europe, unlike the lottery winners in blue.

I won't wish Liverpool luck, but I hope they batter City home and away.

Ugh. SIX times? Shitty all the way, it will have been bought with a bottomless pit of money and no one outside of their fans will give a shit.

I don't think either will win it, anyway, so it's moot. Still, you deserve a banner for that.

No way. No, no, no, no, NO.

If City win by ten clear goals over the two legs, it won't be enough. I don't give two shites about City - every single pot they win is a hollow victory. The great thing about it is City fans understand this all too well, also. There's an asterisk beside every entry in their roll of honour post-2011.

Seriously?! No Utd fan ever wants Liverpool near a CL final. City are plastic no one cares.
I remember (as a City fan) Utd and (Kanchelsis) destroying City 5-0 a few years after City won 5-1. At the time 5-1 was all City had to boast about. I was in the Utd end that day and I am telling you now anyone that says Utd don't care about City wasn't there that day. Utd didn't care about Liverpool 50
Years ago and won't again if City continue on the upward trajectory. Saying you don't care about City is just an insult to throw which loses its value the more City become key opposition

I expect a ton of goals in City-Liverpool, Juve-Real would be great if Juve not had many suspended and injured players.

I would’ve liked to have avoided City, but at this stage, there’s nobody ‘easy’ really, and (straw-clutching), we’ve beaten them twice under Pep, lost and drawn once. Who knows?

I think they’ll also be a bit annoyed at having to play a PL opponent. Glad to have got this far but will be gutted if we go out.

That’s Football, (that’s what all the people say, riding high in April, buggered in May, but I know I’m gonna’ change my.....)

Yes, I’m a div’. (It’s been well documented by the missus’) :)

Nah, it's just the truth. You won the lottery.

Your attempt at gaining relevance is cute.

Trust me, 99.99% of United fans actively cheer on City when they're playing Liverpool. City were tonked 8-1 by Middlesborough ten days before United won the European Cup in Moscow. That was the gulf between the clubs prior to City winning the Oil State Lottery. Absolutely everything you've got now is down to pure luck and circumstance. United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton etc. are proper clubs with loads of tradition. The vast majority of football fans don't care when City win trophies, which aptly sums up their standing in the game.
