UEFA Champions League 2013-14 draw

Leverkusen is certainly stronger than Schalke. Shakhtar has the wonder kid Bernard who will rip through Evra or Jones/Rafael both home and away. Sociedad are Basque, remember Athletico Bilbao?

Hasty exit for United, I'm sorry. Fortunately you won't have to bother with EL games either.

Looking for white text....

No, there's none? So this is a serious post? Then I'll bite: We'll win this group with a game to spare, you wenker.

Wake up and stop twisting your willy.

That's an important part tbf. He was Bayern's best player last season, and they won the treble, demolishing Barca in process. Totally deserved IMO.

But the prize is for the best player in Europe, not the best player in the best team in Europe.

Also don't forget that Messi was injured when they demolished Barcelona.

 this post is taking the piss, if not then you need to give your head a wobble.

Weren't Sociedad relegated a few years ago anyway?

How did they manage to qualify for the CL?

They came fourth in La Liga last year though.
Deservedly as well.

They've lost Illarramendi but basically kept the team intact and they played well against Lyon in the qualifiers. Not a bad outfit, capable of producing a scare or two.

And football is a team game. Regardless how good you are, the most important thing is that the team win.

Messi was capable of playing in the second game, but Tito didn't send him on knowing that the tie was finished.

:D Very good, Arruda.

It was fairly obvious that he wasn't fully fit.. And the tie was also finished because Messi wasn't fit in the first game.

Anyway I think it's good for football that team achievements are also recognized at personal level, to get the players to work more for their teams. But in the end my opinion is that it was deserved for Bayern, but not for Ribery.

It's probably already been asked but when are the fixtures released?

Pretty interesting that all German and English teams got in the groups together. It will be interesting to see how that duel ends and if the Bundesliga is really as strong as some pundits over here in Germany like to think, I personally think it will be a very close duel with Bayern probably finishing above City, Dortmund above Arsenal, Chelsea above Schalke and us above Leverkusen so a 2-2 in the end.

In a week normally, right? Ajax, Celtic & AC with Barcelona - that's a historic group right there. Guess a visit to the 'dam is in order, anyone see a match of Ajax before?

Even Figo couldn't open all the damn balls, let alone McNeil. A nice intention, but an unnecessary embarrassment for him.

Meh, Bayern would have killed Barca with or without Messi. It was 7-0 after all and Ribery was an important part of that. Bayern not only won, but they dominated every competition they played last year, so I think that it is deserved that their best player got the award. Hope that he'll get the Ballon D'Or too. Pissed me off when Sneijder wasn't even in Top 3 (despite deserved it) and Milito wasn't even in top 23 although he was the best player in UCL last season and the most influential player in Europe.

Once you examine it, I don't think United's group all that bad. Shakhtar Donetsk has sold three of their best players from last year's team, Real Sociedad are back in the Champions League for the first time in a decade and aren't really expected to finish in the top four in La Liga this year. Bayern Leverkusen maybe the third best team in Germany but they are not anywhere near the same level as Bayern Munich and Dortmund.

It's a tricky group, but that should keep us focused and force Moyes to put out strong line ups. It's not as easy as Chelsea's group, but United should still finish top.

I have

I have. Went with a friend of mine last year. Great spot

These groups are as dull as post stamp collecting.
I couldn´t be bothered, I´ll start watching when United play in the last 16!

So you're now making it not just an "important" factor, you think that's the actual definition of the prize? It should only be given for a player of the team that won the trophy?? That's nonsense IMO.. Greece won the EURO in 2004, but I have no doubt in my mind that the best player in Europe that year wasn't from Greece.

Yes, teams' achievements are important, but they are recognized. That's why they get to receive a cup at the end of the competition. When we're talking about player prizes, player's performance on personal level have to be the most important factor, with other things factored in..

Group C may lack quality but it will be a dogfight, Group E looks far & away the easiest

Yeah for Chelsea probably of course I was looking a bit at Schalke and I don't know if there is anything easy for these guys atm so I guess Chelsea will walk the group pretty easily, while Schalke will have to fight their own brainfarting mentality to progress.

surely they don't take a week to announce the fixtures? that'd leave it fairly tight for the first game!

Surely they'll be out later tonight like normal?

If there's one thing I took away from watching the draw, it's this:

How out of touch are UEFA? Is there literally a single person in Europe who sat down to watch that thinking "I hope they don't just do the draw, I want them to drag it all out with extended speeches beforehand and video biogs of old players between each section". I mean, where does this madness originate from? Just do the fecking draw, it is all anybody wants to see.

Confirmed

Tue 17 Sep Bayer Leverkusen (H)
Wed 2 Oct Shakhtar Donetsk (A)
Wed 23 Oct Real Sociedad (H)
Tue 5 Nov Real Sociedad (A)

So we've got Sunderland (A) after Shakhtar (A), Arsenal (H) after Real Sociedad (A), and Spurs (A) after Leverkusen (A).

Thanks, seen it already. We play Zenit and Atletico home before going away to them, which I appreciate.
