UCL Round of 16 - First Legs - Feb 18 - 26

This is odd - I appear to be an Arsenal fan tonight. I actually groaned when Ozil missed.
Same(ish). I groaned when he stepped up. I think its just the inevitability of it all, you just knew he'd miss.

I think that's most of us tbf. Could be one of many reasons. Supporting an English non-rival team? Better chance of winning the CL with Bayern out?

Haha! What a fecking garbage penalty. Why would anyone take a penalty so dreadfully? If you're gonna put it down the middle, at least twat it hard.

Because he's too lazy to smash it. Neuer just knew what he'd do. As did everyone in the stadium, no power behind it at all.

Two fantastic saves from Neuer already, really is the best keeper around at the moment. Poor penalty but in the first 10 minutes Arsenal have shown this won't be as one sided as some had feared. Well, providing they keep this level of performance up which is a big ask. I too seem to want Arsenal to win - no idea why, that's one of the many beautiful things about football though. You sit down wanting to enjoy a match as a neutral and find yourself supporting a team you never thought you would. I guess it's more to do with supporting the underdog than wanting Bayern eliminated for United purposes (we aren't going to win it... are we...)

I'm enjoying 'neutral' football a lot more this season. Maybe because I'm not getting my usual football fix from United...

I just had to do a 3 minute very-quickly-explain to the girlfriend as to why I am supporting Arsenal tonight,.

This reminds me of our games vs Barca. We started strong and then got dominated.

You can see the massive differences in our play, where Carrick gives it and stays, Kroos/Martinez give it and go.

Ugh. Why do modern players refuse to just put their foot through penalties?

Yup. Glad somebody else noticed that. Martinez' run opened us so much space of Thiago to drive forward.

The nice thing is you can get caught up in it and enjoy watching it, without the hassle of caring what happens.

Mind you, I spent an hour watching the GB curling team this afternoon

Just feels like this tie is already over somehow after that pen miss. We are all hanging around waiting for Bayern to score.

It's a travesty. As a professional player you should be able to choose a corner and 9 times out of 10 place the ball into the corner cleanly. I'd dock wages for shit penalties.
I'd make the person who missed the penalty stand in goal in training while the rest of the squad battered shots at him for an hour.

I wouldn't last long in football management.

What the bugger's wrong with these professional players? I never reached pro level but still never missed a penalty. Granted I was only playing for Burton Biscuits United versus AFC Plumbing Solutions but that's not the point.

Ozil was offside in the buildup I thought.
Yeah just about it seemed to me. But I like the idea of giving advantage to the attacker if you're not 100% certain, so no big deal. He's about the last player on that Arsenal team I'd have let take the penalty, I think everyone knew he would bottle it.

Why does Boateng play as the right sided CB? Him and Dante are the definite dodgy links.

Thiago looks immense. Would have been quite a coup for us to get him and Barca would regret letting him go some day
