U21s: United vs. Chelsea

This is a good game for us, regardless of the result. I watch this team steamroller other sides all the time and wonder how much benefit they get from it.

Brown and Da Silva will learn a lot form coming up against the likes of Rafael.

Agree.Don't think it's a particularly good games from us but the second half is decent and both of the teams have many good talents already out on loan.

I think Pereira is nailed on for a top flight career in one of the big four leagues. He is so good with a dead ball and excellent at holding onto the ball. He has a bit a nastiness and arrogance about him too.

Yeah he has run very well... He is useless going forward, can't cross.

It is incredible that he is a winger that is now better at defending than attacking. There was a point on Sunday when he had time to put a cross in but waited for the defender to close down the space and hit it against him. I shouted at the TV!

Rafael is not the best crosser of a ball either. I saw him smash the ball into his marker twice against Chelsea in this just ended game.

2 assists so far this season for Valencia. The most Rafael has ever managed is 4. Playing for a title-winning side. Next best total is 3. 1 or less in every other season.

Just throwing it out there.

EDIT: PL stats.

Valencia hasn't only played RB this season...

His assists have both been from RB. The less games he's played in that position the better his assists/per game.

RWB I'm pretty sure.

EDIT: I'm even more sure Rafael would get more assists if he played RWB with more license to attack and push high up the pitch like Valencia

I would say that Valdes, Rafael, Young and Blackett is first teamers. Powell and James have played aswell. Pereira been involved...

U21s who have played in the first team? I can understand how you'd struggle with that concept, but I'm afraid it's well within the spirit and the letter of the law!

Joyce sounded less than impressed with Blackett in the post match interview

I did exactly the same, shouting at my monitor. It's like never ending story for Valencia hitting the first player. Remember the season when he was really successful with this kind of "crossing" he made high number of assists and actually was one of the best classic wingers in the world but now he can't do really thing even he's got space to do so, rather put the balls through his legs thinking he's ronaldo and pass back. Maybe it's because he is restricted to do some things with this new philosophy, maybe players with good dribbling who can go forward and creates chances are just forbidden in the team.

LAV is big proffesional but he was pretty broing this season, having a lot of good games defensively but hardly doing anything in attack. Would start Rafael any day, I miss his tenacity, aggressive approach with a little bit of flair which we completely lack on that right hand side with Valencia as he is playing like a machine.. none of them are any great crossers but I think Rafa plays with his head up much more and finds his target more often. Hope he is back soon because I don't want to scream at my tv every week..

Had an exam so missed the match. How did Harrop and Powell do?

Kellett didn't get in did he?
Kellett didn't get on, harrop wasn't anything special, Powell was decent, worked surprisingly hard but completely fluffed a chance through on goal. Pereira and Weir when he came on were probably standouts for us.
