I'd have Harrop as the best player in the team right now. Lovely little player, he really needs to be getting out on loan though too.
This team will give a good indication as to who's playing tomorrow.
It's nailed on that Lingard, Andreas and Wilson will play. Hoping for a nice surprise that some of our u18 get a shot.
I'm expecting some disappointment i.e Wilson playing today etc.Van Gaal didn't even use any youth players beside Wilson and Januzaj versus League Two side Cambridge last season.
Looks like you were right.
The official twitter feed confirmed that Johnstone, Wilson and Lingard will feature for U21's. Very disappointed in this.
We were always going to play a strong(ish) team against Ipswich. Van Gaal won't take any chances after the debacle against MK Dons last year.

Johnstone
Valencia-McNair-Jones-Rojo
midfield
Lingard-Pereira-Young
Wilson
No idea about the midfield, but we could've played this team easily. It's good enough to beat Ipswich but you're right, I forgot about the MK Dons debacle last season. Understandable why LvG doesn't want to take risks, still disappointing though.
Which was his own fault more than anyone with that tactics and combination of players.
Some of that team knew they were on their way out, so couldn't care less if we won or not.Which was his own fault more than anyone with that tactics and combination of players.
Neither of the two clubs mentioned have shown the slightest interest in developing youth and actually following through on that and putting them in the first team. City might be about to start going down that road a little bit more with the investment into the Etihad campus and their academy, but to my mind, while I understand the reasons we might advance for not doing it, we should be strong enough to stick to our own identity and give those players chances. Otherwise, as is starting to look the case, you're just paying lip service to an idea.Having been so spectacularly embarrassed by youth/fringe players in the CC last summer there was never any doubt in my mind we'd go with a near full strength team against Ipswich. I guess it's possible that might change as we progress in the competition but being humiliated the way we were, so early in Van Gaal's United career, was always going to change our approach to the competition.
On a side note, I can see most other teams taking the same approach. Chelsea and City have always fielded strong teams in this and I reckon Wenger is going to start doing the same,
Dunno. I blame the likes of Evans, Welbeck, Hernandez, Kagawa for playing like donkeys against 3rd/4th division team. Can't blame the manager when you get hammered 4-0 by such a bad teamWhich was his own fault more than anyone with that tactics and combination of players.

Will they have more than two? McNair and Andreas will probably play a part against Ipswich. I know Kelechi and Barker are highly rated, is there any others you assume? For all the mock about City here watch them playing more youth players than us tomorrow.

Loaning out the likes of Januzaj, refusing to involve Wilson and holding on to the likes of Johnstone and Lingard all have the look of decisions that may not be in the players' best interests, or at least taking chances on other clubs being able to develop them.
he put a mismash of demotivated players on the pitch to prove a point. that defeat is solely on himDunno. I blame the likes of Evans, Welbeck, Hernandez, Kagawa for playing like donkeys against 3rd/4th division team. Can't blame the manager when you get hammered 4-0 by such a bad team
A mish-mash of young players in a team that has never played football together competitively for a single 90 minutes is something of a wasted exercise. It doesn't say anything particularly good nor bad about a club's long term strategy and commitment surrounding the youth system.
Young players need loans. Earlier in their development and for longer periods of time. We haven't been getting that right for years now. When we get that right, it'll be of far greater benefit to the club than handing out token minutes to young players in what is now an important cup competition for the club.
We will benefit more on Wednesday by playing a strong first eleven that gives game time to squad players that haven't yet played a great deal: Valencia, Young, Fellaini etc. We need them to be fit for when they are needed. Moreso, the team would benefit even more from starting Rooney and getting him on the scoresheet.
I think that's probably right. Especially with the reserves playing so few games each season. I'm sure this was less of an issue in the past.
The u-21 schedule is stupid. There should be a game every week. Yet half the time there isn't one, then they end up playing a high number of games in a short space of time at the end of the season. No wonder they don't develop. If you ask fans what they want from the season then I think most would say that a title challenge plus a good cup run so I don't mind a strong team in the cup,I would actually blame the shite scheduling of this U21 league more than LVG

What the feck we are doing with Wilson and Johnstone anyway ? Also Lingard.
Either fecking use them or let them go on loan. Makes no sense to keep them if they aren't even gonna play vs Ipswich.
That was the Fa cup though, even under Fergie our FA cup teams tended to be quite strong..its the league cup where we played the kids, We did that too with LVG and that didnt turn out well, so I can see the reason behind his thinking.I'm expecting some disappointment i.e Wilson playing today etc.Van Gaal didn't even use any youth players beside Wilson and Januzaj versus League Two side Cambridge last season.
U21 football is less glamorous..you have to remember, this guys are merely politicians in football..big talk, ;little action. It's a massive issue for the whole of English football, in my opinion. The likes of Greg Dyke bang on about foreign player quotas and homegrown rules, but between the FA and the Premier League they can't seem to make it work for young players aged between 18 and 21.
Too few competitive games for too many players and so much talent goes to waste as a result. Take Jesse Lingard, he's 23 in a couple of months and has played a mere 51 professional football matches. Whether we play him on Wednesday or not doesn't matter, he's already been failed by the system.
As a United player though, you have to at least put in some effort..For some players, e.g Hernandez, I think that was the final nail in their coffins, and they was no coming back from that perfomance. Some of that team knew they were on their way out, so couldn't care less if we won or not.
Has the full team been released?
