U18s: United vs Liverpool

Now that the angle is on the left, we can see how huge is Kunkokny he is massive

Know we probably can't afford to be picky given at least they're showing it, but I miss the days when the commentators on these games genuinely knew their stuff academy-wise. Pretty sure James Bailey didn't come on in that double sub and it was Albert Mills?

I can see that too. He had a very good start to the season for the u-21s.
Also, given Mount's injury and McTominay moving on, he's the best placed youth player to play that number 10 role to give Bruno a break.

Great chance for Mantato on the counter but it just doesn’t seem to be his day (in terms of scoring).

Yeah that’s true.

Bailey and Ibra coming on for Fletcher and Biancheri now.

Poor finish by Mantato to be fair. He hit it straight at the goalkeeper.

Liverpool are usually dirty as feck at this level but they've been alright today it seems.

This Liverpool-side really is garbage.....there is close to zero quality here

MOTM today was fairly easy at least. Fitzgerald one of few United-players who had a really good game.

By the standard of the foul Baumann got a yellow for, that one by Lambie deserved like two reds. Tackle of a player whose team has been held at arms length by an opponent not even getting out of third gear.

It's not a lot younger than ours...we are talking maybe half a year on average

It absolutely is.

We played 3 first-year scholars & 8 second years. Liverpool played 7 first years, 2 second years & 2 U16s. That is a big gap at this level and makes a big difference.

Well I don't know the age of a few of their players so let me rephrase then. They had at least 5 players who are 17 years old, and they all looked several levels below our 17 year olds

Mantato should have scored one of his chances, even if it was the offside effort after Biancheri missed. One area for him to work on. Speed, dribbling and movement are all very good.

We should easily win the league (North) again this season.

After seeing the first 2 matches - it's hard to disagree with you. Especially when you add that we have several players who are yet to make their debut for the team. But the strangest thing about the northern league is that apart from us, the teams at the top after 2-3 matches are the teams who you wouldn't expect to find there and vice versa. Derby, Wolves, Sunderland and Boro have all had great starts - while City have struggled (even if they are destroying Everton today), Liverpool have been awful and Newcastle not much better

While in South - it's more what you would expect - Spurs, Arsenal, Palace, Villa and Brighton have all had good starts to the season - oh and Chelsea have been exactly as awful as Liverpool have been (0 points and -7 GD after 3 games)

Of course it's early season and all that - and we don't look quite as strong going forward as we were last season, but defensively we have been really good.

I think we will win the league again but I do hope we will eventually play a younger XI moving forward. I do understand the mitigating factor of Munro’s injury leaving us a bit short at the back and need to get the likes of Fritzegald and Tyler back to speed plus 3 new singings can’t play yet but most of this XI are second year scholars who are part of the treble winning squad last season, you do hope more of them will follow Amass and Jack to step up.

Wouldn’t surprised much at Chelsea or City struggling so far as Chelsea was losing some key talents and City has quite young squad and new signings do need to settle. I do think City will eventually still be quite strong this season (not as strong as us though our squad is quite ridiculous when everyone is available)

With us needing Collyer in the 1st team it will probably have a trickle down effect to the U21s/18s as if we don’t play Rowe we will only have Curley and McAllister as 6/8 options so maybe some game times for Devaney/Fritzegald/Baumann in upcoming months (don’t even count Moorhouse these days as God knows when he will be back)

Bennett/Aljofree/Nolan going on loan will naturally free up a few more spots in the U21 squad. Don't see any reason to expect that we won't make full use of the U18 squad again throughout the season now the window's closed and these two opening games are out of the way (we pretty much always go pretty strong for the City/Liverpool games)
