U18s: United 9-0 Blackburn

As much as I agree with that - he sure has a lot of quality to choose from - we could remove our entire starting 11 today , and still have a side strong enough to beat the majority of the clubs in the division

Kamason, Munro, Overy, Thwaites, Lusale, J.Fletcher, Lacey, Obi-Martin, Musa etc

So no doubt he is doing brilliantly - but he also has the proper tools to work with

One thing I noticed regarding that ruthlessness was that at 8-0 up Biancheri and Ibragimov were arguing with each other because one didn’t pass to the other.
I’ve seen a lot of training videos of his (looks lovely) but not a lot of actual game time. Where’s he at in terms of ability and development?
I was about to say we could with having the first team attend a few of these games to learn about keeping the foot down when you’re on top.

How did the Sunderland City game finish?
City won which is best result for us? (other than the fact it’d be funny if their U18s lost every game).

Derby winning 2-1 but think they’ve had easy ish fixtures to date.

Definitely need both … there are good coaches in football over achieving with players they have, and average coaches who’ve been given very good squad and mis-using them.

Out last night with two mates, one Everton and one Liverpool fan, and was trying to get across how much talent we have sitting behind the first team. I know it’s tough for a high % of teenagers to kick on to real PL talent, but we have a LOT of possibles.

Worst case scenario, only a small number make the first team and rest are average PL/championship players and we sell and bring cash in… best case scenario, we have half a dozen who progress which I’d much prefer to buying in as they understand the club.

I honestly think the futures really bright.

Derby have the following results:

Liverpool 5-1
Newcastle (a) 3-3
Brighton (a) 5-6
Stoke 6-2
Wolves (a) 2-1
Blackburn (a) 6-0

Have to mention Arsenal u18 as well - their 4 last results are:

Arsenal - Liverpool 5-3
WBA - Arsenal 3-3
Arsenal - Southampton 3-3
Brighton - Arsenal...... 3-3

You know what to expect from Arsenal at the moment

Fletcher claimed assists for ”only” four goals. That would make it six assists for the season so far.

By whom? Who doesn’t rate him?
He just doesn't get the headlines is all. Nit sure James will .ake it here, I was hoping he'd shown more this summer but let's see how he grows this year. Wasn't easy playing fullback for your first minutes in the first team

It seems it was James Scanlon's 18th birthday today too. What a way to celebrate it.

I'm really impressed with Tyler Fletcher's performance. He takes care of the ball well and have good passing range including line breaking pass and through ball.
Also, he can move deeper or higher on the pitch. This is early in the season but promising sign.

Scanlon's "problem" - is that he isn't so easy on the eye - fans usually prefer a Mantato or a Lacey who are more skilled with the ball at their feet but at times are really inefficient players. Scanlon doesn't beat 3 players - he just has other qualities.

Some really encouraging signs from some of the newer players in the squad. Kukoni has a really nice pass out from the back and he is showing more confidence in bringing the ball out of defence.

Plunkett is a good attacking outlet with the ability to carry the ball and reminds me of kamason. Both have work to do on positioning and timing in the tackle but definitely fit the modern fullback profile.

The midfielders movement was very impressive and they created openings with smart play and making good decisions. All quite similar but still effective.

All the forwards worked hard and pressed from the front all game. The manager pushed them and set standards.

Murdock made save at 1 nil I think that was very impressive and was more about quick thinking than and reacting. Think his settled in well at this level.

Some players are all style, no substance, Scanlon may end up being the opposite. Not the most stylish player but gets the job done.
