For those who keep up with the u18s, who would you say is currently the better player between Gomes and Sancho?

Probably not much in at at the moment, Sancho far more explosive and powerful and up until recently had more end product but this season Gomes has hugely improved his goalscoring and number of assists. Sancho also has complete belief in himself while Gomes can still be slightly timid at times despite his talent. Gomes is around 6 months younger which at this age can make a huge difference at this age as seen with the difference in performances from a number of players between last season and this season. Both excellent prospects though and along with Sessegnon and a few others that 2000 group for England has some serious talent in it.For those who keep up with the u18s, who would you say is currently the better player between Gomes and Sancho?

I tend to agree. I'm not saying Chong isn't a talent or that he's not going to make it but I can see where you're coming from. I maybe expected more than I should have based on the hype but that's more on me than Chong possibly.
Whilst Gomes has (rightly) taken a lot of the plaudits and attention, i feel like Buffonge has flown a little bit under the radar. There is an extremely talented footballer there and I think he could be one of the ones that makes it. Whenever I see him, I'm always struck by how effective, for want of a better word, he is. He always seems to have an impact on the game and I think that is something to be valued in a player.

Buffonge has been very impressive I agree. He is very tidy, and looks much better than he did last year. I must admit that I was surprised that we even offered him a deal at first, I believe he was on trial from Fulham - but I can definitely see the fuss now.
I like Whelan in the middle of the park too, he's another very tidy one who is perhaps a bit under the radar.
Based on what exactly?
Chong and Janko? Thats no comparison.
The fact that he came from Fulham. If so, an absolutely nonsense thing to say.
Chalk and Cheese.
Yeah or a trial match or two, which is as poor a sample as possible (not sure that match/those matches were even televised). Of course it could be that the poster followed Fulham's academy really closely.
If the poster had watched Fulham, he would've seen/known that Buffonge was one of their best players, before he turned down his scholarship offer.

Yeah. We’ll see what he based his opinion on.
Good to see Bohui has played well in the striker role recently. Could be important for the FA Youth Cup run.
So basically, in the absence of me answering a question directed at me, the two of you have basically made up the answer yourselves and begun debating it?
All despite my initial post making the answer a bit obvious I think, in that I said that Buffonge did not initially impress me much, hence my surprise that his trial was deemed a success. Now I can see the fuss.
His trial was only for 3 competitive games and he went off injured in the third as well and he was probably our best player in 1 of the other 2 matchesHow can one be surprised that a player’s trial is a success if one doesn’t see those trial matches? In general, people are way too quick to judge young players, a few matches is never enough. For a lot of youngsters it takes a while to find their best position and joining a new academy, just as with older players joining a new team/league, can take a while to adapt to. Buffonge joined us last november. So he basically played half a year with us, prior to this season. Still quite a small sample size.

Obviously, although I'm not a scout and it isn't my duty to be patient. I see a player, and I can decide whether I think he is good, ad or average. It's what football watchers do. It doesn't mean that my assessment is definitive and that it cannot change.
Buffonge joined last year on trial, and I did watch his games as a trial isn't, hence my opinion on him looking fairly average. As stated in an earlier post, that opinion has changed. Again, all fairly normal.
Slightly fortunate to get a 3-2 win but more dangerous when Gonzalez came on to score the injury time winner. For anyone that wants to get another look at City's youth, they're live streaming their UEFA Youth Cup match vs. Celtic on Youtube.
Cant embed cause I'm a newbie but it's UEFA.tv on YT.
