U17s European Championships

I’m not sure but I think it’s head to head before goal difference. All with three points. If it’s head to head gd after that it’s:

1) France +2
2) England +1
- - -
3) France -3

But yeah I think France need more goals anyway.
Yep my mistake

Portugal: 5-3
England: 5-4
France: 2-5

Quarter-finals:

Wed 29 May

Czechia 1(3)-1(5) Denmark
Austria 2-3 Serbia

Thu 30 May

2-1 Poland
Italy 1(5)-1(4) England

Semi-finals:

Sun 2 June

Denmark vs Italy
Serbia vs Portugal

Based on the first 40 minutes of Czechia vs Denmark, England has a great chance to get into the final if they can get past Italy. That’s a big if of course.

The quality has been poor. Neither team are able to string a few passes together. I know Czechia played a perfect record at group stage, but perhaps that says more about the quality of their group.

It could be the nerves of playing in a knockout game, so maybe the second half will be better.

Having a challenging group stage could help England, they’ve already faced some adversity and bounced back well against Spain.

The Czechs take the lead. We’ve seen some amazing goals from the edge of the box in this tournament.

Obi with a spectacular equalizer. Keeper makes a mess of it but the dribbling in the build-up was impressive.

Austria take the lead after 23 seconds. Beautiful control and finish from Adejenughure.

Portugal go in front after four minutes.

Huge difference in the quality of the pitch compared to the the AEK Arena where England will play their QF later. That looked horrible yesterday.

I don't understand why he keeps dropping Amass. Wasn't he on the bench for the first game as well? Have I missed some injury or does the manager want to play a different system which Amass isn't suited for?

One of our best players is knocked in the area, the ref doesn't give the pen and shows him a yellow that will keep him away from the semis if we win. Awesome.

Because he has other talented players in the squad. I think he wasn’t or hasn’t been fit enough after his injury, so he only came on as a late sub for the first two matches.

He played well against Spain in a back four but obviously the coach thinks this is the tactical setup and the lineup that works best against Italy. And it’s not like subs are less valuable.

There’s been about four of five potential penalties in this match.

Fair enough. Who is this other talented guy replacing Amass in the lineup? I know a few of them like Rigg, Moore, Nwaneri are highly rated but I don't know how good any of those defenders are.

McFarlane seems to be the one he’s fighting against. It looks like they’ve gone back to a back three and the coach feels he’s more suited to play in a LCB role. They don’t really play with wingbacks either, especially on the left where Mikey Moore is the player furthest down the left in the lineup.

It's also good to remember that all coaches rotate players at this level. It's not that one player is getting dropped if another one gets a chance.

Must say Portugal has been the best team in this tournament so far. Poland deserved to go through too, more than Denmark or maybe even Serbia, but that’s not how it goes.

If England get past Italy it will very likely be a rematch between Portugal and England in the final.

Hopefully with the same score:smirk:

Apparently quenda didn't see a yellow, he can play against serbia.

Wow, 1-0. Moore with yet another brilliant run. And Nwaneri with a world class finish.

Yeah credit to Liberali for the dribble and the tenacity to keep the ball once there was a block or two, but the England players around him didnt show enough desire to defend and win the ball. Poor from them

Other than Moore's dribble into the fantastic finish from Nwaneri I'd say Rigg has been the standout player, winning the ball as well as key to passing the ball to the attacking players

Yeah Rigg’s been good today. Looks like himself again.
