Tyrone Mings - 26.5m?

He was excellent for Villa last season. He's good enough to be a Premiership mid table full back, for sure. I think I saw that the fee is 20m, which is probably a fair price for both clubs. Mings already knows the club, already knows the players and staff, so it's a no brainer for Villa to sign if permanently if it was possible.

I agree except he was purely a CB for us, never played left back.

No wonder Leicester want 90M for Maguire.
10 years ago we paid £30 million for Barbatov. Inflation in the transfer market is unreal. I would say it is unsustainable, but if it didn't burst in 2007, when will it. This makes the AWB transfer look a bargain!

26.5m is a lot for basically a championship player. Good deal for Bournemouth though as they've got double what they paid for stampy.

That really is good business by Bournemouth or completely crazy business by Villa - not sure which is most true.
Point made about the insane money EPL players go for:lol:. This is why Prices for players in lesser leagues is worth it especially when they are so obviously better then lots of guys in EPL.

Tyrone 30 games since 2015 fecking Mings for 26.5m! :wenger: just crazy. I bet even those relegation clubs from french, spanish or german league have equally good players that will never go for similar price unless english club is buying them. you can only laugh, really.

Another case of very low wages meaning a greater transfer fee.

People mention the likes of Jones, but he earns 5 times the salary. £20-25m sounds like a ridiculous amount but they're probably saving £3m a year for 5 years in salary over him... Apple's for apple's you're paying £30-35m over 5 years for Mings, which is the same as Jones with a £10m fee.

Whenever I hear "Tyrone"...

Sol: He's a natural, ain't you Tyrone?
Tyrone: 'Course I am...
[reverses into parked van]
Vinny: A natural fecking idiot.

"five minutes"
"It was two minutes, five fecking minutes ago"

Ah, Tyrone. You silly fat bastard.
Tyrone: I didn't see it there.
Vinny: It's a four ton truck, Tyrone. It's not as though it's a packet of fecking peanuts now is it?
Tyrone: It was at a funny angle.
[All three turn and look back at the van]
Vinny: It's behind you Tyrone. Whenever you reverse, things come from behind ya'.

"Too tight? You could land a jumbo fecking jet in there"

Man, that movie is so great.

He was excellent for Villa. A lot of £££ for him though.

I dont know why we werent for him, great buy for that price lol

I don't want to let him go - but if they pay £26 for Mings, surely we can get Villa to pay us £40 for Tuanzebe ?

A poor Premier league player costing this amount, and no doubt on 30k a week minimum.
Just feck off.

Don't do it to yourself pal.
When we sell him for £3.2m in a year's time it'll only hurt.

As poor as people over exaggerate our centre backs as being, all are far better than Mings.

Very good signing.

Whenever I watched Villa he was immense. Completely transformed their defence. Kinda disappointed, though, as I wanted Villa to keep their best players this season.

Hang on...he was on loan at Villa, now they've signed him permanently...so they're keeping a "Best player" of theirs aren't they?

Have I read this wrong or does Yaga think Man. United are signing Mings? Could you imagine that, flying in Zlatan to present him a Man. United shirt on his presentation.

Oh, he was only on loan at Villa? I thought they bought him and now Bournemouth were buying him... My bad!

Ha, nooo, I thought Bournemouth were buying him. I got lost!

Anyway, as impressive as he was when I saw him, he still leaves a bad taste in the mouth after the whole Zlatan incident.

Yeah he was playing for Bournemouth when he Jackie Chan'ed Zlatan.

Yeah, I completely forgot he was at Bournemouth

Well then, this is a good signing for you! It'll be interesting to see who partners him as I reckon Ole will want Tuanzebe as part of our squad.

We've been linked to Adam Webster of Bristol City. Know little of him and we're being quoted 20m aswell...

Would much rather get in an experienced euro CB, Fabian Schar for 3m to Newcastle was a brilliant deal and there's plenty out there in europe for similar prices. Gary Cahill on a free wouldn't be worst move either to give us experienced head.

Seeing you lashing out an insane fee for Mings makes it quite annoying as a Wycombe fan (as well as United), that you picked up Kortney Hause for such a piddly 3m fee! We had a sell on in that!
While he was coming from the championship rather than Premier league, 3m for a young English defender going to a Prem team sounds cheap!

I'm sure that's the fee agreed with villa when he went on loan last season before the market went crazy.

He barely played for Wolves in last 18 months. Started a few games for us but Axel-Mings was very much our first choice. Think Wolves were just happy to get him off their books. From what I've seen I think he's got more potential of making career at left back than CB.

In 2019/20, the bottom club in the PL will earn about £97m from TV rights and £3m in prize money alone. That's near enough £100m in revenue without kicking a ball. It'll probably be more like £110m for Aston Villa because they're a big club who'll draw a big audience.

All of which compares to only £40m they got in the Championship.

In other words, they'll be getting at least an extra £70m (plus the additional gate receipts and sponsorship premiums), so they can afford to go wild on players.

If you assume they'll have budget up to £100m this Summer in order to stay in the PL, spending a quarter of that on one player isn't too extravagant.

The truth is that the PL is about to leap even further ahead of everyone else. The top 17 are going to be able to afford all the best players that aren't already at Barca, Real, Juve, Bayern and PSG. Villa are obviously hoping to cement themselves in that top 17.

On Mings himself, he's not as bad as is being made out. Yes, he's a bit of a clogger. But he's also a beast and an experienced PL level performer. Fantastic in the air, too. At the very least, you know he'll be able to hold his own, and that he has chemistry with the rest of the squad.

EDIT:
Also, Football clubs historically spend about 25-30% of revenues on transfers. This has been true for decades. All that's changed is that English clubs are currently earning bigger revenues than everyone else.

Villa are likely to have a revenue of about £130-140m this season. They're easily within budget, particularly if they cash in on Grealish.

If I read one more person crying about possible fees for Maguire etc after this ! A bang average player who probably hasn't even played 20 PL games ( I'm guessing ) for that sort of fee is mental .
