Because you need to have the highest bid? Feyenoord can't really go to Lyon and say yeah we agreed everything with you but now weve sold him to someone else for the same fee. Thats also not a professional way to do business. It is normal that if United come in after a deal was made that United has to top that bid. A little higher guaranteed and total fee seems very reasonable.

Shaw is unreliable with all the niggling injuries. Telles is slow and really not very good. Williams seems a decent lad but I don’t think he’ll ever be a top player.
Dalot and AWB both have their limitations, but I reckon EtH sees stuff he can work on with them; Dalot’s crossing, for example.
This post totally ignores the fact that we are on the verge of signing fdj and are actively trying to get Antony.
Even if we sign a lb 48 hrs before getting fdj does it matter?

I've a couple of times, better touch, carries the ball better, better passer, cut backs are top notch, thunder bolt strike, faster, generally superior talent.

How many games did Shaw play last season, 22?
Telles is crap. Shaw is up and down. This lad comes cheap and is always fit. I don't think he missed a game last season and Feyenoord has had the longest season out of any club in Europe.
Even if you rate Shaw, he'll miss a lot of games, could potentially play in a different positions and his best stint at the club came after we signed Telles, so it's possible he needs competition to perform well. Competition Telles has proven he cannot provide.
LB is a priority.

Shaw was injured for almost the entire time Ralf was here. The one time he was actually fit he was clearly first choice and started all but one of our matches in February. His build-up is very good for a fullback, he normally plays a huge part in playing out from the back and helping our midfield get control (personally I think his poor form in the first half of the season and injuries in the second half played a big part in how much our midfield struggled last season). Shaw's final ball has tended to be his weakness, but he turned that around in 20/21 and was good at that as well.
Hopefully Shaw can get back into his 20/21 form, but if not then hopefully Malacia does come in and establishes himself as a good player down that side.
Or maybe they are easy targets as our competion is lyon and Brentford. 1 is free and the other is cheap.

Stellar. Feyenoord played conference qualifiers all the way up to the final (although they lost their first domestic cup game to Twente). He was in every Holland squad and played at least a game during each international break.
He may have been rested during a dead rubber group game or something. I don't think he's missed more than 1 game this season through injury. I saw in their Disney documentary he played through a minor (muscular?) injury for one game because the manager really him needed him to the season prior.

Four things that frustrate me about Telles is how he goes long when pressed in his own half instead of try to pass or dribble through the press, how he never overlaps even when his winger is double or triple marked, how he will always go for the cross even if we're outnumbered 1v4 in the opposition box and his general lack of pace to beat a man, criminal for a fullback.....plus his crossing is more quantity than quality.
Feyenoord can accept offers from multiple clubs at the same time. Each club would then offer Malacia a contract and it'd be up to him which one to accept.
In fact if they actually had accepted the offer from Lyon, I presume Lyon's offer is still on the table for Malacia to potentially accept even though we're apparently offering Feyenoord a little more. We are supposedly spreading the transfer fee over three seasons though, so I'm guessing that Lyon was offering it over a shorter period which is why we've had to offer a higher total.
Whilst I believe we need a full back, I wouldn't have said left back is something we need as a priority right now. That being said, I guess if there's a player ten Hag believes has potential, suits his philosophy and is attainable, then from ten Hag's point f view, it's something he probably shouldn't pass up.
Don't be surprised if Shaw plays as a centre back.

Glad to see some real competition for Shaw come in, might not be the worst in a team full of mediocrity but we should've brought in another potentially starting level LB since Mourinho was here.
I think Shaw will still be first choice but if this guy can force his way in then more power to him.
Thanks, if he can take his chance when Shaw inevitably gets a knock then he might cement a place if he's reliable in that sense.

He's an LB that actually runs. He's gone Robertson's engine and he's quick as hell. He may not be the most polished crosser but he's very good in possession.
