He's fantastic. Best left back in Spain and one of the best in the world.Filipe Luis now says Ogden. I fecking hope not, he's bang average and must be about 29 now. Would be ridiculous.

He's 28, 29 in the summer. From what I've seen from him he's a very good all round fullback. Better then Coentrao or Baines as well IMO, while being younger then Baines. I think we should get somebody who is younger like Shaw for the left back position though. Coentrao is decent but isn't that great defensively, he'd still be a good signing though. Filipe has been better the last few years though, and is probably one of the top 3 left backs around (says more about left back quality then him though).Filipe Luis now says Ogden. Fairly contrasting opinions, there. Which one is closer to the mark? He's fantastic. Best left back in Spain and one of the best in the world.
Proven talent for what? We're not rebuilding to make the top four, we're rebuilding to challenge for titles and, eventually, the CL. Is Cabaye better than what we have? Yes. Is he better than what our domestic and European rivals have? No. So what's the point? We sign Cabaye that will be £48m spent on Fellaini-Cabaye and I don't think we're all that closer to solving our midfield problems. And we already have Fellaini, Fletcher, Carrick and Cleverley, we don't have infinite squad places, the next central midfielder we sign has to be top class, and going from what Moyes has said and what the papers are reporting, it seems the club see it this way too.I agree, anything below £20 million is a good deal for us I think.
Not sure why people are acting like 28 is too old either.
Right now we need proven talent.
Sport Witness also reported that we scouted William Carvalho last night. We aren't half getting about a bit.
Edit:

Yes, 4 times. If not for Marcelo, he'd have many more.Ok so bang average might be harsh but feck me he's not "one of the best in the world". Has he even ever been capped by Brazil?
Okay, I've no idea like, never seen the fella play, either of you could be right for all I know.Ok so bang average might be harsh but feck me he's not "one of the best in the world". Has he even ever been capped by Brazil?
I thought they attempted to filter out the shite.Isn't Sport Witness a load of shit generally? Would love it to be true though, we need a big, strong, energetic defensive midfielder who is pretty good on the ball at time.
No chance they will sell in january. I'm hardly the only one who would think that he's up there with the best. Can't see us signing someone who's nearly 29 and already cup tied for the Champions League. He's also an important player at an Atletico side competing for La Liga.

I was also thinking this, probably another case of journos guessing because we're apparently after a LB. Could it not have been another trip to watch Koke or one of the other 20-odd players?I thought they attempted to filter out the shite.
Apparently in Portugal clubs release a list of the scouts present at games so it's likely we had someone there of it's reported but I suppose what they can't know for sure is who we were definitely watching.
We probably were watching him to be honest, we've been watching him for a while now I think. I just asked on sort of an unrelated note, I genuinely am not sure how reliable they usually are or if they just put any half exciting thing they see in newspapers.I thought they attempted to filter out the shite.

Would he not have a buyout clause? If it's quite low this makes a lot of sense, I'm of the opinion that we need two left backs, so an experienced one now and one for the future in the summer seems quite logical. No chance they will sell in january. I'm not saying they are or aren't, I was just wondering. I was always of the idea that they aren't an actual source, just like a website that collects a bunch of rumours from different locations and puts them in one spot. Actually that's pretty much exactly what they have for their twitter description. So they won't have any exclusives or any new information on their own. They are? How come?

If that's true then this is surely a no go. We wouldn't go any higher than £16m for Baines, and Moyes loves him.Apparently it's something like 21 million.
Usually the opposite I think. They usually try to get to the root of the rumours and call bullshit when they see it.We probably were watching him to be honest, we've been watching him for a while now I think. Oh alright, I just thought they were just like all the other ones like the give me football source from facebook who just put random stuff, or like the mirror basically, without their own exclusives.Yes, but they do not portrait themselves as a source which many seem to believe. They do, in most cases, quote other sources quite openly with the purpose of pointing out why we should or shouldn't believe the quoted source.
Cabaye is already 28. I just don't see the point.
Already 28, bloody hell, that's bang on peak age!
Footballers are peaking at a younger age these days. Experts reckon your average modern footballer's peak years now range between 24-29 (obviously depending on position/role etc.)
And the size of the hat they use to pluck that information from
Deep lying play makers and centre halves probably peak at 28-33, while wingers probably peak at 23-28. Definitely depends on the position.
I don't really know that much about Cabaye, what sort of player is he? From what I've seen he doesn't look bad, but it seems no-one at the CAF rates him, or the fact he's 28
Ashley is drunk if he think he can get more than £18-20 million for Cabaye. He also has a player who didnt want to play last time a good club bid for him, think about his reaction when he gets wind that Newcastle are asking a ridiculous fee for him, its unlikely to be a pleasant situation and he's likely to go a step further and try and force a move. In the summer he'll when have 2 years left on his contract and Newcastle will be lucky to get £15 million for him at that point, so now is the time to sell him and receive enough to get a good replacement.
