Hhhmmm, a bandy knee is a massive risk. We'd want to be 110% certain he'll fully recover before spending that kind of money.

If there are doubts about his knee, we'd be well advised to steer clear.

So there was contact with Vidal without the English media getting a wind of it? Impressive. It's back on!

Just spend the $80mil so we can brag to everyone. Don't care if he doesn't kick a ball.

I didn't even think his knee injury was that serious. He hasn't been plagued by injuries before either. The only worry is surely that he was rushed back and wouldn't be fit for a while?

It sounds like the club have a ready made excuse now with Vidal, 'concerns' over his knee.

Not really, the way I read it is that we're being 110% certain he'll fully recover. I think a deal in principle could be agreed, we're willing to be patient though. The quotes from the Chile manager is the best source we've heard thus far.

Possibly but there always seems to be some sticking point with us, injury concerns, haggling over price, not wanting to pay a £2mil agent fee, etc, etc. You can't help but be cynical at times.

I dont blame the club for being cautious.. If this going to be a Hargreaves v2.0 then better we back out now.

I still think our midfield struggles stemmed from Fergie's refusal to bring in a direct replacement for Hargreaves as he wanted to give him the chance to recover.. And we never went on to replace him even after he left..

I'd agree in the case of Manchester United and major transfer deals, definitely.

Beat Liverpool 3-1.
van Gaal promises more signings.
Napoli confirm their interest in Fellaini.
Chile's manager confirms our interest in Vidal.

Today was a good day.

And jokers like you would be the first people to take a pop at the club if his knee went to shreds. Can't win.
I'd take the risk to be honest. Besides whats the point of delaying this, if he's got a major problem then its not suddenly going to get better over a couple of weeks, he will surely need to have an extensive medical and that can't happen if we don't put a bid in.

Fan pressure? Really?
yep. There are two sides of it. One is negative, like the constant moaning and abuse that goes on on the media (mostly internet based nowadays). The other can be classified as positive in the sense that the player involved would be more marketable should the club sign him.

I think Vidal is worth the risk, even at £40M pounds.Someone always compares an injured player to Hargreaves on here.

Almost every player gets a semi-serious injury at some stage in their career and are out for 3 months plus. The vast majority of these player return to play as well or nearly as well as before the injury.

Of course we should take all the necessary precautions and if is somehow clear or likely he won't return to full fitness then obviously we should stay clear but we shouldn't be scared of taking a small risk on a player of Vidal's quality.

My dislike for Moyes is only going to grow and grow. It was difficult enough competing with money clubs for top players when we were in the Champions League.

That fecking clown has made it significantly harder this season.
Look on the bright side, if we had scraped fourth we would still have Moyes.

Look at Khedira. Suffered a much more serious injury than Vidal and returned to his pre-injury levels.

Modern surgeries and subsequent rehabilitation are very advanced now (even compared to 6, 8, 10 years ago - many keep referencing Hargreaves and Saha) and 99% of players recover completely.

I think once we commit to signing Vidal and selling our unwanted players, this will be a formality.

Yeah, you can't make such a huge investment with big risk of the players knee giving way and reducing his effectivity big time.

I agree, as a fan I would also take the risk. But it isn't my money, and our next midfield purchase simply has to be right. We've wasted far too much money in recent years and it has to stop.

To be fair, the three players that we are apparently... two of them were going to be hard to get CL or no CL. Dortmund would never let Hummels go easily, same with Juventus and Vidal... Whilst nobody here seems to want Vermaelen anyway.
