I apologise in advance if this is horse shit! I started following this Renato guy after the Chilevision interviews and he retweeted this.

He's one of those who never says anything ground breaking so plays it safe so that nobody can pull him up as an obvious liar and enjoys people believing he is an insider.
With the overwhelming speculation with Vidal about 10 days ago he thought he was safe to pretend he knew we were in talks etc...thinking that it would be done anyway and he would get credibility despite not having a clue.

I think he is one of the journos that the club are using as an unofficial mouthpiece under LVG. Thing is that LVG doesn't want to say an awful lot. The clubs stance on Vidal is that there has been no contact, but I'm sure they would say this for any player we're linked with. He's just reporting what he's told.
I personally believe that the Champions League and European Cup should be distinguished as it is much harder to win now even as the best team. So many more hurdles to jump and more opportunities to slip up. But hey, that won't stop Sturridge raising 5 fingers in his first game for Liverpool against United despite only being alive for one of the wins.

You will have noticed he went suddenly negative when everybody else did. I think he lost his bottle in maintaining a story that he had no real information on.
