Unless Valencia and Young are in the mix for that position, which I fear they are.

I can't see why Young would be - either at 5-3-2 or with 4 at the back. He's a left sided player anyway.

Valencia could do a job with 5 at the back but I think it's far from guaranteed Van Gaal will stick with that. Using it on tour may just be a way of getting the players used to a different system and a plan B.

It's arguable we need additions in a lot of places. If consider right back one of those positions. Cuadrado would be a good signing for me.

He'll join PSG.

Yep; no doubt in my mind at all.

Another slow day on he united front. It's got to heat up soon hasn't it

Well we've still got to overpay for Vermaelen, so I guess the situation will marginally defrost at some stage.

Yup, Peter Spencer is terrible, he knows nothing.

It does seem nobody in the media knows anything about us these days; least of all him.

Young would be in the mix presumably because he is right footed, not for me though, I've seen enough since he came to OT to tell me that he is a decent player but very inconsistent.

It's going to come totally unexpectedly - only the few individuals involved in each transfer negotiation know what's going on this summer (better than last summer's very public pursuits).

However, throw enough sh*t and some of it will stick and a few journo's may get it right and take credit for being ITK.

That's the issue. These ITK's spout too much shit, when some of it actually happens they just delete the rest and look reliable. Gullible people fall for it too. The amount of people believing an account on Twitter called ''Agent Edward'' is scary.

It's not just the Twitter rubbish though, some of these "journalists" for well known newspapers / news channels are just as bad.

Summary after the first two paragraphs which anyone can view:
  • When he was 14, he spent his time alone studying with the coach Rinus Michels.
  • Spent no time imposing his methods on the squad when he came to Carrington 11 days ago.
  • In LA, United were staying at the Beverly Wilshere hotel. van Gaal wasn't happy with the squad having to make a 25-mile trip four times a day between hotel and the place where he was running twice-daily training sessions, so he had the club book rooms at the Holiday Inn closer to the stadium. Players could eat then sleep at hotel after morning sessions before training in afternoon.
  • Asked for same in Washington DC. His logic is that he is determined to maximise every minute with his squad on the inner workings of a technically challenging system. He was angry when training was delayed the day before the match in LA because the team bus was caught up in rush hour traffic.
  • Under Mancini, City's players complained they didn't spend enough time on training ground working on 352 formation he briefly introduced with poor results in his last season there. LVG doesn't want the same to happen at United.
  • At open training in Denver, LVG had all coaches in matching outfits right down to each wearing black Nike boots (Giggs' boot sponsor Reebok might not have been impressed). He also got staff to go to Denver in advance to ensure dining arrangements were in order.
  • LVG insists that senior squad each lunch with coach and academy players at 1pm to give some discipline and team spirit through the club.
  • United chef has been run off feet in America catering to LVG's dietary stipulations for the squad. When becoming Holland coach in 2012, he had a floor of the hotel where the Dutch squad stayed refurbished to create a big meeting room (he called it safe haven) with table tennis, card tables and flat-screen tvs.
  • Holland team bus was similarly designed before World Cup.
  • Most impressed by Evans from the CBs, whose passing and distribution he considers superior to Jones and Smalling.
  • LVG wants one/two additional ball-playing centre-backs (one must be left-footed).
  • Vermaelen fits the bill and Hummels is another leading target.
  • Though LVG likes players to use both feet, he insists on passing drills that balls are hit to individual's preferred foot (Precision, pace, control, awareness the buzzwords).
A lot of it is pretty much the same as what was said in Jamie Jackson's article, but there's some new things.

If distribution ranks highly in LvG's most wanted abilities in his central defenders - I fear for the future of Chris Smalling.

This, above all else, is what I wanted from our new coach: rigour. Rigorous tactical preparation and rigorous technical coaching. It's why Klopp was my first choice and it's why LVG is a very satisfactory second.

For a few seasons now the team has looked so... uncoached. The good moments have come from the individual quality of the players, but there have been so many games in which the players don't really seem to know what they should be doing, where they should be standing, what sort of football they should be playing.

Whatever happens under Van Gaal there surely won't be any of that. Everyone who knows him says he is obsessive about making sure every player knows exactly what they should be doing at any moment, and that the team is drilled to perfection. It won't come immediately - it'll be a massive culture shock after Moyes, I expect, though probably a pleasant one - but by the end of this season I think we'll be a very different outfit.

That's because he already has another one. Vidal. ;)
Sadly i can't see Vidal coming to us but i still haven't given up just yet. I can't see us going into the season with this midfield either so someone HAS to come be it De Jong or Vidal. I would be pretty calm if LvG confirmed we want a new midfielder.

Certainly looked capable playing with the ball last night.

Lazio are only club to bid for De Vrij. Man Utd have no interest in him.

These from @Tomhay in the newbies.

As I said to him, I find this encouraging. I'm confident that if we really want Daehli back, we'll get him within a few years when he's got some regular football under his belt. He's mentioned a number of times in the past that he can envisage returning to us. Cardiff's chairman has reportedly said that Daehli is free to take a PL offer if he wants to, but for now Mats apparently wants to take advantage of the guarantee of regular football that he's got at Cardiff under Ole, and I think that reflects a sensible approach to his career.

What I wasn't confident of was whether we actually had much interest in bringing him back. So if there's any truth to these rumoured inquiries then, as I say, it's encouraging.

Is he in favor of returning to us though? Does he want to come back to us in the future? Did he say that?

Although the credibility of that Twitter account is seriously questionable, you'd imagine that Daehli would be happy to rejoin us at some point, especially if a manager of LVG's calibre is in charge. Anyway, I'm sure OGS will help guide him correctly, whatever happens in his future.

Forgive my naivety on Daehli is he any good? Would we want him back?

Buy Fabian Schär and be done with it. He's quality and is good with his distribution.
