Yeah, but what do people want? They want him to be an up-to-the-minute ITK and also to call it like it is every single time. Those two don't go together. Simple as. It's as plain as fecking day this is what he's been told. He, in order to keep getting told these things, has to report it as such. So if United leak this to him and he writes up the article, but two minutes later is on Twitter saying "Had that DickEd Woodward on the phone earlier, trying to convince me they're not in for Vidal. Nice try, Ed, you daft little midget" then it's not exactly likely he'll be told things in future, is it?

Aye, it must be frustrating being forced to allow yourself become an unofficial mouth-piece for whatever PR agenda the club us peddling, or risk not getting any more scraps from the table in future. Particularly galling when it makes you look like a bit of an eejit over some other "ITK" tid-bit you leaked a few days beforehand.

I know that he can only report what his sources tell him and those sources have agendas that want certain info out in public. Doesn't stop Jackson from being a twat though.

Jamie Jackson now retweeting people who questioned him saying no talks have occurred. Absolute pillock.

Even if Vidal ends up staying at Juve, it doesn't necessarily mean that Mitten was wrong when he said that there have been negotiations with him. Won't stop the idiots saying he's a liar though.
He's retweeting people giving him abuse and others saying he was just passing on what he was told. Hardly makes him a pillock, particularly when there are a bunch of genuine pillocks abusing him because he's saying something they don't like. It's pathetic.

I don't know the guy, so I wouldn't know.

Talksport seem quite adamant that Vidal isn't coming.

"Not Vidal tho"

Why's he a twat then? Genuinely curious as to what he's done other than pass on what he's been told?

Juve were always going to be positive about Vidal staying in this presser.

If he's staying: they're just telling the truth.

If he leaves: it gives the appearance that Vidal wanted to leave rather than Juve needing yo sell him.

Indeed. Particularly, as you say, when they're directly contrary to what they've said previously. But they all have to tow that line. To admit that they know they're being used to peddle stories leaves them open to suggestions that they're reporting something dishonestly. If you don't report what you've been told someone/everyone else will and you won't get anything the next time a story is being leaked. And as soon as that happens, what use are you to your employers?

As @Enigma_87 pointed out in the other thread (doing my head in the way this discussion is spread across two threads - this twitter thread is so fecking pointless) you also have to bear in mind that the main talking point in the presser was him reassuring fans that no, Conte didn't leave because of their transfer strategy. Would be out of his mind to be anything other than bullish about Vidal's future in that context.

I felt though in that video he was sort of covering himself if the deal doesn't happen by bringing up his rack record as a way of defending himself if things go wrong.

I thought the opposite and I hate to say this because I was genuinely excited about the transfer. They way I saw it, he seemed to insinuate there was no deal - he didn't say the club are saying this but my sources are adamant we are in talks - he kind of washed over that.

He then went into defending his sources as they got the Valencia friendly date correct - for me this was a look I might have got this one wrong, but I did post this before anyone.

It would appear we might have moved onto other targets - have we been linked with Barkley yet?! :)

I want Vidal as much as the next guy but at the same time i would love to see Van Gaal target people himself- after seeing what we have and building his own side in his mould with players that effectiveley work in a system and style of play. Now if Vidal fits that bill then brilliant.. but i wouldnt want us to be like Chelsea where the manager works with who the higher ups decide they want at the club.

Just saw someone on Twitter make this point:
Could United have been using all the attention the media have given Vidal to sign other (real?) targets under the radar in order to keep competition away?

Hear the same thing every year. Also hear that old addage about Fergie saying we have not interest in Berbatov a few weeks before we signed him..

Pretty sure Vidal is his target, according to that Dutch guy, Van Gaal sees Vidal as his ideal midfielder and he tried to sign him 4 years ago when he was at bayern.

Yeah. Vidal was a smokescreen for De Jong and Vermaelen.

So everything that has come out is wrong then or is all lies to the media etc... us having no interest?

If we really have no interest then it's all moot, as we won't ever sign him.

If we do sign him, the fact that LVG has previously tried to sign him for a different club goes against your idea that he's being forced to sign players identified by Woodie et al. Which was an idea you weren't comfortable with, right?

Always seemed pretty clear to me that we are just denying everything until things are official, like we did to Ogden about Herrera and everyone about shaw pretty much. It's smarter that way so things like last summer don't happen again. We clearly are interested, Vidal himself said it. Mitten also said we're just denying everything but his source said we are negotiating.

People take words of journos too seriously, like for Jamie Jackson. I'm sure he's not making stuff up, that we did actually tell him we aren't interested or he isn't a target. That's complete bollocks of course because he clearly is.

Yup. So if we sign him i win basically ;-)
