I don't think he is saying that. I think he's saying that he had been given information that Vidal was a target and the information now being given is that we're not after him. It sounded to me that he was covering his bases as much as anything, as the club seem to have done an about turn from what he was told was the case previously.

Spot on!

Jesus - the plot thickens AGAIN!!

Where in that video does he state we are still after him?

The way I understood it is that he's saying their position is that there's been no contact, no interest, etc. But then he starts talking about his sources and his track record. Mitten didn't report us having no contact/interest (as far as I'm aware anyway?) like all the other journos did. That's why I thought he's referring to different sources - Those from within United and those from outside.
Even listening back the way I understand him is that United sources are telling journos there has been no contact, but only because they have nothing to gain and everything to lose from doing otherwise.

Perhaps the muppetry has got to me too much though, and I'm just viewing this through rose-tinted glasses.

Obviously they aren't going to say he's leaving or wants to leave? They were always going to say that, we just have to meet their price and we'll get him. Wouldn't worry about it.

I've noticed that LvG's critics seem to be either a) as opinionated as he is; b) guns-for-hire pundits or mouthy self-publicists; or c) players who didn't meet LVG's standards. Even people I genuinely admire (like Cruyff, my football hero) come across as every bit as unreasonable & outspoken as LvG is reputed to be on occasion.

Indeed. I supoose firebrands always divide opinion. What matters though is his record above all else. It is a good sign I think that a lot of very well respected current (or recently retired) players from the Ajax and Barca sides speak highly of him and his coaching abilities.

I dunno, it sounded to me that though he remains dubious about the denials, the main reason for mentioning his sources was because of how scattered the whole thing has become. It was his way of saying "I still think it's right, but if it's not, I was giving the information honestly received from a reliable source". Which, in fairness, he doesn't have to do. He strikes me as an honest guy, so if he repeats something I'd bet on it at least being told to him by a reasonable source, even if it wasn't that likely, or was told to him for a particular reason.

He's hardly said he won't be sold this Summer. If we meet the valuation we have a great chance. Until Vidal says he is staying at Juve I'm believing nothing. So much BS from every media source, changing daily. It sounds more likely not unlikely at this moment IMO

I think both of your interpretations are correct.

He was told that it's Arturon by one of his sources last earlier this week but the official noises coming out of United more recently (to him as well as journos at the Daily Mail, Graunidad etc.) are that it's Arturoff.

As you say, he's mentioning his sources/track record of getting stuff right to defend himself against comments from idiots who will slag him off for saying one thing one week, then the complete opposite the next. It certainly seems as though what he said the other day was genuine "ITK" stuff but the more recent updates are coming through more official and widespread channels (which makes me think that they're all part of the negotiating strategy with Juve)

Jamie Jackson now retweeting people who questioned him saying no talks have occurred. Absolute pillock.

Even if Vidal ends up staying at Juve, it doesn't necessarily mean that Mitten was wrong when he said that there have been negotiations with him. Won't stop the idiots saying he's a liar though.

It's probably been said in various forms above, but to reiterate concisely:

At a time of change - some would argue crisis - at Juventus, why would they rub salt in the wounds of their fans and offer encouragement to United's? Regardless of the potential transfer's status or progress, we were never going to hear anything positive from that press conference, from a red point of view. It's a basic, fundamental face saving or maintaining exercise from the Italians.

Andy Mitten's a very sound, honest guy, and I have had contact with him personally in the past over UWS and a couple of other club issues. I'm not party to anything he knows but I'm certain anything he says is in good faith and was accurate at the time he was given any information.

Yeah, but what do people want? They want him to be an up-to-the-minute ITK and also to call it like it is every single time. Those two don't go together. Simple as. It's as plain as fecking day this is what he's been told. He, in order to keep getting told these things, has to report it as such. So if United leak this to him and he writes up the article, but two minutes later is on Twitter saying "Had that DickEd Woodward on the phone earlier, trying to convince me they're not in for Vidal. Nice try, Ed, you daft little midget" then it's not exactly likely he'll be told things in future, is it?

So why do you think Mitten knows nothing now because of what they've said? You're contradicting yourself.
I felt though in that video he was sort of covering himself if the deal doesn't happen by bringing up his rack record as a way of defending himself if things go wrong.
