Maybe Strootman a strong possibility come January if not Vidal, although I think Vidal is a good player and would improve us as most would right now but best in world I'm not so sure on what little I have seen so far (about 10 games). Is he really that good as I'd take Schweinsteiger or Modric or Pogba over him.
I think Strootman would more likely be next summer to replace Carrick. But the question is, can we wait until January or summer to further strengthen our midfield? I'd say no because everyone around us has improved theirs already and will continue too.

There might be a lot of departures too from our CM, i.e Cleverley, Fellaini & Anderson which weakens our midfield. I don't think LVG will want to stop here in improving our CM, he wants players he can trust and I don't think form wise he can hold much hope in the players I've mentioned.

Agree but I'd rather he wait till he gets players he wants ie Strootman (if that is what he wants) and if he sells Anderson Cleverley then someone like a Dembele (good player not quite top yet or a Henderson type) to play and possibly improve until we get our top targets.

Dembele is as average as our lot. Not to mention Levy will put a ridiculous price on him.

I read somewhere this morning that he turned us down because he wants Champions League football. I'm not buying it to be honest, papers keep saying this when a player fancies a move elsewhere.

It's the lazy excuse or just partial trolling in case of John Cross etc..

I dont think calling this summer a massive success is a good thing. I think we absolutely need one cb and one midfielder more(both world class or close top it). A massive success would be landing Vidal,di maria and hummels. Only getting one of them would be a decent summer.

Yeah thats right - back to the top of the tree we go. And everyone will be happy with all the record revenues we bring in (€420m at the end of this financial year) - yet we spend feck all on the team by comparison. How the hell can folk be truly happy with that? :wenger:

Far too many fans seem content on just challenging for 4th spot, because we finished 7th last season. Where's the ambition?!

We sure as hell wont be challenging for the title with just 3 additions & even 4th spot is gonna be really tough to get. Not forgetting we've lost Rio, Vida, Giggsy & Evra looks like he's goin too (they needed replacing atleast 2 years ago anyway) & a shitload of deadwood that are more suited to a mid-table Prem club or less..

There's no way the club will only buy 3 players this window - they're not stupid. Many sponsors will walk if we dont atleast get Champions League football next season - 2 seasons in a row without it would be disastrous for a club of our resources.

Ed & LvG have both said that this season is vital for the clubs future finances & status as competitors, while Ed alone said we'd be spending "unprecedented levels" this window too..

Sorry for the rant, just does my head in when i hear folk say they'd be happy with what we have + maybe one more. Its completely delusional to think thats enough, & if you recall our last 4 league matches with Giggsy in charge - apart from scoring a number of goals against Norwich in his 1st game, we were piss-poor in those games - just like we were all season..

Nothing on their website or twitter.

This is their cover today. Marca also doing a big piece on Rodriguez.

I imagine they mention it somewhere in between the article if they do. Might be taken out of context quite possibly by these accounts though. Let's see will be clarified.

I'm sorry but if we bought one more of those players we're looking at about £120 million being spent this summer with only a meagre amount brought back in to bring revenues up. That is not a lack of investment and it will do a hell of a lot.

We'd almost be replacing a third of our outfield players with significan upgrades as well as hopefully upgrading the manager. I think complaining after that summer would be ridiculous.

He's clearly going to choose psg. John cross seemed pretty adamant in his article last night, so they must be starting to leak things.

John Cross was just trolling with the easy no CL line. He knows SFA outside of Arsenal usually.

feck knows why Mendes or Di Maria would leak to John Cross in England of all people.

Come on Di Maria you'd be on plenty of money at United and won't be playing in boring league.

I love it! It keeps on happening, stuff from bullshit English sources gets picked up abroad, and then suddenly is seen as being from a reliable source just because it's 'foreign'.
So @Adnan was ultimately putting all his trust in the Metro. Can't get more muppet than that.

Dont mention "that summer". That term is forever ingrained in our memories.. :(

We dont need to sell to buy like other clubs have to though Twig. The club is in a seriously wealthy state (even with the interest payments) & new revenues are pouring in - like the increased Sky deal, the new Adidas shirt deal & not to mention new partners from all round the world, on an almost monthly basis.

We need rid of as much deadwood as we can, to get them off the payroll & freshen up the squad - its gone stale to put it politely. Its sickening the amounts footballers earn, but even more so with footballers who contribute nothing to a club & are only concerned with running down their contracts & takin home the massive wages to Easy Street.

We all agree that CM has been woefully neglected in terms of investment. Losing Pogba wasnt envisaged by the club & it was hoped Morrison would settle down, but that perceived CM-pairing boat has sailed now & we need a massive boost in that area. Herrera is a great start, but aside from a hopefully back-in-form Carrick & Fletch as back-up - thats pretty much our CM for this season, as i dont rate Cleverely & Fellaini at all..

2 quality CM's at present isnt good enough if we want to compete for the title. 2 more would be sweet - Vidal & Strootman would be wicked. The Stroot will be back from injury (allegedly) in Oct/Nov - maybe earlier too, so why wait til Jan when there's no chance Roma would sell him half-way through the season.

As mad as this sounds, i feel this is our best chance of getting him. He could return & be even more shit-hot than he was before by the end of the season & lots of clubs will be after him then. You cant just rely on the LvG effect / draw. Players choose the lifestyle as much as they choose the club.

We need atleast one top-class CB, but 2 would be ideal if we were to play 3 CB's at the back in a 5-3-2 formation or something similar. We need a back-up LB also(if Evra goes) & maybe back-up at RB if Janko or Varela are deemed not up to it yet this season..

We're not very shit-hot in the winger department either - Di Maria would be so sweet for us though...

United should just let me do the transfers - "How much do you want for him?"..."Sorted!" :)

That radio stations were the first to report Herrera stuff when no-one in English media even reported our interest.

5 at back, Carrick holding, Herrera and Vidal box-to-box, Mata and Di Maria behind RvP, with Rooney on the bench. Somebody stop us. #MUFC

Does anyone really think we will be playing five at the back? I mean LVG only changed the formation because of the huge void in the team left by Strootman getting injured, surely he will work with a different formation because he has completely different squad at United. Player for player United are much stronger than the Dutch squad and IF we get Vidal or someone similar I'm pretty sure he will play 442-4411-433, but may revert to 5 at the back for bigger more trickier games perhaps.

Most summers that would be a very good window I agree....not enough this one though. Two years ago Fergie won the premiership with arguably his worst title winning squad, the football was pretty poor I think would be the general consensus.
Last season showed how well he did as Moyes couldnt even get a top four spot. In those two years we have added Zaha (as of yet, a failure) Felliani (an expensive mistake) and Mata (a very good player in the only position we were well stocked, a luxury).
So I would argue we havent actually added anything that was needed since Fergie worked his magic one last time, yet since Moyes failed we have actually lost virtually our entire first choice back four of a side that finished 7th, and Giggs.
LVG is without doubt a far far better manager than Moyes but when he comes into training for the first time, as of yet he has a squad with two quality additions, yet four players of massive experience gone. One more addition to that squad doesnt represent success to me. Many pundits before this summer have said we need maybe 8 players to be signed to turn around our squad. You would be happy with three, which is less than we have lost though?
I go along with what a lot of people are saying, another central midfielder, a centre back and a wide player added to the first team really needs to be purchased, all of top quality to be in the first eleven, and the cost probably would be £150m-200m...but at the same time LVG should also be looking to recoup up to £50m from sales

Yep. Agree with that man & the more options we have the better!

4-3-3 is his favourite formation & my guess is that he'd play Carrick as the holder, with Vidal (if he comes) & Herrera running amuck. Then have Di Maria (if he comes), Mata / Rooney & RVP / Rooney..

Well it's one way to address the situation of fitting Mata, Rooney and RVP in and keep everyone where they're most effective. 532 doesn't have to be overly defensive either, it just allows the fullbacks to really push up without the threat of being caught out as easily. I think if we did sign someone like Vidal or someone relatively near his level then with Herrera and for me in most games Carrick as the third defender it could work well. Only issue is, in Mata, RVP and Rooney there's no real pace there.

The problem with a 442 etc with our current players is that you either have players in positions they don't want to be, i.e. Mata/Rooney out wide or we have to rely on players who have considerably under-performed for a sustained period in Valencia, Young and Nani. Where as if we only have the funds for say one more big player than if its Vidal a 532 allows us to utilise our best players in their best positions. Either that or a diamond.

I assumed the "5 at the back" comment included De Gea, otherwise that'd be a 12 man team which would definitely be an advantage.
