I can't remember any quotes/interview from Evra after he extended his contract... You know the usual I am happy here, biggest club etc. which makes me think that he knew there is a possibility that he will still leave. Or have I missed something.?

Doesn't say what the knockdown fee is but would anyone consider this? English, used to be really good, still quite young, and we need a backup right-back.
He is City through and through to be honest, would never join United.

The Cuardado links are out of the blue, he's played well in the World Cup but that price tag is unlikely to be met.

It's all complete tosh (Evra to Juve). We sell Evra and we have no backup left back for Luke. LVG ain't stupid he wouldn't so such a thing.

I like Richards. We've been linked with him before too.
Anything under 7m id have him as Rafael backup

Injuries have stopped him from being England's best right back. If not for them I'm confident he'd of been quite a distance ahead of the likes of Johnson and co.

He needs a move and to a club where he's the first choice right back, which he wouldn't get here (not that I'd ever expect we'd be in for him anyway). Get him playing week in week out and hopefully he can finally fulfill the big potential he had.

Not sure but he's come through the City ranks (one of very few) so I doubt he would come to United.

He seems to be quite pissed off at the City hierarchy so I don't think he can be classed as City through and through.

Of course, we could well be interested and have made a bid etc but the general consensus in the media is that he himself fancies a move to Arsenal.

Maybe he does. It could also be rubbish. You'd think he'd fancy a move (subject to the obvious considerations) to the highest payers and given he's just had a great World Cup, would be keen to keep his options open.

He's a bit injury prone.

Ryan Gauld to Sporting is one of the most unexpected transfers so far. £3m with a £48m release clause. Could make a tidy profit off him.

Mental!

No we have enough injury prone defenders. Don't need one who's out more often than ours already are.

I'll never understand why players agree to such ludicrous buyout clauses that will hinder their chances at a big move.

Tottenham are locked in talks with Swansea over the potential transfer of Ben Davies, according to Sky sources. The 21-year-old left-back, who thrived for the Swans last season, has become one of new manager Mauricio Pochettino's top transfer targets this summer.

To be fair, he's going from Dundee United to Sporting Lisbon, he's 18 and has always wanted to play abroad. Almost the perfect move for him.

He's pretty level headed and wants to develop his skills playing in a European league instead of England as he feels he isn't physically imposing enough. He's going to be a great player, methinks.

Further to the original tweet, only an idiot would consider his transfer unexpected. If you'd seen him play even once you'd have known he'd not be at Dundee again this season, too fecking good a player or that.

Aren't release clauses mandatory in Spain and Portugal? I'm sure Gauld's release clause doesn't mean anything as they'll surely sell him for less if a club comes in for him in a couple of years. As he's British, even if he turns out shite Sporting would still make a good profit out of him.

Oh I'm not questioning his talent or ambition, I just don't think signing a contract with a huge release clause is a good idea, especially since these clubs seem so unwilling to negotiate down these days.

He meant unexpected in the sense that it's come out of the blue. Not that it's a weird move.

In Spain they're mandatory. Not in Portugal but we tend to give them to most players anyway.

Hello, Tom. Still, not at all out of the blue if one knew anything about hte player. I'm a little surprised he went to the continent but he's way too good for the SPL.

He'll be worth more than that in no time.

No Emre Can announcement from #LFC today. Will be Thursday or Friday before paperwork on £10m deal is completed.
