Don't know how you can say that. Our midfield is in serious need of address. Need at least one more midfielder.

I think he's waiting for Strootman though, maybe we will sign someone like De Jong but I wouldn't expect a Vidal type of player to come in next week.

Not a fan of De Jong's mentality but his aggressive stance would shake this midfield also in a proper way.

I'd be happy with De Jong. He's just the midfielder we need right now. Someone who will sit in front of the defence and give them some muscle. But he does tend to go overboard which is a risk with players like him.

Mirror says we want Nigel De Jong. Would be decent stop-gap until Strootman.

Him and Rojo would add a bit of aggression and dare I say, nastiness to a side that is too 'nice' to play against at present.

De Jong splits opinion on here, but I think he'd be a decent signing.

I'd like De Jong here. Least we would have someone protecting the back four.

De Jong would add a great deal of bite to our midfield. With him patrolling in front of defense, it'd free up Herrera to be more flexible in playing further up and joining the attack. He is the kind of low cost high impact signings that ultimately wins league titles.

Other teams don't fear us at home anymore... Having some bite and a bit of physical power won't hurt. Remember the Keano days against Arsenal!

We need players like him in our team....As in, players of his mentality.

I am sick to death of going to places like Anfield and bottling it

I agree and if there's some manager who can deal with player's character it's definitely Van Gaal.

It may be a useful addition indeed.

I'm not sure we'd spend so much money adding Vidal if we're spending on Di Maria. DeJong or Khadera would be cheaper additions.

To be honest if somebody said at the start of the summer that we would sign 4 players - a left back, central midfielder, centre back and a winger, I would be delighted (as long as they were all pretty good players). All positions which were in need of strengthening and we've (looks like it) improved them all. Of course we still lack a bit of depth in midfield but I think once Carrick is back we'll be fine there too.

If we sign di maria then that will just be such an amazing deal for us. We have plenty of quality in the attack but none of them can run with the ball and dribble past players or has pace to go with the quality.

Hopefully the Di Maria deal actually happens now! Blind seems odd to me since we surely could have bought him weeks ago. I doubt LvG goes for De Jong, he's repeated over and over he buys long term.

That's my thinking, and I'd be ok with it. I don't see us spunking out another £40m+ huge deal. I'd love Khedira here too and maybe De Jong as well, we are so desperate in CM I would take 2 if possible.

Can't see us going for De Jong after reading the Neville/LVG interview, it could be seen as a bit short term, I would not mind it but something out of leftfield is more likely imo. Maybe there was something in the rumours about that brazilian young fella, Interesting week ahead now by the looks of things.

We've paid on the cheap for years and got away with it, now we need quality. For 10-20m more I would rather get somebody absolutely quality.

Indeed, we have lost some bite especially in midfield (we were bullied last season) Although Herrera seems to add some, and Vidal would obv be the better option.
However De Jong would be a very good option

Yes, this certainly might be true.

I just think as a one-off and for a relatively small fee (he's in the last year of his contract at Milan) van Gaal may quite like this deal. Having someone who he completely trusts in there might be a good move. He'd also allow Herrera to have a bit of stability alongside him, which may help him settle in.

Well - if Woodward can wrap up 3 players in 2 weeks - he is forgiven. Esp if one of them is di Maria

Appointing a Director of Football would be brilliant for the club, let Woodward focus on what he's good at and get a real football man in.

Good news, a DoF would help us out massively in terms of getting these deals ironed out, just as long as we hire someone who's experienced and won't haggle over a couple of million, someone who will help us sign players with ease like Chelsea or City.

Don't disagree with you football wise and the thing about LVG is that no matter what he says one day if he decides something diffrent the next he has the balls to change his mind and not give a shite how it looks.

If we appoint one i feel fairly certain that LvG will have some say in who it'll be, and that's be a huge bonus since he (probably) knows a lot of very good, experienced people who could take up the job.

Good idea but who would it be ? With a volatile character like LvG it should be carefully thought out.

Why would we bother? LvG mentioned Di Maria as one of the best wingers out there, in the same sentence as Ronaldo .. Surely Douglas Costa shouldn't be considered as an alternative if you're close to closing a deal w/ Di Maria?

That would be brilliant. A battling CM in Nigel De Jong, a Director of Football who can focus on transfers and Ed Woodward would be able to focus on sponsorship deal etc which he is really good at.

I assume this was when PSG were favourites. That is my only assumption.
