So we immediately deny this, but have barely denied the links to Vidal all summer?

When Rojo is confirmed as the last signing, we'll probably issue an email statement out like last year.
Something like

"We're very happy with out transfer dealings this summer. We brought in two players with huge potential in Herrera and Shaw who will benefit us for untold years. Also we have complimented these signings with Rojo, again, a highly rated young defender who had a mad skills world cup.
We were never at any time in for Sanchez, Vidal, Fabregas, Hummels, Vermaelen, Di Maria, Reus, Muller, Schweinsteiger. We can however guarantee we could get any player in the world if the deal suited us."

I look forward to the day Fredy Guarin retires....

Same as Gaitan and Huntelaar.

It's funny, despite being linked strongly with Huntelaar for the past X years, the one season when there's actually a link (Van Gaal) we're barely linked with him.

imo if reus and muller really said those things about an offer from us while they re still under contract with their respective clubs, it means that neither of them is interested in joining us.

Muller never mentioned United by name and the Reus info has come from the A.Madrid president. Why we've commented on them is another thing entirely.

Somewhat related, does anyone know what United player/staff pissed on Jamie Jackson's chips in the past? The man assigned by the Guardian to cover United has the tone and focus of a serious ABU.

Why are people now so certain that we won't be buying a midfielder? Which tweet led to the comments like the one above?

Because it's something we've got used to the last 5 years. The hole is fecking gaping...we should have strengthened while in a position of strength.

PR I'm sure. We don't want to look like we couldn't convince world class players to join, especially if we were throwing crazy money at them. And of course, anyone we're going after now will look like 2nd choice options

Why will their ownership model become clear after 11 to 12 years of them actually owning the club?

We had some great success since they took ownership due to having world class players and a world class manager. However since 2009 despite 2 League titles the squad has been declining each year. We have now ended up in this situation which needs rectifying with a lot of expenditure - this should be fine though as the sponsorship growth has continued and Eddy said watch this space!
I'm not a fan of the Glazers but I'm not blaming them for the state we are in squad wise, this is the cumulative effect of many things so unfair to lay blame on just them. However they need to act in a way that makes sure the CEO they appointed fulfills his duties with regards to playing staff. If that means we pay over the odds so be it. One more season without champions league could prove alarming for all our sponsors and we will find it even more difficult next summer to attract players.
I believe it is pivotal to their 'ownership model' continuing to make them loads of money that they need to be investing heavily on the world class talent that is available right now. The Premier league has never been so competitive. We have a worse team now then we did when we won it in 2013. The other teams have become a lot stronger. LvG says he doesn't have a world class winger like Di Maria at his disposal. Ed says we can spend 60, 70, 80m on a player if needs be. Di Maria is available for less than 60m. So what next?

I agree, but I think the problem the last three seasons or so is simply we have missed out on certain targets and not spent wisely at all in the players we have purchased:
Mata
Fellaini
Buttner
Zaha
Kagawa
Young

Thats £120m odd just there in poor or luxury signings for positions that were not so urgently needed to be strengthened. It remains to be seen obviously but I think in Herrera and Shaw we have spent well, in Rojo I have no idea as only see him in the world cup out of his favoured position and I thought he was ok, as you say though we definately need to spend more, two more players and quality ones needed, names or not

Call it frustration...this should have been sorted as a fecking top priority...for the last 4 or 5 years.

We should have been on this straight away...instead we have gone into the first game of the season, and now into the second with a player that hasn't played any significant football in the last 2 to 3 years. It's utterly mental. We're supposed to be one of the top sides in the world. We act like complete fecking amatuers.

Many writers have said the United officials they've spoken to have denied any interest in Vidal
We've hardly been categorical regarding him but it seems like we've made it absolutely clear with the other two.

We denied it because rejection lowers the value of the 'brand', about which we're hypersensitive.
Interesting take. Certainly feasible.
