Silly Top and his rational, evidence based ways. Why should it matter if someone is 'reliable' or not?

Transfer news junkies don't need the pure stuff to get high. All they need is to suspend disbelief for just enough time to allow a rumour to work its way through their system and provide them with a fix for at least the next ten minutes or so.

Then it's back to the hunt for the next short term fix. It's good shit. And it's free at the point of service.

I dream of a world where The Twitter Speculation Thread only consists of Journos or ITK-tards who have showed themselves to be reliable at least once.

For example, this footballagent should now be banned from being quoted again. As should everyone with "Transfer_" in their name.

This is the problem with lumping all news that comes from twitter together. It's the easiest way of dealing with it, but it's certainly not the most useful way. The way twitter speculation is dealt with at the moment means this thread is more suitable for the general rather than any of the football forums.

If we treated every other medium the same way we'd have to hold SSN phone in callers and emailers in the same regard as the actual newsreaders. Caughtoffside.com would have as much authority as manutd.com just because they're both websites on the internet.

Twitter is not one person, it's not a news organisation, yet so many people seem to refer to it as if it was. News can be broken to you by so many methods: television, newspapers, magazines, websites, twitter to name just a few. The thing is, twitter is generally faster than all the rest, so it seems ridiculous to discount everything on twitter just because it's open to the public, when in reality the people on it who have earned authority can be very useful sources of information.

The purpose was to create the thread for the exact purpose you have said, shame this thread has been ruined now.

what do you guys expect when Twitter is involved?

"twitter speculation"

There are various degrees of Twitter Speculation, Geebs. Some of the tards being quoted in here have long since been outed as WUMs where as we do get some more reliable twitter folks which makes some of us come back to the thread despite having to wade through all the rubbish Twitter-stuff which is far more suited for the General.

If you're all so desperate for some of this obviously made up rubbish just say. I can write loads for you. Much better stuff than these examples too.

Nail on the head. It never ceases to amaze me how stubborn people are about Twitter - those who protest the most about how crap it is are the same who then go on it, make up a rumour and then say 'see, anyone can say anything blah blah blah'. Anyone can take a shit on their dinner but it doesn't mean the chef is to blame.

To put that another way, Twitter is completely what you make of it - if you make it a shitty, fictional gossip column then that's your own fault, it doesnt have to be like that. It really does baffle me why people slate it just because some/lots of idiots use it. Idiots use everything!

Yes that's true, but unfortunately we don't seem to be posting the useful sources of information.

I think they do get posted, it's just the fact that on the caf they're forced to be associated with FootballTransferAgent38973's latest update on Messi's transfer to Hull which causes them to be discounted.

It doesn't help when members of this forum think it's incredibly witty to set up twitter accounts for the purpose of posting shit.

Can't be arsed staying up for that. Gervinho, perhaps?

I see what you did there.

No one announces anything in the middle of the night.
