Things change I guess. One minute, it might look totally Donkey Kong, then Barca start trying to plead with him, offering new contracts and the like, and the situation shifts. I think through all this, Hunter has been pretty good. He said from the start that "if nothing changes" then he's a United player. Obviously Barca aren't going to just stand still. Looks like they want to cover every base before conceding that he's (HOPEFULLY) off.

Agree to disagree. I'm obviously not saying he's as good at it as Ronaldinho - no-one is. But I think there's a resemblance. Obviously Ronnie was a winger, so for him it was a case of beating defenders along the touchline, whereas Thiago does the drive past a few midfielders before feeding the ball to a forward.

Sure thang, mate. I agree with the gist of your original point anyway.

They should scrap twitter and bring back ceefax.

Had a devil of a time trying to explain the concept to Americans. Seems they didn't have it out here. Page 302 .

But full blown caps and saying sick  don't get me wrong, I use the word myself but seeing it on a forum doesn't feel right.

It was inevitable Barcelona were not going to give up easily.

Seeing there's been a silence from the player regarding his future at Barca, I reckon there's still a good possibility he will move.

The biggest proof that we are in for him is that all parties have maintained silence about this, which is just the way we do our transfers. If it were any other club, then someone involved with either club or the player, would have released a statement by now.

Giggsy said he's a big talent. Didnt mention anything about the transfer though. We've always handled our transfers admirably, something I respect a lot.

While I know its true, the silence is telling in these situations, it's a bit of a funny way of looking at it.

"United are in for Wilshere"

"Really? I've not heard the club say anything about Wishere"

*taps nose* "Exactly"

But the media are not saying that we are about to sign Wilshere. Everybody is saying that we are close to signing Thiago, have been for a few days. If this was not a United transfer, surely we would have heard something from someone connected to either party by now.

This 'silence' business sounds like a straw clutching myth tbh, although I do expect Thiago to join. That said, we discuss targets and confirm/deny rumours often enough.

Why? We're not the only club who chooses to carry out their business silently.

What else can happen at this stage though? We've put our deal on the table it seems, and Barca want him to stay but can neither improve his contract or promise him minutes. Thiago himself is on holiday. I'm sure his dad and his agent are in contact with him, but surely Thiago himself will need to be the one who signs and agrees to either United's or Barca's terms?

Thiago Update (TuttoMercato): Guardiola wants to bring Thiago to Bayern Munich, Mazinho is expecting a bid for his son.

Guardiola promised to Barcelona he wasn't going to bid for any players that didn't want to leave. Thiago wants to leave.

feck it, let's sign Schweinsteger. Let Bayern have those two wonderful Bavarian names - Thiago and Martinez - in their midfield. I'm sure Sammer will be thrilled with that...

It comes back to the fact that Thiago wants to actually play, certainly not guaranteed at Bayern unless Guardiola really wants to feck with a winning midfield.

Didn't he say himself that no big changes are needed? Ousting one of Schwein or Martinez of the team for Thiago is a big change. So is putting him in the front 3 behind the striker, considering the talent they have there, and also the arrival of Gotze as well. I think he'd be in a worse situation for playing time at Bayern than he already is at Barca. I think he'd eventually get into that team, as I think he would at Barca, but it seems to be well documented that it is the immediate future which is Thiago's biggest concern.
