Tuanzebe Loan watch

The same poster finds ways to mention Smalling in every thread relating to other defenders performances or mistakes. I would understand it if you are a fanboy of a world class player, but the Smalling obsession goes too far. He is nowhere near that good to be derailing threads on a constant basis and push your personal agenda.

It was me that probably went on for too long about Smalling. I didn't bring him up though, just the fact that Tuanzabe had to play at RB.

Jonny Evans would be a good shout. Got into the team in 08, and had he not been around we'd have had Pique in the 1st team as well
Off topic, but I think Pique was very average for us, Evans looked more promising early on in their careers. One of the main reason why I think Sir Alex let go of Pique was Evans, besides his desire to go back home that is.

Tuanzebe wasn't even in the match squad last night. Anyone know why?

He’s been injured recently hasn’t he? Seems to be a concern.

He'd be as well as doing another year at Villa.

Whilst I would like to see him given a chance at United, we have Bailly, Smalling, Jones, Rojo, Lindelof and TFM who will return in the summer who can all play CB. I don't see any of the above being sold either.

Villa are in with a shot at promotion since they’re in the playoffs, which would be good for him if he stays.

He defintely needs another full season out on loan, ideally somewhere they will play him as CB. He's young, it's much better to get competitive match experience than sitting on our bench.

I can see him at RB. He was great against Sanchez that one time. Then he could move into the centre later on in his career a la Ramos.

I think he's probably the best young talent who can make it into the first team squad next season, alongside Andreas Pereira.

Is he still injured? Any chance he'll get to play today?

edit: he doesn't feature today

Still injured.

Waste of a loan tbh. Who thought it was smart to send him on loan to a club with arguably the best CB pairing in the league? He needs another loan next season to a club who will actually play him at CB.

Andreas Pereira is probably the closest thing weve had to a successful loan... and he'll probably be sold permanently. They never seem to go well for us.

We've had a bunch of successful loans too. Players ultimately not making it to the highest level doesn't mean they didn't have successful loans.

TFM at Palace has been pretty successful and he's got some great experience.
Dean Henderson's loans have all been successful.
Demi's loan to Hearts was going great until his injury.
Sam Johnstone of course has had great loans too.
Ben Pearson had great loans at Barnsley.
Nick Powell had a good loan to Wigan.
Tom Lawrence had good loans to Carlisle and Yeovil.
Lingard had some success on his loans.
Michael Keane had successful loans.
Cleverley had good loans at Watford and Wigan.
Welbeck's loans were pretty good too.

Of those, only Lingard actually plays for us. So not that successful.

Loans don't magically turn you into a top class player. But they do educate you and help to bring out your potential.

In that respect, the loan deals were successful.

Define successful? Only one of these players actually made it at utd , loans are to give promising players some much needed 1st team games and to be come back pushing for a start. Most of these weren’t good enough.

Think some are being a bit hasty, he only joined them in January when they'd already formed a good CB partnership. They also have El Mohammady who Bruce trusts to do a job at RB. Hopefully he can stay at Villa for the entire of next season and claim a spot, he'll have settled there now so would be worth keeping him there.

My concerns with Axel is his injuries, he hasn't exactly had a injury-free season past few season when he was expected to make the step up. There is a quality player there, hopefully he will overcome those issues and have a maybe another successful loan. In fact if Villa goes up, he would have a good chance to extend there and have some gametime as a RB too. Brucey would use him I am sure

Are you incapable of reading my first line?

As @Dante also says a loan doesn't magically turn a player into a top player. Players ultimately not being good enough to play for a top 4 club has no bearing on if they were successful during their loan and it isn't the loans fault they weren't good enough. In the end, they wouldn't have been good enough if they didn't go out on loan either. That would be a ridiculous criteria to judge loans being successful or not. If they player got regular playing time, improved, and learnt valuable senior football experience then it is a successful loan.

Once again, how is making it at United relevant to a specific loan being successful or not? It isn't. Judging the successful of a loan on a players United career and not on the actual loan is ridiculous. 99% of youth players aren't going to make it here, loan or not. That doesn't mean their loans are successful and have developed and improved them as players.

Better to play as right back than to not play at all. Sergio Ramos used to play right back and turned out to be a decent centre back...

Obviously i am not comparing Tuanzebe to Ramos but play time is the most important thing at his age.

True, but still hope that he will start at CB eventually. Could be a good squad option for us next season if he gets plenty of playing time.

I think i would prefered him to play rb for us yesterday instead of Darmian playing there... but i agree. Hopefully Tuanzebe could take Jones/Rojo his squad spot next season.

Darmian will probably be sold anyway, we have Valencia and Dalot there, need to get him some time at CB to be a serious option for us next season. He has all the tools needed to be a very good CB.

Can someone sum up his performance today ?
If anyone has seen the match ...
Will be grateful.
