Tuanzebe Loan watch

Can't find a river anywhere.. How did they concede the second goal? Seems he wasn't too much at fault for the Sessegnon goal at least!
Wasn't able to watch the game myself.

I'm glad this loan move has given Tuanzebe the opportunity to test himself in the air. He was called into action a total of 9 times, winning 8 of those. Winning 89% of his aerial duels sounds promising considering Fulham had Mitrovic in the starting berth.

He did o.k today for his first start.

I'm going on Tuesday so will be able to give a more detalied analysis of his performance.

Twenty year old RB Axel Tuanzebe earning MOTM at Aston Villa and 21 year old LB Demetri Mitchell earning 3 MOTM at Hearts. It would be nice not having to spend 100m pounds in transfer fees filling those positions.

Pretty much all our match going fans today thought he was the best thing about the performance.

Very good to hear, hope he can continue to do well when he plays. Heard you have a good defensive unit, would be very pleased if he could sneak into that before the season is done!

Think he'll play RB on Tuesday as our regular player there El-Mohamady injured himself yesterday so doubt he'll be available.

Some highlights against Fulham.

Bruce:
"Both Axel and Ryan (Sessegnon) are talented young players. It was a terrific battle. I’m delighted for Axel. He tired badly because he need games.
But you can see his talent because he was excellent for us today on his full debut.” Asked his best position in the future, Bruce said, “Maybe centre-back

Came off at 88 mins when the game was at 1-1.
Didn't see the full game but the LW for North End scored an overhead kick to make it 1-0 (it was at a corner), I'm not sure if Tuanzebe was meant to be marking him but if so that'd be twice in two games the LW has scored.

He's not a right back so not surprised.

He's a CB.

He actually conceded the corner that led to the goal.

Decent again last night, nothing outstanding but equally nothing terrible. Comfortable on the ball, tried to get forward but tbh we didn't play well, PNE were much better.

A few would like to see him get a chance in midfield given our injury problems. Could he play right midfield or is that a bit too optimistic?

He is a CB for me, i dont see him at RB or DM if we want to get the best out of him. Mensah similar for me, although better at RB than Tuanzebe.

I agree. He is made to be a CB. But he is unlikely to get games there at Villa while Chester and Terry are fit so games in other positions are welcome.

Villa fans on that forum link were saying that Terry was looking knackered.

@FootballHQ what's Terry's fitness like? Can he play 2 games a week? If he did need to be rested, could you see a CB partnership of Chester and Tuanzebe being used?

John Terry missed two months with an injury but apart from that he's played all the Saturday-Tuesday games down here. Surprised me as I didn't think he'd be capable of that but he looks fine.

Given where we are in the season now we won't be changing our CB partnership except for injury/suspension.

Yep did his hamstring a few weeks ago.

We have lots of old players in our squad and some of them are creaking so he'll be starting when he returns I reckon.

Starts today for Villa against Hull. Another of our young CBs that has been shifted out to RB though

Glad to hear he is back from injury and getting a game. But this loan made very little sense to me. It seems almost like Villa was picked solely because John Terry is there. Sure it is great to train with someone like Terry but the whole point of going on loan is to play games so why on Earth has he gone to the club with probably the best CB pairing in the league? It makes no sense. He isn't a RB nor a DM/CM. He is a CB and should be playing at the CB. He'll have already been getting top level training here, he doesn't need to go away to train with Bruce and Terry despite how great of CBs they were. He needs to actually be playing games at CB.

He needs to be playing games full stop. Contrary to popular belief it never did Jones any harm over the long term, what did that was the constant injuries. With a defender as young as Tuanzebe, he just needs games no matter where they come. He wasn't getting them here but he's getting a few somewhere where there is stiff competition for places, it's hardly a disaster.

He could very well make a career as a midfielder. Too early to say where he’s going to end up playing. He’s getting valuable experience, regardless of the position.

Getting criticised a lot on our forums.

Personally would rest Terry for a few games as he's struggled a bit last month and give him a run at CB. That's his best position I assume?

I guess he will struggle a bit anywhere for a couple of games given the lack of game time he has this season.

Spot on, don't understand why our fans always want players to have an easy ride out on loan, it's not good for their development. If Villa get promotion I hope he goes back there.

Smalling also played there a lot and other defenders in the past, the important thing he gets the gametime and experience the tempo of the game, playing as a RB will hlp him to develop some parts of his game too. I htink one of the reasons why Smalling is good covering for fullbacks is he played as one for some games, went 1v1 against some palyers

I've made that exact point about Jones on here plenty of times so I know full well.

Difference is Jones was playing there in our setup while still training with us and getting all those other benefits and experiences of being in our first team. Not some Championship team.

He needs to be playing full game so but it's hard to say if he has really been even getting that.

His initial foray into first team football doesn't really need the added pressure of playing out of position and having your fans think you're shit. Villa fans are all over his back.

There isn't stiff competition though as there is 0% chance of him being a regular CB there. He should be at a club he actually has a chance of being competitive to earn a spot.

This loan should have been completely about getting gametime at CB even if it was at a weaker side. The experience he'd earn there would get him the more competitive loan next season.

I don't see him being anywhere close to a midfielder at a top level. He looked out of his depth when he has played there and it just shows the complete difference of being a ball playing CB and being a midfielders.
