Trump/Russia/SDNY investigation

Will that Asswohl see jail time?

There’s a good chance. The hilarity of it all has kinda masked over just how serious the situation is for him and Burkman.

The case has been referred to the FBI by Mueller and has team. They’ve conspired to frame the former head of the FBI for sexual assault. There’s no chance they will laugh it off and let them go.

Saw him on CNN last night I think? Is that how he normally is? With all the blinking licking of lips and generally weird mannerisms?

Excellent

Jacob Wohl appears a classic example of someone whose privilege has mistakenly led them to believe they're smart.

 For fecks sake.

That waiver will mean absolute squat if the Dems take over the House. In fact, it could even be used as evidence in the obstruction of justice charge.

Got to love when a moron hatches an elaborate scheme which immediately backfires spectacularly. In some way this story fits in so well with what has been going on the past 18 months in the US political scene, a complete parody of everything decent, moral and intelligent where you don't really know if you should laugh or just shake your head in disbelief over the fact that people can be so blatantly stupid.

and he named the company Surefire Intelligence.

That's... christ, which fringe episode did I wake up in this morning?

Regardless of the results of the midterms, this is going to be a huge week for the investigations. Public activities have been on hold for over 2 months now, considering the pace the investigation moved at previously, it’s very likely that there is going to be an avalanche of activity at the end of this week.

I agree with the Politico report that it looks like Trump was served a subpoena pre labour day, I’m predicting that will become a very public battle over the next few weeks.

The witness was given just 11 days to file briefs; the special counsel (presumably) just two weeks to respond; and reply papers one week later, on November 14 (for those paying attention, that’s eight days after the midterm elections). Oral arguments are set for December 14.

It does seem like a well researched article... So I guess a week after the elections we can expect this to start to dominate things

If the Dems win the house it will be framed as being politically motivated by trump... In fact even if they don't he will probably say they couldnt win the house so (mis) using the courts

It's gonna get nasty but I still see trump surviving and quite possibly even getting politically stronger through it as the GOP closes ranks

Wohl's dad is threatening William LeGate with lawsuits. William is suitably worried about it that he's put up the entire voicemail in a tweet.

I kinda hope they do try to sue some journalists and there's discovery that leads to the reveal of direct links to trump.

The GOP has already closed ranks. There are pretty much no more ranks to close. Trump is going to need more than the support of the diminishing GOP.
Politically to survive he probably just needs the republicans to hold the senate and for all the replublicans there to back him... Both pretty likely I think

Depends though. If Mueller brings out some serious proof, then you'd have to expect Trump's approval ratings to drop to the hardcore base, so around 30%. At those numbers, the GOP senators may well see little point in continuing to nail their asses to the Trump flag.

What constitutes "serious proof" probably depends on your take on trump to start with - I think unless both houses impeach him he will be able to brush anything else off as politically otivated... witch hunt... fake news... what about her emails... lock her up etc etc
i hope im wrong but I think hes gonna sail through this just fine

They don’t both impeach him. That’s not what impeachment means.

There's a chunk of people who don't follow politics closely but probably watch FOX news from time to time and who live in strong Republican districts who still buy into the 'its just a witch-hunt' stuff. I'm not talking about the real mouthbreathers, those are the 30% who will likely never move (Personally I think the absolute intractable number is probably around 25% like Nixon, but we'll see). If Mueller returns genuine proof of wrongdoing, then even FOX are going to be talking about it seriously (Hannity and the other couple of hardcore talking heads aside), and its going to be something Trump can't just wave away any more. Especially if the house vote to impeach.

If I'm wrong and Trump can keep the kind of numbers he has now even in the face of concrete evidence, then America is fecked anyway.

what was clintons approval numbers after he got impeached - Ive not checked the exact dates but around 60%... so I dunno if it will make that much difference - its just so politically divided to start with that I cant see many changing their pre existing opinions

If there is genuine, credible evidence of any kind of collusion with Russia, this will be a lot more like Nixon's impeachment than Clinton's. And Nixon had a 24% approval rating when he resigned, down from 67% barely a year and a half before.

I cant imagine Drumpf Jr getting indicted until the very end, as Mueller will know it would mean an immediate pardon or Trump attempting to fire him.

Yeah I can imagine him doing the family in one fell swoop if he can get Trump Sr on whatever charges. Wouldn't risk anything else.

Yeah and he will either say go feck yourselves OR release redacted or fake/incomplete returns instead.

They will be able to either subpoena them directly from the IRS records or at a minimum cross reference them to validate them. Any jiggerypokery will just focus attention.

You're up Mueller. While I think a Stone indictment would be far more critical given the damage that man has done to our democracy - if a statement needs to be made to the general population than it d be nice to Donnie Jr. or Jared get indicted, as most probably don't know who Stone even is.

This is where The SCOTUS come in. Think this administration will be refusing congressional requests and subpoenas, left, right and centre.
