Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

Pep is livid that he now has to try and win trophies with the shower of shit he's assembled for half a billion pounds. He only has a dozen attacking players. How can a manager be expected to work with such a threadbare squad?

The funny thing is that Pep has arguably the best squad, yet I don't feel he is favourite to win the league. I honestly think he is a manager who for the first time is managing a club not head and shoulders above the competition and even with the best squad, still can't win the title.
And to think a year or so ago, Pep was worshipped on this forum for being the footballing messiah.

When Pep got signed I lurked on the Bluemoon forum and he was not highly rated by their fans, at all. It was almost as if they were getting some average manager who'd never won a title before in his life and some even said that if this guy doesn't do well in his first year, he should be turfed out.

What's this about?
Few years ago, Everton wanted Cleverley from us who had one year left on his contract. They didn't want to pay us a reasonable fee.

We ended up being forced to loan him out to Villa with an option to buy. When Villa wanted to sign him, he refused and ran out his contract and promptly joined Everton the following Summer for a free. Same way Barkley has screwed them over.

Corriere Dello Sport saying Emre Can has agreed to join Juve on a free next summer.

The complaint from City will probably also include how due.to not signing Sanchez Guardiola will now not be able to show his managerial genius that is unquestionable.

Pathetic from City. Move on you twats.
What can the even hope to achieve by this as even if the had something signed from the player, Arsenal obviously haven't submitted any paperwork to the FA so it's not like they could force a deal through.

We can test How martial and Rahsford react and perform this season, If they come out great than great , but if not sanchez is there for free and we need to keep his track.

Desperation from Pep. So easy to hate his baldy ugly egg head.

Let's take a moment to laud Neil 'Full of shit' Custis' transfer deadline day tweets / exclusives.

Cout and dry

Thursday was one of the busiest days of the year for a football journalist, but spare a thought for poor Neil Custis. The man has such brilliant contacts at The Sun that he managed to break three transfer exclusives on deadline day.

‘Philippe Coutinho heading to Barcelona in stunning £138m deal from Liverpool with announcement set for 7pm,’ reads the headline to the first. It’s safe to say this one really hasn’t aged well.

But Custis was not finished there. ‘Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho ready to make last ditch appeal for club to grant him dream move to Barcelona,’ was his second exclusive. Said ‘last ditch appeal’? To e-mail in a transfer request, apparently. Because the first one he sent earlier in August might have been gone straight to the junk folder.

The weird thing about the second exclusive – that Coutinho would request a transfer – is that it was published after the first – that Coutinho’s transfer was done. Strong work.

Where there’s a Will

But yes, there was a third exclusive. Custis remembered that he does indeed mainly cover Manchester United, and that deadline day might well pass without the Old Trafford club being linked to any players. As the side which drives by far the most website traffic, that simply would not do.

‘Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho launches audacious bid to land Willian from Chelsea,’ reads the headline to the second. It’s safe to say this one really hasn’t aged well either.

‘Mourinho always said he had four targets this season and had completed the transfer of three with striker Romelu Lukaku, defender Victor Lindelof and defensive midfielder Matic.

‘He was still looking for a wide right man to play in a 3-4-3 as well as the 4-2-3-1 he usually employs.

‘Willian, 29, could also play as a wing back in a 3-5-2- although it would not be his preferred position.’

So Willian will join as a potential wing-back, a position he has never played in, in a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, systems which Manchester United very rarely use, if at all. And Chelsea would obviously sell him.

Three deadline day exclusives, three big misses.

I think the running joke about Pep 'the genius' is largely unfair on him and is very much taken out of context. When people often joke about what they perceive that genius to mean, it's usually in relation to his overall ability to win and succeed, regardless of club stature or circumstance.

The actual root of it is in reference to his insight, tactically as well as individually. Whether at Barcelona, Bayern, or Man City, there are numerous quotes from top professionals, all of whom have trained under the worlds elite at different clubs, whom have stated at various times how Guardiola taught them insights, which improved them, tactically and mentally, which they weren't learning prior. That's all. He's just a progressive, forward-thinking coach who does have some unique input. If this weren't true these quotes wouldn't exist. That they do is at least indicative of his level of footballing insight.

Again, the label genius, however exaggerated, isn't associated specifically with regards to success and points, it's in relation to his insight, corporately and individually. When players praised him for these insights, it wasn't to make a point about how many points the team was winning, but how much insight the player was learning.

That's true, but given what happened with Liverpool and Van Dijk, I'd doubt Liverpool will just let it slide if true.

It's nothing like the Van Dijk fiasco though. Van Dijk has 5 more years on his contract and Liverpool were trying to unsettle him in order to force the move. He even refused to train with his team-mates.

Can is just planning for the future as his contract expires next summer. Don't think there's anything wrong in verbally agreeing a move to another club as long as he keeps doing his job.

Well then he waits til the summer or signs for another club in January e.g. Bayern
What I love about this all is Arsenal were ready to sell to Bayern. It was the greedy midget wanting ridiculous wages that ruled that out. Loooong season ahead and the worst possible prep for a World Cup Chile may yet miss out on despite getting a 2 point and 3 goal handicap.

Well it's still illegal for a club to be in contact with a player who has more than 6 months left on his contract, without the permission of the club the player is currently playing in. Liverpool are still hoping for him to sign a new contract and Juve are potentially offering Can money to reject it. Obviously it's a thing that happens regularly.

Barkley hasn't screwed them over. There's no reason he should be forced to move to Chelsea of he doesn't want to.
Well they certainly dont view it that way.

They lost out on 35mil pounds, even in this age, thats a lot of money. He could possibly go on a free now. He is perfectly entitled to do that, but it does screw over Everton in that they are not compensated for his development.

I have no sympathy with clubs on this kind of thing. They have the player under contract and often hold on to them when they want to leave so this is the natural result of that. They've brought in a player (or players) who they prefer and that's their prerogative. Clubs are quick to try and move players on when they feel like it.

Exactly so.

Everton screwed themselves over by refusing to negotiate with the only club - Spurs - that Barkley wanted to go to. They tried to bounce Barkley into the Chelsea deal and it back-fired.

So now, instead of having the money they could have gotten from Levy, they'll end up with either less money (this January) or nothing or at all (next summer) ... and either way Barkley will likely end up at Spurs. And in the meantime they're still having to pay his wages, even tho' he won't be fit to play until December.

The word "screwed" suggests or implies wrongdoing on the partof Barkley when it's not his fault at all. Or anyone's fault for that matter. Same with Cleverley.

Fryers on the other hand....

I completely agree about the hypocrisy of football clubs and fans in general.

He is perfectly entitled to run down his contract. My point was that Everton will certainly feel aggrieved. Unless he signs a new deal like Gundogan did at Dortmund.

Still posses of about that. And the lack of action by any authorities.

If United had done that a smaller club (even Spurs for exsmple) everyone would have been up in arms.

With this new market, I think we can expect a lot of players running down their contracts. It will add an interesting dynamic to the market.
